Political moderates are what George Washington intended. They aren’t democrat, republican, liberal or conservative. They’re a mix of all and allow all voices and points of view to be heard.
Yeah cause George Washington had only great ideas ok sure. Maybe being a centrist was cool when you could take indigenous people’s land and own slaves all willy nilly, but I don’t think a progressing society benefits much from being neutral about issues.
1. Never said he had only great ideas. 2. Centrist is still cool -ex. Abortion: Conservative: religious immoral and people can’t do it Liberal: everyone can do what they want Centrist: I believe it’s religiously immoral HOWEVER, people have the right to their own bodies 3. Society doesn’t progress when the government has a majority in either side( conservative, liberal, republican, democrat) everyone fights to prevent the other from getting what they want. If we had more centrists a compromise could be found for issues. 4. Centrist pov can even be supported by Abraham Lincoln if you take the quote “House divided can not stand” and apply it to our DIVIDED political views you’d see that it has a similar meaning as when he said it about the DIVIDED political views of slavery.
Society literally does progress when progressives have power. Abraham Lincoln was a progressive, especially for his time. Abolishing slavery wasn’t exactly finding a common ground with southern slave owners lmao. His reaction to the divided political views on slavery was forcing everyone to give up slaves- that doesn’t really sound like a compromise. Other examples of a majority party making great change- Lyndon B Johnson and the great society, FDR and ending the depression as well as greater access to healthcare and social benefits, Obama and more steps towards universal healthcare (flawed but getting there) as well as the legalization of gay marriage. Not much has happened from being a centrist. Especially nothing revolutionary. Just ask Hillary Clinton.
1. Ending slavery was a compromise when he literally paid the owners reparations. He didn’t just abolish slavery, he paid for their owners for their salves freedom. So it was was compromise. Everyone got a good piece in the deal. 2. World War Two ended the depression because of the economic boom it created. 3. “Not much has happened from being a centrist” because centrists don’t get voted in. Only left wing, right wing, democrat, and republicans get voted in and those splits close any chance of centrists to be voted in. 4. Hillary Clinton is not a centrist. She’s a liberal democrat.
1.The south was in absolute economic shambles. there wasn’t a good piece of the deal for the south. Its like someone paying you to take the car that you use to drive to work everyday. Sure you got money for the car, but now you have no source of stable income. 2. Centrists didn’t want to join the war cause they didn’t want to get involved. Going to war is pretty radical. 3&4. Centrists don’t connect with people because they are wishy washy and appear to have no real convictions or solutions to issues. Hillary is a centrist as she speaks as tho she wants to help the middle class and poor but still makes sure the elite get their dues. Democrats like her and republicans like Romney are very moderate. Both candidates lost. Trump won, whether we like it or not, because his radical notions stuck with people. Bernie, if he was not thrown under the bus by “moderate democrats” also resonated with voters.
1. When he gave the rich farming men money, they can PAY workers. Just like you can PAY an uber or public transit to get to work with the money you were given. 2. Centrist and alike were drafted in the war. Nevertheless, it wasn't just a president that helped bring back the economy; it was a war effort. Everyone building machinery and guns and bullets and sending it overseas built the economy up again. 3. Hillary is not a centrist; she is a liberal. And as "wishy-washy" as those candidate were, they are NOT centrist. They did not propose plans that would actually help both sides. 4. Bernie was thrown under the bus by the whole Democratic Party and voter majority. Bernie didn't resonate with enough people or else he would've ran against trump. There's a possibility that corruption is what prevented him from getting ahead. 5. Being radical about any subject doesn't help anything or anyone, EXCEPT in the cases of racism and gay marriage. I'm glad gay marriage was passed. I hope racism is gone in the future. But, like on abortion, both sides are disagreeing so strongly that only radical things are being proposed about it. Everything that is proposed/put into action causes public outcry. You take away planned parent hood and liberals are angry; you give everyone the right to abort a baby and conservatives are angry. There must be a middle ground where we can put in a program to help mothers make a decision about their babies without so much anger from either side.
