This Was Supposed To Be Just An Art Blog Whoops

@doriduckdoodles

A girl with no life who loves to draw, play video games and read manga/watch anime.
I meant this to be just an art blog but things happened whoops- Current fandom/hyperfixations: Pokémon, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Red Vs Blue

‼️ Fiction cannot cause physical harm to someone.

‼️ The only person who should have the power to decide if a piece of fiction is harming you emotionally or psychologically is you.

‼️ Any fiction you feel like you are being harmed by you can stop reading/watching/creating it at any time.

‼️ You are always in control when you are consuming or creating fiction.

‼️ Do not surrender the power to decide what fictional ideas might cause you emotional or psychological harm to other people.

‼️ No one will ever know better than you what ideas are harmful to you personally.

‼️ You cannot decide what is psychologically or emotionally harmful to another person.

‼️ Attempting to restrict the kind of fiction that people create or consume because you think it might cause them emotional or psychological harm is authoritarian.

‼️ It is safe to explore any ideas and themes in fiction. Fiction does not and cannot cause physical harm to any person. You are always in control of the fiction you are creating or consuming.

Yeah it is purity culture.

It really irks me when reading if and I see the phrase, “my cheeks redden”… they do not, I’m black 😭

I saw some people had a few questions about alternatives, so I thought I would throw a few out there! In my opinion, here are some ways to portray shyness, attraction, and being flustered without using terms like “turning red” or blushing, as these indicate having light skin or being pale.

  • Averting eyes, or looking askance
  • Feeling your face heat up
  • The term “Visibly flustered”, which can imply a whole lot!
  • Chest thumping, heart fluttering
  • Butterflies in the stomach
  • Peeking through lashes
  • Covering face or mouth with hands

These are just a couple I like to read/use.  It’s good to think about these things so that we have writing that not only doesn’t break immersion, but also writing that doesn’t lean into whiteness as the default.  Hope this helps anyone who might have been curious!

Anonymous asked:

Do you have any advice on drawing halo spartan armour?

Hey there and yes, break down the armor into simple shapes like circles and squares. the original armor is already so complex that you want to simplify it to understand it, then once you have your basics shapes you can add up details.

I guess it also depends for what kind of drawing you want to use it. if its for a simple comic then you want to keep only the most important shapes and keep it super simple similar to what they did in the Fan Guide book. but if its for a painting or more complex piece then you want to observe a lot your reference and add as much details. Draw, draw, draw a lot, make mistakes, practice, keep what works, at lest that’s how i do, hope that helps potato!

Self control levels: 0.

Since I got myself into a new series, I of course had to make an OC (several, actually, that I still need to draw OTL) so this is Aubrey Garcia, resident tomboy bimbo of Red Team.

There’s a lot of issues with this picture looking over at it (proportions are god awful) but for my first time drawing halo-esque armor...It’s not THAAAAAT bad, so I’m content for now. Anyways, I’ll be in Red vs Blue hell if you need me.

Gonna do a bit of following maintenance, mainly cause I can only handle so many global issues on my dash. It's not that I choose to ignore it, it's that I come here to avoid that, this is my safe space and blacklisting can only go so far. So don't be offended if I unfollow, I'm just trying to keep myself in a good place.

Doing this again so don't be alarmed if I unfollow, I'm just cleaning up my dash. Also some changes in fandoms so there's that.

it really bothers me that so many people on this site treat ableism like it’s black and white.

just now i saw a post where op was like “i’m glad that spinners are popular because it normalizes fidgets and decreases stigma” and someone replied like “no!! it’s absolutely TERRIBLE that neurotypicals are using these fidgets because when they get in trouble they make things harder for mentally ill kids!!” and like you guys do realize that? you’re both right? it isn’t a decisive fact that neurotypicals using fidgets is either good or bad, there are both benefits and consequences that need to be taken into consideration.

a few months ago there was a post going around that was like, *neurotypical voice* why are you bouncing your leg, and somebody reblogged it saying that the post was ableist because autistic kids can get overstimulated by leg bouncing. i go to a school for the mentally disabled, and i’ve been in this exact scenario, my classmate wasn’t able to focus because i was bouncing my leg and although i felt bad i told him that i wouldn’t be able to stop for long because i do it subconsciously due to my adhd. he wasn’t being ableist for asking me to stop, and i wasn’t being ableist for saying i couldn’t, we just both had different needs. in the end, our compromise was that i went to work in the computer lab.

you have to understand that there is always more than one side to issues like these, and that we should be striving for understanding and balance over demonization of one side and blind support of the other. this is especially relevant when people on both sides are mentally ill or disabled, because sometimes symptoms will clash and you just need to deal with it.
