Chocolate is a 2 year old Simese, I’ve had her since she was just a month old when I rescued her from one of the storage sheds in the backyard. On Thursday her eye began to look irritated so I cleaned it up and I figured one of the other cats had popped her in the face and that it would get better. I did call the vet, but they could do nothing for me over the phone without seeing her, but they didn’t take payments and payment would have to be in full after service was rendered.

That evenjng her her eye was getting better, the irritation had gone down and it seemed to get better throughout the weekend. However this morning it has gotten worse. Her face is now swollen around the eye and She needs to be seen.

The money will go to getting her to the vet as well as paying for any medication or treatment they prescribe.

I will be eternally grateful for your help because I don’t want her to suffer anymore than she already has.

Meet Sophie!

Sophie is the absolute best little kitty in the world. I adopted her seven years ago from a humane society and she was very scruffy and sad-looking, this skinny little kitty with a blind eye and weird greasy fur:

With lots of TLC, she turned into the best beautiful little kitty buddy anyone could ever hope to have.

Sophie is my buddy and has been with me through some very crappy times in my life. She loves her people and follows me from room to room when I’m home. She politely sits by my pillow in the morning when she waits for me to wake up, and gets mad at me if I stay up to late. She grew up with three kids, two of which were babies, and has always been the sweetest, gentlest, loveliest cat in the world. She even helps when I’m working:

Unfortunately, this Saturday I noticed that Sophie had somehow broken one of her front canine teeth right up to the gum. I took her in to the vet and found out she has developed an autoimmune disorder where her body is attacking the enamel of her teeth. Her teeth are in rough shape and she will have to have most of them, or possibly even all of them, pulled out.

The good news is she has an excellent vet and will be receiving great care, and apparently having no teeth won’t really affect her that much. She’ll be happier and in no pain.

The bad news is that it is going to be very expensive. She’s already had $470 in bloodwork, appointments and medication to prepare for her big surgery. The actual dental surgery has been quoted to cost between $1800 and $2500, up to a maximum of $3000 if all of her teeth end up needing to be pulled. They won’t know for sure just how much needs to be done until she is sedated and they can clean and fully inspect all of her teeth.

That’s the bill just to get ready for the big surgery!
