As in years past, the rush to make Paper Jam happen sometimes means that we miss getting an exhibitor bio up in time for the show. But that doesn’t mean we will forget to highlight any of our amazing exhibitors. Daphne Brophy is a talented young artist who recently graduated from the School of Visual Arts and is already creating unique and visionary work. Her comics present a heat warped alien landscape populated by comical cartoon animals and awash in psychedelic overtones. He prints frequently take risography to an uncomfortable and transgressive edges. Day-glo and black light assisted color schemes melt of the page with the energy and vitality of a Kieth Haring drawing.  I’ve had the good fortune to watch Daphne’s work evolve from her early student days, and I am glad that I have a platform to showcase and creator with such limitless potential with all of you at Paper Jam.

We are psyched to have the Louisiana born, Texas bred, and currently Brooklyn-based artist Krystal Downs for this iteration of Paper Jam. Krystal is a recent SVA grad with a degree in traditional Animation. Krystal is co-hosting our first ever animation screening (along with past Paper Jammer Alex Krokus) and we couldn’t be more excited to be showcasing more moving image work. Visit Krystal for a diverse table of illustration, embroidery, and printmaking.

“With the NY Art Book Fair already two weeks behind us, you should be recuperated and ready to dig into zines, comics, and small press publications once again. Held at the beloved Silent Barn, Paper Jam promises to be especially experimental and local in its offerings (and will have an animation showcase for the first time this year).”

Thank you @hyperallergic!!

Paper Jam 6 Exhibitor 18: Troll Hole

Troll Hole is our friendly neighborhood queer and pro-intersectional store specializing in printed matter of all sorts and adult goods (such as rose quartz kegel balls, silicone enema bulbs, and classic video head cleaners). Troll Hole is located in a laundromat on Knickerbocker Ave right across the street from Maria Hernandez Park, a vibrant new addition to the community. Troll Hole is an artist-run collective that includes Monica Yi, Hayley Blatte, Justin Shock. Silent Barn also houses its share of artist-owned businesses and we’re always excited to promote others (especially politically-minded ones) in Bushwick.
