(no one asks but here's my merlin headcanon. i mean, love triangle is an indispensable necessity in arthurian romance, so)

  • top 3 fav characters: merlin, morgana, gwaine. (irish gang yay)
  • top 3 fav ships: merthur, mergana, merwaine.
  • my only hard no on the ships involving merlin is gwen/merlin... i just, don't get it. (imo they're like schuyler sisters with gwen being not so clueless a girl as eliza. gwen is a brilliant and sensitive person who would definitely notice merlin's poorly hidden feelings if she cared. so that leaves gwen either not caring merlin that much like we'd like to think of her, or knowing merlin's heart but still choosing to marry her supposed bff's love of his life.)
  • don't really ship ships without merlin, ESPECIALLY arthur/others and gwaine/others. (sorry i’m such a petty person.) except for pre-canon morgana/arthur. i love that pendragon siblings thought it was more than enough that at least they had each other and all the time ahead, but then, boom, here comes the peasant boy.
  • and every time seeing arthur/others or gwaine/others i feel like a teenager trying to play it cool when they see the new family of the parent they don't live with after the divorce because they know it's not their life choice to make and splitting up might be in fact a better choice and wanna act like an adult but deep down they just cry like it's the fckn end of the world (sorry i’m not only petty but also really melodramatic)
  • btw merlin is a sub vers bttm in dis house and i'm too vulnerable to see him otherwise🥺

i may be stalking your blog a lil bc your art style is just so gorgeous, but have you ever done animation before? cause a lot of your art gives me like short-pixar-films-that-make-you-cry vibes and i love it

thank you, really flattered it looks cinematic to you!

i've helped some animator friends do a little bit of tweening and backgrounds on their personal projects but in general i don't do animation😂

Do you have any Mergana headcanons?

not so much as merthur but here are some snippets:

my general headcanon (you can find my highly summarized thoughts on mergana in this post)

lady and the tramp (this one is about morgana’s hatred as the one being left in arthur/merlin/morgana triangle. she grudges merlin taking arthur away from her as much as she resents him not choosing her. she loathes arthur for leaving her behind as much as she envies him having merlin on his side)

my mergana is mostly unrequited like my merwaine, but there is a bit more because of something merlin might considers related to “the big picture.” tbf, merlin is always quite patronizing in front of his muggle bfs, like he is simply playing house with these silly boys who have no idea what he’s on, but he would show some respect to morgana as a rival in their game of throne, which, for me, feels way more sincere than him being “would i ever do harm to you? i always do it for your good” kind of a mum to arthur. (i also like the general tension of “why can’t you choose my side” between these two)

(congrats on merthur’s rise on tumblr’s ship ranking! and it once again proves that my drawings are so painfully shitty ppl give zero eff about it despite the popularity of the ship whoa)

if anyone’s interested, i’m writing a drabble collection based on each one of these fake cc covers: https://archiveofourown.org/series/2070306

His king is the Sun in heaven, like what’s written in poetry.

Merlin, though, isn’t the Moon chasing him across the sky. Merlin is gravity, gas and dust. The particles of matter, the forces of nature. Stars are born and burn out in his cold, cold bosom.

a bit of explanation for the caption if anyone’s interested:

However dazzling the king might be, he is only mortal, while Merlin isn’t really. Kings rise, Kings fall, Merlin is always there, a phlegmatic, celestial soul.

In Taoism it says “the heaven and earth have no mercy; they simply treat everything and everyone like a straw” which represents an aura i always feel around merlin. (idk if there’s an equivalent concept in other cultures, perhaps eldritch beings like Cthulhu? it’s not intentional wickedness, they just don’t care.)

Just finished watching The Fall recently, and I think Merlin’s amorality probably could be classified under this “treatable but incurable” category, or even untraceable. His deeds surely results from his obsession with Arthur and his solitariness/alienation to some extent, but they mostly only bring out what has been in merlin for a long time (in my headcanon).

His obsession for Arthur is like a habit of collecting dolls or some godlike sense of control. Despite the apparent imbalance in their relationship, the sacrifice in the name of love is more of a self-satisfying mannerism for him, along with his characteristic self-destructiveness.

As for his loneliness, even though he doesn’t have a father figure or a mentor, he grows up in the care of Hunith and Will, which should be considered a loving environment. of course childhood trauma could originate in rather trivial, one-time thing, but I think (or I’d like to think) his deviance isn’t caused by the surroundings (and on the contrary, it’s the said surroundings that condition him into conforming the societal norm just fine when life was more mundane as a peasant).

One thing particularly unsettles me through the show is his lack of suffering from PTSD. (i know it’s a kid show featuring a lot of bad writings but still.) Most of his emotional reactions function well. he is able to genuinely laugh and cry and get angry, but then those feelings seem quite shifting/inconsistent sometimes, e.g. how easily he is cheered by Arthur’s head-lock shortly after Freya’s death, or he never appears eaten by guilt afterwards or afraid of how easy violence is with his power when he is often quite generous to shows some compassion like “I don’t want it either but you’re not making this easy” but then kills with an attitude like “Oh no, anyway. Last week...” and it’s not even a gradual process, his unaffectedness starts in 101 when he chooses to stay even after witnessing the execution which is just too sociopathic for me.

All in all, what I’m trying to say here is that merlin is everything, yet he is never man.

少女革命モルガーナ

〜 Guinevere and Morgana: la fillette révolutionnaire 〜

A friend told me a while ago that she didn't understand how Morgana could be so cruel to Gwen who was once so dear to her. My take on this is that it’s exactly because Gwen was once so dear to her that Morgana is pained so much by Gwen’s endorsement of Pendragon regime, by her choice of the other side which denies Morgana's being. I get Gwen’s pragmatic choice of settling for a marriage to an acceptable man in power given her predicament after her old master’s revolt and her father’s execution (also being the one with the least privileges as a commoner as well as a muggle among the main four) but still, a betrayal is a betrayal. it's like that famous Baldwin quote "we can disagree and still love each other, unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist." (To be frankly I have no idea how people could downplay Morgana and Mordred and so many others' sufferings with "Can't we all just get along?")

If it was an (obnoxiously) Americanized Netflix show, Gwen would crusade against tyrannical Camelot because she finally understood JFK's "freedom is indivisible" after her father's unfair death. And she would likely be the one saving the world at the end of the day when Morgana was reduced to the opportunist-masquerading-as-activist kind of terrorist, and Merthur were busy playing house, pretending Arthur’s weight management and daddy issues or Merlin’s control freakiness was important than the Magical Lives Matter campaign or anything else.
