Julie/Luke | 16k | 4/4 - NOW COMPLETE!

Luke should probably look into finding his own place with the frequency he has ended up in LA over the last year, he thinks, as he drops his bags into his room at his parents’ house.
This is his fifth time back in the city. But unlike the other times, this marks the first time he’s back not for work reasons. Instead, he’s in town for what Reggie is calling “The Willex wedding.”
(Yeah, Alex is not too happy about the name.) ---- Or: Luke rights some wrongs, lets go of the past and finally gets the happy ending he deserves.

EDIT: This fic is now complete and it was written for @julieandthephantomsbb this year! It’s a mini bang, so expect over 10k once all chapters are posted. Big thanks to  @itsthebooks for creating such a great moodboard for this chapter!

So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)

Reblog to increase sample size!

Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. That 27 year old guy over there works a job he is overqualified for, he lives with his parents and wants to move out but doesn't know what to do about it. That one 24 year old dude already has a car, a house, and a job waiting for him once he graduates thanks to his dad's connections. The 26 year old barista couldn't complete his higher education because he has to work and take care of his family. The 28 year old girl sitting next to you has no friends to go out with so she is texting her mother. That couple (both 25 years old) are married and the girl is pregnant. The 29 year old writing something on her laptop has realized that she chose the wrong major so she is trying to start all over. We are not alone in this, but we are actually so alone. Do you feel me

I needed this drag. Let’s change guys and not look back

working out your brain is a must!!

• hydrate it by drinking lots of water

• eat dark chocolate and blueberries and walnuts and salmon and other foods high in antioxidants!!

• play little brain games on your phone; I like wordconenct! anything that makes you think!

• read books. It’s simple but necessary. Even better - join a book club, or read with a friend, so you can have discussions after. This will improve your reading comprehension.

• do puzzles - it doesnt have to be sudoku, I love playing Beat Saber on the Oculus Rift because it makes my brain have to match colorful patterns to physical movements very quickly!

• learn a new dance - even a tik tok trendy dance. Learning new dance moves are proven to strengthen synapses!!

• go bird watching, or foraging, or anything outdoors that requires you to explore pattern recognition and visual searching

• watch a movie with the intent of analysis - this is best done with a cinephile friend!! talk about tropes and symbolism and character growth

• cross stitch, or sew, or do anything that requires matching nimble hand movements to patterns

• play or learn an instrument!

• develop a consistent sleep schedule (or as close to consistent as you can get!)

• when eating, try to identify the ingredients and flavors you’re perceiving!

I hope this helps :)

I like how this went from me feeling like “hm why is this attacking me 🤨” at first, but feeling grateful seeing an added guide on a genuine expansion on a “ how to” work out the brain. This genuinely helps a bunch. People find solace in doing activities that get them through life by doing said activities of phone/tv or if that’s all they’ve ever known in their life to get them through things + etc tho. However, this was very impt to point out. Slowly beginning incorporating things to work the brain in ones own time.

I had to mentally send myself a reaction image the other day. I ran up the stairs on all fours, said to myself “i’m such a locationpilled scampercel” and then perfectly envisioned this image

please i've already hurt so much

5 simple exercises to awaken dormant muscles

I appreciate this video a lot--people don't realize how important it is to start slow if you're trying to come back from a completely sedentary lifestyle, and they get really hurt as a result. Straining your muscles too much, too suddenly can land you in the E.R. and the wrong joint injury can permanently affect your mobility, so please start with absolute basics and easy stretches!

I've seen a lot of fics disappear from my bookmarks, some 10+ years old, because they were added to an unrevealed collection. It makes me wonder if people realize what your fic being added to a collection actually means and if the authors approved it automatically without realizing what would happen.

If someone adds your fic to their collection, they can hide it! They can mark the collection as unrevealed and your fic will be unreadable to anyone other than them! If you're writing works for a surprise event, like a Secret Santa, this is really nice.

But if you're just writing and someone adds your fic to a collection for their own personal use and marks it as unrevealed, that. . . really sucks.

I bookmarked this fic in 2017, almost 5 years ago. Knowing me, the fic itself was probably at least a couple years old at the time I bookmarked it.

This is a 5+ year old fic that is completely inaccessible now because it was added to a collection that, as far as I can tell, is literally just for the collection owner's own reference. There's almost 30 fics in the collection, all of them unrevealed.

Please don't blindly accept collection requests and if your works ARE in a collection, make sure that they aren't being hidden without your knowledge or consent.

Are you able to remove a work from collection after you allow it or is it just a story that's just fucked?

Yes, you can remove your works! From the faq:

If you're the creator of the work:
1) Select the "Edit" button from the work's page and scroll down to the "Associations" section.
2) Select the red (×) beside the collection name you want to remove next to "Post to Collections / Challenges".
3) Select "Post" to apply the change. The work will be immediately removed from the collection.

I'm not sure if you get an alert if your fic is marked as unrevealed though, so keep an eye on the collections that your works are part of.

There's also an option in your preferences to accept collection invitations automatically. I would highly recommend making sure that that option is not selected.

I realize this might be a dirty trick pro-censorship fandom harassers might try to pull on some people, so yeah.

Boosting for visibility.

Reblogging to add my periodic reminder that I don’t accept collection requests for my fics, for this and other reasons. Collections are like anthologies. If I write a story specifically for a challenge or collection, then it goes in that collection. Otherwise it’s an automatic no.

It’s worth noting that this stuff doesn’t have to be malicious action from the person who owns the collection. A LOT of people don’t realise that collections aren’t intended to be used as rec lists or personal bookmarks, and therefore don’t realise that making changes to a collection can have this effect on the fic itself. As stated above, the author can fix this IF they notice that it’s happened. If a fic has been orphaned since being added to the collection, or if the author isn’t really active on AO3 anymore, that’s not going to happen.

Wow I didn't know that.
