blvncollabs

A Vocaloid-themed multimedia BL visual novel fanwork collab.

You’re invited to participate in a collaborative project hoping to bring together BLVN fans across various visual novel fanbases. The aim is to create a multi-fandom collection of fanart and fanfiction made by different users to celebrate their favourite BL visual novels.

In this collab, participants will create fanworks of their favourite games based on Vocaloid music. Chosen songs can be referenced as an overall theme, or just to a specific lyric, or even just to the general aesthetic, and for the BL visual novel there is no limit to which characters, or how many of them, you choose to depict. The theme this time is quite loose, so we want everyone to just go wild and have fun!

For more information about the format of this collab. and how you can take part, please see this page.

Please feel free to send a message via this blog’s ask box, contact us on twitter or join our discord server if you want to know more.

We hope you can join in to make this collab a success!

The optional theme is: ✨ Change ✨

Here’s a few tips and links to get the most out of the jam.

Make a dev log on the community!

A development blog is a blog in which a game developer or team talks about the process they’ve made over the course of the game’s creation. Maintaining a devblog keeps your audience in the know and helps facilitate productivity so you’ll have something to blog about. It also serves as a record of problems you encounter as well as the solutions you find for those problems.

Development logs are essentially the same thing, except we’ll be using the jam forums rather than a blog. However, you are free to use both the forums and your own blog as you develop your game.

Doing so is not necessary at all, but check out all the logs from last jam! In order to get the most out of your jam experience, it is vital that you interact with your fellow jammers and the community surrounding it. They’ll provide valuable feedback and support to help you along the way. So please, we encourage you to mingle, post in other logs, and of course post your own!

In addition, you are encouraged to add images and gifs. Here’s some programs to help facilitate that:

Respect your community!

Take a moment to review our code of conduct. We strive to create a safe, supportive, and productive environment, and we appreciate your efforts to make our community welcoming for everyone!

Post daily updates!

Post screenshots or fun mishaps to your dev log, twitter, tumblr, or your own blog to track your progress and get feedback. Tag your posts as #MyFirstGameJam or #MFGJ10 so other jammers can find your work! To get the most exposure you can also tag #gamedev or #ScreenshotSaturday for Saturdays! Share your work and link back to your devlog to get feedback.

Manage your time and tasks!

We updated our list of useful time and task management tools with tips and ideas for staying on top of your project. Set goals early and keep track of how fast it takes you to reach them!

Use our resources!

Still deciding on an engine? No problem. Check out this post to see what fits your project best or try the sortingh.at!

If you still have questions about the jam itself, take a look at our FAQ!

Join the jam chat!

Want to share your work or ask for help? Or even just take a break from dev? Join discord chat here! (Please note you must be at least 14 years old to join!) Feel free to say hi and share your work! If you need help with a specific skill or engine, you can @Unity or @2D Art to notify mentors. If you think you would like to help other people with some part of games–join us as a mentor! You can get notifications when someone has a question about engines or skills you have expertise in!

Heed advice from previous jammers

This jam we took the time to write up a quick summary of advice from previous jammers: Know how to scope.

Take care of yourself!

Game-making can be exhausting as well as rewarding! You are more important than your work, and we compiled a list of helpful tools for getting the most out of you!

Aaaand good luck!

Game dev can be exciting, frustrating, and extremely rewarding. We hope to give you the tools to help you succeed in your goals in the next two weeks!

Shadow in The Lens: Recleaned Edition Announcement

Shadow in the Lens: Recleaned Edition is a surreal, neo-noir walking/adventure/visual novel style game, inspired by “Paratopic” and David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” and “Mulholland Drive”. Made in RPG Maker VX Ace.

Initially, made in two weeks, for a contest - it is an updated version of the game, containing many improvements, new content and for the first time - an English translation.

  • A short, 45 min to 1h experience
  • A dark, bizarre story, where nothing is as it seems
  • A moody, surreal atmosphere
  • Coffee drinking mechanics
  • Fully original art and soundtrack(composed by Pequod)
  • Available in Polish and English

Screenshots:

I hope, you’ve become interested in the game and will give it a shot when it releases, in a little less than a week!

Also, sorry for posting it on the SpaceSave blog, but the project is too small to make another, whole blog for it, in my opinion.

It’s time for another Dream Diary Jam!

Edit:Jam runs from May 15th, 2020 to June 26th, 2020.  You can join before or during those dates!

Yume Nikki’s 16th anniversary is this year.  To celebrate, we’re hosting a game jam where participants make a Yume Nikki fangame in 6 weeks.  You can work in whatever engine you’d like with however many people you’d like, as long as you turn it in by June 26th, 2020! You can see all the rules (don’t worry, they’re short) here on itch.io. 💕

Here are the currently accepted types of entries:

  • A Traditional Yume Nikki Fangames - These games are just like Yume Nikki, except with different protagonist & worlds and sometimes a few game mechanics changed up. They’re like sequels or spiritual successors to the original game in lieu of an actual Yume Nikki update. Get as experimental as you’d like. Examples of these games include .flow, Yume 2kki, Lcd Dem, and Answered Prayers.
  • An Actual Fangame of Yume Nikki - These games use the characters and setting of the original game and make a new game with them in it. They’re like fanfiction, except with a lot more programming. You can make anything from a JRPG to a dating sim for this one, as long as it features the cast of Yume Nikki. Examples of these games include NASU Plus, Memories of Replica, Dream Kombat, and Yume Nikki Hazard.
  • An update to a previous submission - Did you enter a game in Dream Diary Jam 1, 2, or 3 and want to make an update on it?  Now’s your chance!  You can take this option even if you’ve been working off jam on your game, as long as you provide a substantial update.

We have two OPTIONAL themes this year: Nostalgia and fungi/mushrooms.  You can incorporate one or both of them into your game any way you’d like (as the premise, as the mood, as an effect or world, etc.), or you can choose not to!  Have fun and get creative. c:

Come sign up on itch.io if you’d like to participate & check out the discord if you’re feeling social!  Feel free to send in questions to this blog & on the itch.io page, and have a good time.

See you soon, dreamers!
