Life of an Emirates Stewardess

Its been awhile since I wrote!

I know its been awhile but I was really BUSY BUSY! Hello friends, I know its been so long since I last wrote, but things got soo busy at training college (plus no internet at my place) that made it really hard to keep in touch. But I want to fill you in with whats been going on here in Dubai and working for Emirates <3 Training was really intense and seemed like it was never going to end. First was SEP (safety and emergency procedures) then GMT (general medical training) Security then Service training. I finished it all on Aug 14th :D and it was one happy day. My batch mates and I were thrilled and on the last day we got all of our certifications, we couldnt stop smiling. Dubai has been HOT HOT HOT. Never ending heat. Most of August was quiet for me, because it was Ramadan here (plus training) so it was hard to really enjoy Dubai. I have now started flying yayaya, its the moment all the hard work was put into, all the way from going to the interview. My first supy flights were to PARIS, then ATHENS. Paris was a layover and it's just such a beautiful elegant city. I took many many photos and made some new friends. I must say, this job is not easy, but its a job. And I get paid to travel the world. I feel blessed to be here and to have this opportunity. I still get very homesick but it helps to keep in touch with my family as much as possible (thank God for skype) I will be posting photos of my adventures soon, but for now here is one <3 Sending all my love from Dubai

I am here! in Dubai

Well I made it, my trip started off really stressful, before I even arrived to Toronto, my ride had a flat tire and I was freaking out. But nonetheless I made it to Dubai. The plane ride was nice, although long, I watched Django unchained and some family guy episodes. I slept even though I thought I was going to be too excited to sleep. My apartment is really nice, I am waiting on my roomate, they told me she’d come in today or tomorrow, I have no idea where she’s coming from but I am excited to meet her. I was a lil culture shocked at first, but now its really sinking in, I’M IN DUBAI and I better get use to it. Its ridiculously hot here, I have never felt such heat in my life. I went for an hour swimming/tanning session on my roof and I already have a tan (love it!) I am going out later with a friend that just came to Dubai as well, first time meeting, but I’m sure its going to be fine. I’m just excited to get out a bit, I wouldn’t do it alone though cause I’m a chicken hehe and scared to get lost. I bought some very basic groceries (cheese, milk, oil, eggs, bread, NUTELLA and some water) and it cost about $20 canadian, not bad. Here's some shots of my trip and my apartment :)

1 day left in Canada!

image

Ahhh! 1 day left, I feel like I'm dreaming. After a really busy weekend with the family, I am still getting my life together before I depart. There is post-it notes all over my walls, and my room is a huge mess. I had my teeth whitened today, they are looking extra fabulous lol. I am so excited/sad.... So many different emotions and thoughts running through my mind. I still cant believe Dubai is going to be my new home!

My Accommodation

Image

Well I finally received my accommodation the other day; I will be living in the Al Fattan building, and according to my friend who worked for Emirates, it's one of the best crew accommodations  :D I'm really excited to see my new place. My family has arrived from the States and my sister is home from Toronto, it's a full house and I love it.

A week from today...

image

Yup, a week from today, I'll be leaving my hometown and driving to Toronto, then a taking a direct 13 hour flight to Dubai! I am sooo nervous, but getting excited at the same time. I am going to miss my family and friends tremendously, but I feel ready for this journey I am about to embark.  I am ALMOST done packing; my older sis is coming to visit (she also just got a new fabulous job) along with some family from Kentucky, so this weekend we shall party and celebrate all these wonderful changes we have been blessed with. ♫ MIA - PAPER PLANES

FINAL APPROVAL

YES! I got the Final Approval. I am feeling speechless, it still hasn't hit me that I'm moving to Dubai in 22 days! ahh I don't know if it's because I'm so nervous or the effects of the yellow fever, typhoid or meningococcal shot lol but I'm also feeling a bit sick just thinking about everything. How insane, I am moving to Dubai to be a flight attendant. I'm not sure I realize the kind of life changes I am about to make, WOW is all I can say. Here is what is looks like on the Emirates Candidate portal:

24 DAYS LEFT!

Hello friends, Can you believe I have 24 days left! It took me FOREVER to get my medicals completed (3 weeks and 2 days to be specific) I had some cavities which needed to be taken care of, also I needed to submit additional medical reports from my doctor (I had laparascopic surgery in Jan and they needed to know EVERYTHING!) But I sent them everything yesterday, and received an email saying that they got it all and now to wait for the next step; which is the FINAL APPROVAL. I really hope I get it ASAP because I have 24 days left, and it's very nerve wrecking not knowing for sure. Most people say they wait a week MAX, but a lot of people get the final approval in a couple days of submitting everything they asked for. So fingers crossed I don't have to wait a whole week to find out. I'll keep ya posted :)

35 DAYS LEFT

Just an update with whats been going on, my medicals are taking forever to finish. I should be done everything by next week (fingers crossed) then I can get my final approval. I have had so many mixed emotions about everything in the last couple weeks, as excited as I am, I am also getting a bit sad, I'm going to miss my family and friends so much. Just so many emotions. But this is what I signed up for lol The week of my departure, I will probably be going crazy, I get butterflies thinking about it.

MEDICALS

I am so thankful that I am at this stage, but I have so much to do! and its not cheap either. The yellow fever shot alone is gonna cost me $185, ughhh, buuuut it will all be worth it in the end. I have accepted my contract and uploaded all my documents for security, now I am just working through the medicals. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow, I had my blood work and chest x-ray done today. I had my TB test shot yesterday, after my blood work is sent to my doctor, I will then receive some other vaccines. I feel really anxious, because I am leaving on June 21 (oh yah my DOJ changed  from June 19th) and I just want to get the final approval so I can start to prepare in other ways. So much to do, sooo little time.

(...also, I'm starting to get emotional..... sigh)

Patience

It hasn't even been a week, and I'm going crazy!!

Applying for this job, one will learn how to be patient or simply loose their mind.

I'll stop posting until I hear back from them. But until then, I'll just continue to dream...
