Daemon without Nettles in his arc: he no longer develops a bond with a woman who brings him no political advantage; he’ll no longer question his belief of Targaryen supremacy by facing the reality that maybe a person without Valyrian ancestry was able to claim a dragon; he’ll no longer betray his cause, his Queen and his blood to save an innocent woman from death. Regardless if you consider nettles another victim of his grooming habits, he put her before all the things he believed to save her when that would bring him nothing. If out of guilt or selfless love, it’s nuance we won’t see coming from him anymore. So a character who is already pretty dark will become much darker.

Rhaenyra without Nettles in her arc: she no longer has any reason to display her racism and classism; she’ll no longer order the death of a woman based on accusations that this woman is sleeping with her husband when said husband was already cheating on her with others and she was aware of it; she’ll no longer sabotage an ally for a petty reason and alienate a dragon rider who so far had fought for her cause. So an already whitewashed character becomes even more saintly in the narrative.

SO HOW IS NETTLES ERASURE SOMETHING DONE BY THE WRITERS TO BENEFIT DAEMON WHEN ITS HIS CHARACTER WHO LOSES ALL NUANCE AND COMPLEXITY WITH HER REMOVED FROM THE STORY?

I’m sorry but do you really consider this…a win? You know that the line only continues through rhaenyra because aegon II was killed right? You really think a deeply traumatized kid sitting the throne is a win? That the line continues through her even though in history her line grew more and more self destructive? That the modern day targaryen family was exiled and bordering extinction?

Truth is no one won, both sides did atrocious acts that lead to them not being remembered fondly in westerosi history and did long lasting damage to the stability of their reign and cost them their main source of power.

The houses who were neutral are doing fine. The houses who backed the greens (namely house hightower) are still prosperous and influential, meanwhile the houses that backed the blacks (namely house valeryon, their biggest supporters) are insignificant blips on the map since they lost more than they gained even participating in the war.

But the waring factions? Saying they won based off whose blood continued it…is just a really dumb statement because when you look at what comes afterwards…was it really a victory? The whole house Targaryen is the definition of both self-sabotage and self destruction.

These protests only got violent when cops showed up. They only got violent when extremists and disruptors sabotaged the masses. All of this is intentional and meant to smear the movement. Because these students like many others since any of these protests began have said over and over and fucking over what it's all about and that it has nothing to do with Jewish hate. Theory: The Connection Between Dragons and Valyrians in A Song of Ice and Fire

Okay, so this isn't a new theory by any means, but I'm into it and I wanted to record it somewhere so I could go back to it purely for my fanfiction writing purposes. I will be making reference to these ideas in my writing, so this isn't really anything more than an infodump for myself for what is essentially medieval smut masquerading as intellectualism.

The question on everyone's minds: why are Valyrians unique? What gives them the ability to ride dragons? Their appearance? Why the obsession with incest? And dragons - where did they come from? Why is there such a clear link between this subset of people and the occurrence of the giant winged firebreather?

I'm going to try to articulate my theory that ties some of the lingering questions together into a cohesive hypothesis. Stay tuned. Keep in mind, none of this is particularly profound or innovative, so please don't presume any motivation for this other than what I've explicitly stated; but I need a place to put it all or it'll keep swirling in my head.

i think alicents reaction to rhaenys disrupting the coronation is soooooo indicative of her relationships with each of her kids bc like. she tells criston to defend helaena, who she thinks of as the most fragile and in need of protection (ahem she sees her younger self in helaena ahem), but doesn’t do it herself, bc i think there is a fundamental distance between them, since alicent loves her daughter but doesn’t understand her. aemond doesn’t get a mention, because he has always been the child she sees the most as an adult, her equal she believes on some level can take care of himself. and aegon. she stands in front of aegon. which is suchhhhh a significant thing because. it will not do anything. alicents body won’t protect aegon if meleys decides to burn them, it will just kill them both. alicents life is aegons life, she was married to viserys for him, she became queen for him, everything she did from when she was a teenager was for him. and how beautiful and tragic and horrible that she just decides in this moment that if aegon dies she will die too.
