I haven't abandoned this story. I just put it on the back burner for now. The story is just on a small vacation. It is currently out of office. It can't come to the phone right now. It just fell under my bed to sleep with the monsters. It never left my head. It is everywhere - except on paper.

They had received a letter from Lady Aethelflaed in the morning, asking for Uhtred to become the Lord of another small town in the North of Mercia. Rumcofa, she had written, was a Danish settlement and she thought Uhtred was the best person to rule there and protect the border.Β
Eadith shook her head, giving him an apologetic smile whilst her fingers toyed with one of her bracelets. βAfter everything that happened I don't really know who I am anymore.β
The Irishman frowned at her. βYou're Eadith. The fiercest woman I have ever met.β He said, the slight humor in his tone making her laugh. How dearly he loved that sound.Β

Goddam Uhtred just drops out of a tree onto an enemy, and the other 2 guys are so shocked that they just stand there and watch him stab their guy 3 TIMES with his own arrow. feral behaviour Uhtred. FERAL.
I mean, anyone would be impressed by a hot dude doing parkour

Every time Finan interacts with Uhtred he's so gentle. Like he can be so brash when he's joking around with the others and everything but anytime Uhtred is a little sad it's like he immediately shifts to comforting mode, his voice gets softer, he makes cautious physical contact, eye contact etc.
Kind of makes me think more about what their relationship was like on the slave ship, did keeping an eye on Uhtred help Finan get by? Was caring for someone else a comfort and a distraction for him?
When they finally escaped together he said they were bonded, and that rings so true when you look at how connected they are emotionally.
