Issue 5: Submit Your Jokes!

Hi again!

Another exciting feature we intend to include in Issue 5 is a spread devoted entirely to academic jokes. We would love it if our followers sent their favorite jokes to our submission box – no matter how corny they may be!

We also ask that you submit your jokes in the following format:

Name (what you would like for your official credit) | Tumblr URL
“Your joke! Haha, laughs.”

The EICs will be choosing the best 5 to 10 jokes, so feel free to submit as many as you would like for the chance to be featured in The Academic!

The submission deadline is December 23. Good luck!

Issue 5: Creative Writing Contest

Hello! For Issue 5, we will be including a “Creative Writing” article, where we will use a reader-submitted piece of writing to feature!

That’s right – you get to submit a piece of writing for us to include as an article in Issue 5!

You may be wondering what kind of writing are we looking for. Your writing can be along the lines of a personal story, a poem, studying advice, and anything else that you find fits the criteria!

All information is under the cut.

The Future of This Blog, Honestly.

I wish I still had the patience to make my work look nice for this blog but I'm tired as fuck all the time. My hand is perpetually cramped and my notebooks are ugly... the reality of my study habits is that they no longer suit the "studyblr standard" (aesthetically, anyway) and that's totalllllyyyyy chiiiillllll.

I want this blog to be more than studyspo. Pretty pictures don't motivate me anymore, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. So let's talk about how our work gets done. Let's talk about why we study. Let's give this blog the substance it deserves because I'm not ready to leave this community yet.

I'm excited to give this blog more attention in the future, and I hope you stick around to see what comes out of it.

Thanks for reading. See you soon.

30 september 2016 ~ posted up with a reading about analyzing film music.

i hate trying to digitally annotate poorly-scanned PDFs, so i write notes for my online readings instead. typically these notes include section summaries (in everyday language), definitions/key concepts, and any questions i have about the readings.

hope everyone had an awesome week!

I was on another train yesterday as I took a trip up to Oxford for the university open day. I think I have decided to apply to Keble as it is very close to the chemistry department and the accommodation is very comfortable. I also bought a cute little plant who is now called Cecil.

4/100

Felt kinda off today but I didn’t want that to get in the way of getting stuff done! I started my chem and theory homework, scheduled an appointment, practiced, and worked out at the gym. :)

52/100 Days of Productivity

I dedicated the morning to organizing my study space and the afternoon to math review! Apparently, calculus is a lot easier if you have a solid knowlege of all the math you learned in previous years. I’m reviewing old notes and completing the diagnostic tests in my textbook (to pinpoint my weak areas). I studied for 2 hours using the pomodoro technique so now I’m taking a longer study break. Later tonight, I have an online math quiz to complete and then I’ll get started on my bio and psych readings.

Current Bullet Journal Setup ~ Fall 2016.

The Stationery: A5 Coiled Notebook (Muji). Cacti stickers (Paperchase). Sticky Notes (Indigo). Pens (Papermate, Le Pen, Pilot, Muji, Dollarama).
My Week: On one page I have daily tasks, reminders, and events (as of right now, I don’t journal on weekends). The sticky notes are my workout routines for the week. And the lines on each page aren’t straight because I don’t know how to use a ruler HAHA. I also keep monthly pages for goals, playlists, and budgeting - but those are boring so I didn’t take pictures of them.

It’s a simple setup but I like it. I linked as many of the items as I could for your buying convenience. Hope everyone’s having a great week!!

TAZ Gets Creative! (Contest)

Hello readers! Issue 3 published yesterday, and to celebrate we are going to host our first contest!

Last night, our alum designer Candyce Photoshopped a picture of co-editor-in-chief Edye holding Issue 3 of the magazine rather than her diploma. Edye found this delightful, set it as her Skype profile picture, and brought up the idea of a contest we could host.

As mentioned in our Editors’ Note in Issue 3, from now on we are going to actively seek ways to interact more with you guys. We wouldn’t be doing what we’re doing if not for your support and signal boosting, and you really are the greatest.

Without further ado, here it is: The Academic’s first contest – TAZ Gets Creative!
