hello, tumblr! tis i, your friendly broke neighbourhood writer.
after producing hits such as 'My Father Is Abusive and We Need to Get Out from Under His Thumb, Help' and 'My Abusive Father Billed Us the Electricity & Utilities Bill for the Apartment We Can't Live in Anyway, Please Help', i am now back with the latest installment of the Capitalism Sucks series: 'My Art Hangs in the Balance of $20'.
the story is this: two months ago, i won a scholarship for a writing class (specifically children stories writing class) in a prestigious art collective. i enrolled in the class happily, dreaming of publishing the drafts that have been sitting there for year collecting enough dust to kill someone with severe allergies. for the first time in years, this dream feels tangible and within my grasp. the workshop comes with the option of showcasing your final product in a cafe-slash-gallery, which is scheduled for tomorrow (9th of september). finally, i don't have to bother my sister to read the polished version of arabella attempts an amazing adventure. i can just bother gallery patrons, all of whom i plan to hound with a copy of a story about a 10 years old mind-reader who lives in the outskirts of an apocalyptic wasteland and goes on an adventure to look for her father.
yesterday i found out that in order to afford a space at the gallery display, i have to prepare about $25. ordinarily, this isn't a large sum of money, but as we are in the third (and, by god, hopefully the final) installment of Capitalism Sucks, the accumulation of previous financial strains left me unable to afford such amount.
