“why do you always do this?” he looked back at her finally, this obviously displeased look in his eyes. “why do you always have to know what’s wrong with people? even if something was wrong with me and i told you, you can’t fix it.”

he rolled his eyes, ignoring the first part of her words and welcoming the shift towards a new conversation. “since it would keep you busy instead of sitting there and staring at me.”

elena furrowed her eyebrows at kaidan; who seemed to be beyond wasted. rolling her eyes at her boyfriend, ignoring the slight sting his words caused her, she glanced upwards. “what’s your problem?”
“NOTHING...” grabbing the bottle beside him he tipped it into the freshly emptied glass sat in front of him. showing pathetic emotions like sorrow was not on kaidan’s to do list for today, so he decided to get drunk instead. his current issues were not something he discussed with anyone and would not bring them up casually in any conversation------ not even with elena. “i have no problem. don't you have homework or something?.”

“--- are you pissed at me for something?” kaidan threw back what seemed to be his fifth glass of bourbon tonight so far; he was in no mood to be bothered but his girlfriend didn’t seem to get the memo. “i’ll care later.”
kaidan stayed close to the blonde, eyes locked carefully on her’s and even though he was the one who spoke up about whatever the hell they were doing right now, he didn’t move away from her. he was known to be impulsive, to act selfishly, to RUIN everything... so why couldn’t he just let this happen without trying to look out for her? let them ruin it for each other, ruin whatever it is they have?
so when she asked if this was telling him to stop there was a part of him that wanted to reply with something cocky and annoying, but there was an even bigger part of him that decided to tell the truth for once. he ran a finger across her jaw, letting it curl underneath her chin as he moved even closer to her, their breath mixing.
“...no. just making sure you know you’re still the one who should be thinking straight.”

As strange as it felt, standing at this height, the one advantage was that now Kaiden knew what it felt like, constantly towering over her like he did. Even when he didn’t mean to, she was constantly having to crane her neck back to look up at him. This felt a little like payback, even though she almost knew from the minute she told him not to hurt the kid that things were about to go badly.
“Or how about you don’t harm the girl at all. Do whatever you want to the witch, hell if I’m in the right mood I’ll help you. But the kid didn’t do anything - so we’re not going to touch the kid.” Maybe it was the fact that once upon a time she had been that girl, with the amount of hunting her dad usually meaning she was at least in some danger of being attacked by an angry supernatural creature, she was going to be adamant on this.
not to mention the moral issues. That was what caused most of their fights, the difference of morals. Or really, Kaiden’s lack of them. She wanted them to work together, especially on an issue like this, but not if he was going to go to ridiculous lengths.
kaidan made a slight noise of disgust from the back of his throat at the sound of his voice spouting all this nonsense and trying to tell him what they should do instead. sarah and kaidan didn’t think alike and that was just how it worked, kaidan didn’t want to have to explain himself at all but he also couldn’t lie to her and say he agreed with her, because later on when he did what he said he would do she would be much less forgiving. sarah was the only person he would ever explain himself to so he’s hoping she’d see that and then let it go but he DOUBTED that would happen and she wouldn’t probably let it until her last, annoying breath.
“you don’t get it!” he laughed irritably. “just killing that witch won’t teach her a lesson and i don’t have the patience to torture her in a dusty basement somewhere until her old ass finally croaks. it’s not just about her switching our bodies, that doesn’t matter to me, what matters is that she thought she could do whatever she wanted to me and expect to get away with it after the little discussion i had with her just a couple hours before she went on a damn power trip.” he stared up at her, eyes narrowed into slits. he decided her reply wasn’t important to him just as she opened her mouth, so instead he turned away and then began to sift through his bag of clothes, trying to find his cell phone.

katherine and kaidan both had their child taken from them when they were human, and after that horrible pain they felt, watching their only (and last) child being ripped away from them by their father of all people they can’t even bear to tolerate, let alone look at a child anymore. they chalk it up to them being annoying, messy, stupid, etc. but it goes much deeper than that. unfortunately they don’t (actively) let their humanity get in (the way) so they’ll always be disinterested in children.
