It Begins
Lat was writing at her desk, skimming the reports when a courier arrives at the office, breathless. Lat waves dismissively at the person. “Come in. What’s the scoop today?”
The courier dropped the paper onto her desk. “It’s beginning.”
She looked up quickly, all color flushing from her face. “wot.” She grabbed the envelope and ripped it open, skimming the contents with an intense look on her face. She looks up to the courier. “And this has been fully corroborated? ain’t just some dumb locks being obnoxious?”
The courier had a look of death on his face, something off about his composure. “It is fully confirmed. Military officials already have reports of casualties and vessels spreading across both continents…people are already hearing things…it’s beginning.”
Lat closed her eyes, and let out a quick exhale. “Okay. I need to step outside.” The man nodded, though there was an odd twitch in his eye. Lat didn’t notice it at first.
Her brain was focused on next steps…she had to see it for herself…closest invasion was Westfall, so that was her location to check. She’d have to grab Risri as backup for this one…criminals? She can handle. An invasion? Best bring a friend.
As for the team….She chewed on her lip. It was not gonna be pretty. They would have to reprioritize coverage, focus on what needs people would have. Social events were now gonna be kicked down a notch. And she would have to be extra careful to keep them safe.
But then something peered into the back of her head, and suddenly something whispered in her mind…something unlike anything she had heard in her mind.
Offers of power..of darkness…of joining the Legion. It was soothing, yet overwhelming. For any normal person, it might’ve won them over.
Unfortunately, the other voices in her head didn’t like them being in there, and fought back.
Physically, Lat’s body had tensed uncontrollably. Something within was fighting…struggling for her will. If a person were to walk by the pair, they would see Latilda convulsing slightly, and a man staring into the back of her head..odd, but nothing too worrisome.
Then the whispers decided they didn’t like visitors and evicted them.
Lat’s irises turned black, and her form stopped convulsing, instead shifting into Worgen form…except this form was darker than usual, strands of shadow energy shimmering around her. She turned around, her black eyes staring into the man, who was surprised to find out the reporter had a darker side.
The worgen swept towards the man, grabbing him by his throat and ramming him into the wall. An echo-y growl emanated from its throat, not like Lat’s voice…but inhuman. “She serves the shadows, not your ilk.” The man snickers. “Not that it matters…we’ll get to the rest of her team…you will all bow.”
“Good luck.” With that, she rams a claw into the man’s chest, the shadowy visage piercing through him like he was made of little but paper.
The man coughs up blood, and attempts to say more, but his eyes simply fade and his head flops.
The worgen tosses the body into the canal, cleaning off its claws.
Inside, Lat claws inside, screaming. This had never happened before. Watching the things she had bargained with take over was….horrifying, to say the least. She hated seeing such behemoths use her body to do so much ill. It was almost enough for her to want to tear the creatures out of her.
As she continued to climb out of the pit that the creatures had placed her mind in, she saw it peer in.
“You will get your body back. We only wish to -Protect- our investment.” It offered an inhuman claw, a giddy smile across its horrific features.
She scowled at the creature, but grabbed the claw, and as she did, things came back into vision.
As she opened her eyes, she found herself back in control….but her energy was consumed…her spirit…fading.
Her legs felt like lead as she plodded into her office, only to collapse against the wall. Her comm started beeping, the vital sensors noting the change in Latilda’s medical state.
She was fading fast, but the comm beeped out “Calling Risri for medical attention.”
A quiet. “Confirm…..call….”
