Something that I love about HG and CoG is that there’s no set way a character has to look, so aside from the concrete details about their appearance, they can morph to fit how you want to see them! Sometimes I’ll see a model on insta or Pinterest and think to myself “hey, they could be C or M or L”, but I don’t have a particular face that comes to mind for any of my characters.

Yes! That is intentional, and is actually going to be kept track of in game. If you choose different names during those two moments- then you’ll be referred to by one name in certain parts and another in others.

I did this for a few reasons. The game focuses a lot on memory and a loss of self. Names have a lot of significance placed on them and losing one to time or crueler forces is... well it’s too late in the day for me to be able to articulate thoughts properly, but to misquote a great fictional character “it’s rough, buddy”. BUT then again, for people who are trans/non-binary/starting over it can also be seen in a more positive light of finding yourself after a long and arduous journey. (What I’m hoping to do is have there be differences in dialogue if you choose different names vs the same. But I still gotta figure out if I can code that correctly so don’t quote me)

MC is a human who has been... let’s say “infected” with magic. Magic in this universe is like an organism in a way. It feeds off of strong emotions and often warps/twists them as a result. This is why there are witch hunters like M because those that use too much magic basically go mad, their strongest emotions and feeling being twisted into something powerful but volitile.

The Witch in game has been more careful than most, binding a lot of her magic into objects or people temporarily to mitigate some of the more negative effects of magic use. The problem is, once bound to something, even if unbound, a trace of magic is always left behind on the object/person. Bind and unbind magic to something often enough, the thing/person begins to have a reservoir of magic they can tap into. Which is, again, dangerous.

In some routes you’ll actually be able to find out what happened to MC’s siblings! Unfortunatelu, they never knew what happened to MC, only suspicions, but they definitely would’ve thrown hands at the witch if given the chance.

Extremely flattered, all of them, but also:

C would dig into the artistic aspect of the drawings as well, they’ve always loved the arts and would ask about the MC’s process and inspiration (besides them), want to know what sorts of materials they used, etc.

M would probably be confused as to how MC managed to fill an entire sketchbook with their face, considering how they often have to be away on jobs, but also offer to be a model for MC anytime they needed.

L would probably already know about this little habit considering how many rests they’ve been around for, but would get a little choked up that MC is still drawing them after all this time.
