Alright, alright, let's talk about SotO. Keep your chin up. This'll be long, but as fair as I can make it. It's not all negative, but it's not all positive either. My hope is to just be real about it. Feedback welcome. Blast me in reblogs if you don't agree, I'm genuinely eager for the conversation.

Every once in awhile I consider sitting down and drawing a bunch of (human) gw2 npcs from memory to kinda test myself on faces/bodies

but when I try I can't remember what any of their faces look like and, as we all know, the body types even for npcs are essentially like, 2-3 slightly altered variations each

(I could also make up body types as I go just because but 1- what would suit each npc I would draw? 2- that would just be inviting random people to yell at me because I drew their fave wrong and I do not have the energy for that)

Frick it, here's Kasmeer from memory. (face/body at least, clothes are from the ref I grabbed later because I don't feel like suffering)

My memory is garbage and as much as I talk about body types, 90% of the time I only know how to draw like, 2 maybe 3 different shapes lol

This is the sylvari costume I wore for Anthrocon 2019! I made necromancer armor that I wear in game (exalted, conjurer, flame kissed, molten) along with a couple custom items (the book focus says OTP in Krytan, the dagger also has a special meaning). Ravendarkcreations sculpted the nose prosthetic, the minion, and the dagger! (He actually has bone minion up for sale in his shop if you’d like one of your own). The photos were done by Dani McCarty. I’m so glad I have so many friends to help and encourage me, and to wear it at the con. There are still things I want to try (like glow in the dark paint/eye contacts/ led gloves) but it’s so fun to become a character from a game that made a profound impact on me!

I wonder if anyone's roleplayed in the starting instances

Oh, absolutely. I have mostly witnessed it in the Sylvari and Charr instances (mostly because that's where I have the most characters), but I have seen sylvari RPing and reacting to The Dream becoming violent and talking about their dreams up until that point, and sometimes large groups of charr talking about how the ghosts are acting up again or how they're shocked/annoyed with how bloody things got from ghosts they've thrashed a hundred times before.

Peitha's not boring but anet's utilization of her sure is. She got introduced and framed as the mysterious, intriguing alien being and then we meet her and she's just like

your standard rebel with the only noteworthy design of her entire species aside from Cerus, with a Sultry voice

Eparch sure is boring though, Cerus would have been a more compelling overarching villain. His introduction had proper weight to it.

Also not to mention, the commander is a WEIRDO, we all know that and Peitha was drawn to how bizarre the commander is, she saw something unique in them Then we proceed to go to Nayos and we're just kind of there, she proceeds to do nothing of note that really requires the commander's freak-ass nonsense, we're just another number to contribute in a fight

I was going to wait until the full release was out before posting any opinions but I don't expect to get surprised, I really miss all of the far more interesting wizards like Mabon, Zojja, Lhyrr, Dagda. Instead we've just got the Fight-Ward, Frode, Arina and Galrath who don't offer much more than anything a standard NPC from the Vigil back in the Personal Story couldn't

☣️🐀☢️ Tarchaak gets to debut in art form! Despite the fact I've had him as a character for a few years now. He's a botanist and environmental science tech (and eco-terrorist but we don't talk about that out in the open) but his hobbies include club dancing and being as Extra as possible.

my guild wars 2 'take' is that joko is probably the best villain the game ever handed to us. like yeah ok balthazar wanted to take over the world and the dragons wanted to eat the world. whatever. joko was hand crafted by an artisan for the express purpose of being the most irritating possible guy. him and the commander have such a dire fatalistic frenzied dynamic where its like they want to eat each other alive like two overstressed rats in a tiny cage. he is not ONLY cruel and creepy, he is also intensely stupid and furthermore has the gall to get horny about it. if he weren't a shriveled desiccated corpse with a big hat he would be this fandom's emet-selch i think.

I decided that I really wanted to revamp one of my old GW2 characters, Minardi, who has more or less been frozen in time for the past 6 years. And I decided that, to commemorate taking her off the shelf, I wanted to make art of her as well (and give myself a reason to do some art and fight the burnout). I don't really know where she belongs anymore, but at the very least I can say she belongs here.
