the sea calls them, and so they spend their lives digging, carrying,  diving and reintroducing animals to bring beaches back, rising sea levels destroyed them long ago and they build a sort of garden so they dont get forgotten

arboreal dogs are descendants of defective genetically engineered creatures dumped into the wilderness to die. their dna seems to be nearly identical and so their radically different behaviour and aspect are believed to be product of recessive genes tied to desired characteristics of the original project manifesting due enviromental pressure

the first time he met the elder immortal was under Mont Saint Michel's abbey in the fall of 1976. the island had a modern road, shops and the signs of tourists everywhere so it was hard to picture the encounter that would soon take place, but he knew his interlocutor had to be close, and the reason he was allowed to wander freely so late at night. after leading to the church itself he descended into one of the 15th century crypts, a gallery of arches full of deep shadows. it was an eerie place, quiet, cold  and dry. a few steps deeper he heard a faint metallic creack, and a figure emerged from behind a pillar.   from their brief correspondence he was expecting an ageless creature, an undead gentleman pale as ivory, or the waxy look of the dead  as his grandfather many years ago.  but as his eyes adjusted to the dim light  a  withered skeleton sunken into a wolven reed wheelchair  pushed by a silent assistant came slowly into view. its skin was almost like paper, grayish blue and crackling in places, large patches of exposed bone held together by dry tendons. an empty eye socket and a missing ear, mouth partially opened, teeth visible with the shriveled lips pulled all the way back. it sat in a odd manner, as if it had been mummified in a different position and put there after, a hand resting against its body and the other in front in a strange gesture.  the fine gray wool coat, polished shoes and a yellow scarf neatly wrapped  around its neck made the creature even harder to look at.

after a moment of silence the skeleton inhaled with difficulty. the dislodged jaw didnt seem to bother  it, and while its mouth remained motionless a voice came from within. it was hoarse and faint like an old scratched record and nearly unintelligible at moments,  but in those words he recognized the man he came looking for. his quest for arcane forgotten knowedge had begun.

with their box they're smart enough to talk, do simple math and remember routines, without them they're unable to do such things and prone to seizures, but some biologists worry they could become invasive species, as theyre still intelligent enough to use contundent objects and other simple tools and their hunting instincts and social organization are still somewhat present. theyre sterilized from birth, but the technology to bypass this safeguard has been out for years with the appropiate lab and aquipement

emergency stations used to be dropped from orbit. theyre a 2.5 mt cube  with about 3 square mt of space inside. they were designed as temporary housing, but some live in them permanently

gloria and sylvia have been part of the elysium casino for so long there's no way they're human (the casino is named 3 peaks, roughly mid distance from the three volcanoes  most of the metals it stores come from, serving also as the main powersource of all the mine system)

the drowned is the remains of a higher entity that manifests in our plane as a perpetually rotting corpse phazing in and out existence in the deep ocean. it appears to be semi consciouss, but its unknown if its actually alive or its merely reflex actions
