The Long 19th Century but make it Bridglar Week!
Hello! The world is really busy and deeply unstable right now and we know that there’s a lot going on & you might not have time to finish your Bridglar Week projects at the moment, so we just want to make sure you know that if you tag and @ us in Bridglar content AFTER this week, we will still be absolutely thrilled and we’ll definitely reblog it. You can also keep posting to the Ao3 collection after this week, whenever is convenient for you!

“Early morning?” Francis asks.
John nods, stands up and pushes his chair back in. “Moving into the new storefront tomorrow, first thing.”
Francis makes a dismissive noise, finishes his whisky. “It’s not the first of the month until Monday.”
John smiles fondly. “I think my landlord’s new–he tucked the keys under the door of my flat last week, left a note saying I could move in whenever I liked. Tomorrow was the best I could do with the movers, though.”
Francis arches his eyebrow, his skepticism writ clearly all over his face. “Do you think he knows what he’s doing, letting you move in early?”
John pauses, considers. “He must feel comfortable with any of the associated risks.” Thinks on it a moment while he picks up his glass, swirls the whisky around the bottom of it, and sets it back down without drinking. Adds, “He sounds young.”
“Oh jaysus,” Francis says, all the Irish pouring out in his voice. “You haven’t even met him yet?”
“It’s all been email or text,” John says. He shrugs, retrieves his leather jacket from the back of his chair and puts it on. “I’m sure it’ll be fine.”
For @bridglarweek – the fic is still in progress, but I wanted to share the aesthetic of the thing with the moodboard/excerpt.
New Tricks for an Old Dog is set in the Somewhere in Canada kink au verse, and takes place six-ish years before Closer.

John had secured this room for them as soon as they had disembarked from the Enterprise. It was small, but the bed comfortably fit two and Henry had nearly wept in relief when John told him they would be able to get hot water brought up so he could have a bath.

Not in a million years had Henry had ever actually expected to make it onto the show.
The whole thing had started off mostly as a joke, just a way to appease his mum and put a damper on her insistence that he was as brilliant a baker as the ones they saw onscreen each week. “Oh, just look at them Swiss Rolls,” she scoffed, as they sat side-by-side on the sofa. “Can’t hold a candle to your vanilla hazelnut.” But a few weeks after he sent in his video application, he got a call from a producer. It must have gone well, because there was another a week later from a casting director, asking if he could do a screen test, and after three days of auditions, a call came from an even more senior producer with the unbelievable news that he had made the final cut.

Now Announcing: Bridglar Week!
Mods @sailingsouthernseas and @dedraconesilet bring you: a week celebrating John Bridgens & Henry Peglar from The Terror (2018) featuring daily prompts and (unsurprisingly) many literary references & classical allusions for all of your fanwork-making needs!
The event will be running for a full seven days from January 17th to January 23rd, 2021, and the prompts will be revealed later today!
Prompts for Bridglar Week 2021
For each day of Bridglar Week, there are two prompts. The first set of prompts includes daily quotes from the Peglar Papers.
The second set of prompts are all different book titles, an idea inspired by the book-themed daily prompts from this year’s Trans Terror Week, which seemed particularly appropriate for re-application to this fandom’s beloved pairing of Gay Book Nerd (big spoon) and Gay Book Nerd (little spoon).
