#led zeppelin tribute band my mom was friends with (but first i went to not bc someone i knew was going were bent knee)#måneskin#hopefully 100 gecs#my chemical romance#:] Love concerts I have made a habit of driving very long distances in very short amounts of time for them.#i'm not EXACTLY sure yet what my schedule/availability will be but i think i have just a weekend#to drive 500+ miles to a big city for gecs and back.#which should be a pretty neat timeslot if nothing goes terribly wrong. 250 friday / 250 ssaturday / concert sat night / 500 sunday#ez pz#i drove out 2000mi in 4 days to see everything everything because i had opportunity & desire to roadtrip anyway#spent some time in that region then drove 1500mi in 30 hours to get back to local region for maneskin#absolutely entertaining mindmelting and worthwhile#that leg of the journey to maneskin was fueled by 5 1-hour naps and i had a nightmare about crashing my car each time :D#(had only slept ~2hr the night before)#the first 2000 miles included: getting off-schedule because there was such a bad storm the rain made whiteout conditions on the interstate#so i could only go like 60mph while being somewhat optimistic i wouldn't crash#my muffler spontaneously detaching from my tailpipe on a rural gravel road with 1000 miles left to go#and sleep-deprivation-induced hallucinations!! while driving! i found a place to sleep ASAP!!!#the color of the pavement became darker (irl) and my brain (on 2 caffeine pills and all-day gas station coffee) interpreted it as#when a chunk doesn't load in minecraft#i fully believed for 1 second that i was about to drove off the world into the void#then i saw a couple orbs of light so i stopped in a little twilight-zone town with all brick pavement in a region where brick is atypical.#the temperature was 27F at night and had been almost 80F that morning a few hundred miles east#Roadtripping! It's fun 8]#the concerts were excellent btw.

Today marks the one year anniversary that I started planning this crazy Cosplay, might as well share the journey here

After the wild ride that was the game Inscryption, the brain worms took over thinking how could I make a Cosplay with a working screen for a face, no legs, and a crank for a left arm..

Luckily I work in a warehouse and cardboard is of no short supply to mock up potential cosplays, it did help that P03 is very boxy to begin with.

The face and animated light skirt were a whole other nightmare as I've never done anything like it before. I used an old iPad for the face and recreated almost all of P03's facial expressions as loaded gifs. For the led skirt, I used an arduino uno and followed a few tutorial online on how to colour and animate them.

Hope you enjoyed my silly big project and hopefully get inspired to make crazy things of your own this year!!

I looked for the comet at 02:30 EST on 02/03/2023. Honestly unsure if I saw it - squatting on a hillside with a binoculars and stellarium-web.org in my lap, and I triangulated its position between Capella, Muscida (the head of Ursa Major), and Mirfak. According to the star map it’s right over 21 Camelopardalis right now from my location, so maybe they were indistinguishable from each other. And its neighbours seem to align with the quadrant of stars (clockwise: HD 38284, 17 Camelopardalis, 21 Camelopardalis, 31 Camelopardalis ?) forming a squat rhombus I kept landing on when I aimed the binoculars where I thought ZTF would be.

But now it is 03:30 and I’ve been reading about those stars and their apparent visual magnitudes. And I found out that 21 Camelopardalis’s apparent magnitude is 6.86, which is fairly dim and hard to see. I tried finding the magnitude of the green comet and one website recorded 4.4 for today, others were slightly higher so I’m not sure. But it should be brighter than 21 Cam until it runs away. So maybe what I saw was the comet. Or maybe I am full of shit and misread the map and misnavigated the sky. I will be in a darker location before it leaves us so I’ll keep looking.

Regardless!! I did not know any of these stars before tonight. Nor did I know how many more faint stars you can see with binoculars. Next time I am under a dark sky I’ll peek at the milky way through binocs and experience a strong emotion. The temporary resident of our sky has taught me things about the permanent ones, and that’s a worthy gain. n_n

now view on a dark theme for a comet socializing with stars:
