Thanks to your donations from the previous drive, Mona and her brothers managed to buy many sacks of flour to distribute to people in the refugee camps in Rafah. I'm genuinely amazed at how much you lovely people are doing.

Please remember to donate! Every dollar helps! P*ypal.

what if i decided i'm straight up not posting any new art publicly until that family's GFM in my pinned is at least Halfway to its goal

(even half my followers donating 5 bucks each would do that btw)

i am willing to make this go on forever, btw, but for obvious reasons, i'd rather not, not because i lack the conviction to do so, but because this is an urgently Time Sensitive Issue and why risk this family not being here a month from now! you never know! that's why i'm asking you guys to do this, i cannot do much, it feels scattered with so many causes, but this is just the one picked, at random, to aim people towards, focused effort style

additionally; while i am citing my followers on that math, it still helps, to boost this, you don't even have to boost this post specifically, i've pinned the original post for this gfm; i'm not asking i be plugged in any way, or to be followed by new people would share it with, but if you enjoy my work and want to see it return, and truly do want to help regardless but are also struggling (i know how it is, trust me) then you can still spread the gfm to others, link it to places and just ask like, your pals? coworkers? in your discords or mutual support chatrooms? suggest donation matching, however it might get this there quickly, for the family's sake

the impending threat of the borders closing altogether in a couple weeks makes this all the more pressing btw. i withhold the only thing i have to offer, because it would mean the world to me if you helped them before it is too late.

please.

Real observations since I started wearing a wizard hat daily:

- Brim is so wide that I stay BONE DRY taking walks in the rain

- Brim can be positioned to block the sun from ever getting in my eyes AND keeping it off the back of my neck

- The pointed top part creates an air pocket, keeping my head from getting hot or squishing my hair as it might in a ball cap

- Hat can easily be pulled down over the tips of my ears without looking dumb, protecting them from wind chill

- Strangers say they like my hat, giving me the chance to tell them that I am a wizard

- When you’re wearing a wizard hat, ALL OTHER FASHION CHOICES become secondary, allowing you to branch out with style

Embrace ego death. Stay protected from all elements. Wear a wizard hat.

platforming palestinian joy is just as important as sharing the suffering they're enduring during this genocide. despite continued displacement and bombardment, you cannot steal their joy and spirit. happy birthday to this sweet baby 🖤🇵🇸 may they grow up to see a free palestine

this beautiful baby is the son of ibrahim abu raida, the 25 y/o executive director of the al nasser charity in gaza, an organization working to distribute food to the displaced. they have many different ways to donate linked on their instagram (linked above) and also have a personal gfm to help with their own rebuilding efforts that is over 80% of the way to its goal.

This machine kills AI

Text reads: "posting this on behalf of a member [if Artists Against Generative AI] who would like to remain anonymous:

"I'm an art director and supervisor for a large studio. The studio heads had the bright idea before I started to hire prompters. Several bros were brought in on the film project. I absolutely hated myself for not quitting on the spot but stayed because it's mercenary out there. Have a family to feed etc. I decided to use this time wisely. Treat them as I would any artist I had hired. First round of pictures of a sweeping Ariel forest landscape comes through and it's not bad. They submit a ton of work and one or two out of the 40 are ok. Nearly on brief. So the first round of feedback goes through and I tell them about the perspective mistakes, color changes I want, layers that any matte painting would be split into. Within a day I get 5 variants. Not changes to the ones I wanted but variations. Again. Benefit of the doubt I give them another round of feedback making it clear. Next day it's worse. I sit there and patiently paint over, even explaining the steps I would take as a painter. They don't do it, anomalies start appearing when I say I want the exact same picture but with changes. They can't. They simply don't have the eye to see the basic mistakes so the AI starts to overcompensate. We get people starting to appear in the images. These are obviously holiday snaps.

"Remove these people."

"What would you like them changed to?"

"...grass. I just don't want them there."

They can't do it. The one that can actually use Photoshop hasn't developed the eye to see his mistakes, ends up getting angry at me for not understanding he can't make specific changes. The girl whose background was a little photography ends up giving me 40 progressively worse images with wilder mistakes every time. This is 4 days into the project. I'm both pissed about the waste, but elated to see AI fail at the first hurdle. It's not even that the images are unusable, the people making them have no eye for what's wrong, no thicker skin for constructive criticism and feedback, no basic artistic training in perspective and functionality in what they're making.

Yes the hype is going to pump more money into this. They won't go anywhere for a while. But this has been such a glowing perfect moment of seeing the essential part fail in the face of the most simple tasks. All were fired and the company no longer accepts AI prompters as applicants. Your training as an artist will always be the most important part of the process and it is invaluable. I hope this post gives you a boost in a dark time." [End text]

CONTEXT: the gaza freedom flotilla coalition aims to bring emergency aid (food, medical supplies, etc) to a starving and besieged gaza. activists and journalists from all over the world (including diaspora palestinians like dylan) will be participating, and they know the risk — in 2010 turkish activists attempting a similar mission had their flagship raided by israeli forces, who murdered 10 activists aboard (9 died on site and another died later from critical injuries).

i’d like to note additionally that i believe this kind of pressure on representatives is especially important considering the 2010 raid was defended by biden. (definitely recommend reading this article — from 2010, mind you — which has him spouting the same bullshit he’s regurgitating to this day.)
