apparently ppl don’t know about waifu2x??? despite its… concerning name it’s literally the most convenient website i’ve ever come across as an artist

it allows you to resize artwork without it becoming pixellated. this is a MASSIVE help if you, for example, make lineart too small or something. it works best with things that 1. have no textures 2. have smooth lines 3. have cel shading, but it still works really damn well for things that don’t fit that profile

waifu2x-multi is the newer version. It allows for rescaling multiple pictures at a time and to scale them up to 10x the original size.

These #jellyfish Cassiopea (upside-down jellyfish) partake in a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic dinoflagellates and therefore, must lay upside-down in areas with sufficient light penetration to fuel their energy source. Where found, there may be numerous individuals with varying shades of white, blue, green and brown.

Sometimes this jellyfish is picked up by the #crab Dorippe frascone and carried on its back. The crab uses the jellyfish to defend itself against possible predators.

there’s a sleep “disorder” that is literally just “your circadian rhythm is inconvenient for school/work” and people with it have to take meds to make themselves sleepy earlier/later 

otherwise there’s absolutely nothing wrong with their quality/amount of sleep they just don’t have a schedule that works for society

shout out to second shifters - i traded prime time for good sleep

It’s even got disorder in the name: delayed sleep phase disorder. And yes, if you have to have a “normal” schedule, it makes your life hell.

ADHD throws your circadian rhythm off, too. Most people with ADHD have a natural circadian rhythm that makes us tired from, generally, about 4am to noon - myself included. When I’m left to my own devices, those are basically the exact times I will naturally fall asleep and wake up. 

“Why do kids with ADHD have so much trouble in school? Why do adults with ADHD have so much trouble keeping decent 9-5 jobs?” Well, gee, maybe because it’s hard to get any work done when our bodies are literally programmed to be asleep. How well would you perform if you had to wake up at the equivalent of 2am to go to school or work? Not well? Then imagine how it feels for us, every single day of our lives.

There’s a lot about ADHD which I hate and wish would go away, but this part? See above. Our circadian rhythm is only disabling to us because society refuses to make room for us.

I used to work 10 to 12 hour shifts delivering pizzas, but I got to start at 12 or later so I never got tired. At my current 9-5, I have literally fallen asleep at work because I’m so exhausted. The assumption that we should all sleep at the same time is dumb and mean and I am so very tired

Alright, y'all. Bug nerd here. Yes, this is real. This is Charidotella sexpunctata. It’s able change color like this by filling and emptying its elytra (the wing covers) with water. The mirror-like gold effect is caused by it forcing water into separate layers of its elytra, smoothing them out to the point where they actually reflect light. By drawing the water out, the red pigment beneath is exposed. They do this whenever they’re disturbed as a defense mechanism, likely to mimic foul tasting lady beetles.

There are three types of moon marks worn by moth/butterfly royalty.

The first one from the left demonstrates the one only used by the current Queen.

The second one (the young moon) is reserved for potential successors of the Monarch.

The crescent moon is the symbol used by the members of royal family who are either older than 40 or gave up their right to inherit the throne. They can not be picked by the Monarch to become the next Ruler.

So, in my art history class today, my professor was talking about something that is so fuckin awesome.

These are warrior shields from the Wahgi people of Papua New Guinea. The warriors paint them with imagery meant to symbolize animals who have traits they wish to embody in battle. These depictions are intended to give the person using it the powers of what they’re depicting.

Now. Look at this Wahgi shield:

Hmm. That looks a bit different from the others.

That looks VERY different. Why, it looks like

The Phantom… American comic book character by Lee Falk. And that’s because it is.

The Wahgi people were isolated from the rest of the “modern” world until 1933. They came into contact with WWII service men who shared some aspects of western culture with the tribesmen. In particular, they showed them the comic books they read while shipped out. The Wahgi loved them. In particular, the Wahgi adored the stories of the Phantom, who wasn’t even particularly popular in its home of America.

He is so popular that the few Wahgi who can read english will read the comics out loud in the village center and hold out the pages for everyone to see, so the whole tripe can enjoy them and marvel at the Phantom’s might in battle.

They identify with the Phantom because he came from a jungle territory, like them, wore a mask to fight, like them, and came from a long line of warriors, which the Wahgi, who worshiped their ancestors, deeply respected. Further, despite not really having superpowers, the Phantom is strong, clever, and incredibly fast. He was so fast that his enemies began to believe that he was impervious to bullets and could not be killed.

Therefore, the Wahgi began painting HIM on their shields to invoke HIS abilities in battle. There are TONS of Phantom-Wahgi shields out there.

So, you might think that you’re huge comic book fan, but the Wahgi have taken their Phantom fandom to the next level and have made the Phantom a fucking talisman to carry into battle for strength.

That is pretty fucking cool.
