"Is that so?" You ask with amusement and your girlfriend, who's lying on top of you on the sofa with her head on your chest, hums a confirmation.
"Did you ever have something that was like a life raft?" Wanda asks in a low voice, her fingers playing with the fabric of your T-shirt. "Something that would always make you feel better instantly, would always keep your fears away?"
"Hmm, I don't think so." You answer after a thoughtful moment, your hand gently running through the locks of her hair. "I did." The brunette lets you know. "When I was a kid, I had this otter plush-"
"An otter plush?" You interrupt with a surprised giggle, an amused smile on your lips. "They're so cute!" The witch defends herself naturally, and you smiled a little more at the mental sight of a tiny Wanda hugging a stuffed otter.
"My dad got it for me when I was five." The brunette continues the story with a nostalgic smile that soon turns into a sorrowful frown. "But then, well, the bomb happened and we lost everything. Pietro became my safe place after that. But then Ultron..."
Her voice was brittle as she cut herself off mid-sentence, and you lay a soothing kiss on the top of her head as she swallows the lump in her throat.
"I'm just happy I have a safe place again." Wanda says as she hugs you tighter, and you smile as you reciprocate the embrace. "And I'll always be here for you to hold me when you need to."
"You better be," the brunette replies with a humorous tone that isn't enough to mask her fear when she adds, "because I can't lose you too."
"You won't." You promisse as you kiss her head again, her brown hair preventing you from seeing her sad smile as she hides her face in your shirt a bit further. "You can't promise that."
"Watch me fight the entire universe and the probability laws for you." Your joke makes her giggle, the vibration of the sound against your chest making you smile contently.
"I love you so much." Wanda's voice reaches your ears after a few minutes of silence, and you smile as you reply with ease, "I love you more than anything, my dear... Oh, and before I forget." You announce before lowering your voice as if about to tell a secret. A secret you don't plan to hide from anyone.
"You are my safe place too."
