he quirked a brow at his fellow sin , his posture worsening if possible , as he folded his legs together in a criss-cross position , his elbow resting on his knee while he carried his chin in the palm of his hand . it caused him to bend forward even further as he watched merlin speak .
❝ even a BUZZ is worth it . ❞ ( though ban had NEVER stopped at just that ! )
he knew very well what she was implying though he never really made it a habit to remember the morning after drinking himself into a peaceful coma . the times he could remember though … who says he has to OWN UP TO ?

❝ i have noooooo ♪ idea what you’re talking about . ❞

She smirked with a soft huff of amusement as her arms folded loosely beneath her breasts.            “Of course you don’t.”

Their conversation paused for a moment, affable silence falling to fill the space between them. Merlin let it lull for a moment, then cast him a look akin to someone half-scolding a child.

“Shouldn’t you be busy getting ready for that festival the Captain            wanted us all to attend?"

Ostensibly, their presence at the party would put them in place to gather information regarding their mission from the King. But she and Ban were both familiar enough with Meliodas and the rest of their motley crew to know that whatever goal supposedly brought the Sins to the festival was nothing more than an excuse to have a good time.

he laughed, wholeheartedly. or perhaps it was halfheartedly. one could never tell with theknight, but he tried to shuffle up, despite the violent gash that graced his chest. he looked up towards her, eye to eye, heart to dying heart.       ❝ that sounds like a bad thing, coming fromyou. but i guess it’s not so great being associated with me too, huh? ❞
his grin widened and he leaned forward to give her a pat on the head and a kiss on the cheek before collapsing back into the dirt.   ❝ we’re two of a kind, i guess ! but i’m glad you’re here. ❞                               he closed his eyes.

There he went, the only person in the entire world who could get away with touching her so frivolously. She could not help but appreciate the display of affection, even if it was not her typical method.

          “As am I.”

With the green of his eyes hidden, the bright spread of crimson on bare earth and skin drew her gaze. A frown touched her lip then, when he could not see the change. No matter how eagerly he embraced his own demise, Merlin would always be worried. Perhaps he would not return and leave her with a bittersweet isolation. More likely he would revive, as he always had, and the first breath would cut him more deeply than any of the the dozens he would have experienced in the meantime.

“I am to let you go again, then?”

❝   nishishishi.   i’ll be back whether you want me or not. you don’t have to wait, but we’ll see each other again anyways ! ❞       he grinned, his smile bright and cheery. he always looked happy when he died. he hated when people mourned him. there was nothing to mourn. his deaths were meaningless.
if people could smile at him as his life ended, he would be happy. if they could truly grin and say goodbye, meliodas, i hope you don’t come back this time, then that would be all he wanted.  he always came back though.       his life didn’t end when he died.

He was good at hiding. So much so that even though Merlin knew what aches must be lurking in his heart during this exchange, she could not catch even a flicker of them through his lies. Then again, perhaps they were not complete falsehoods. It was true that he would always revive. His humor about it, however... it could not be genuine.

“You’re fortunate that I haven’t grown tired of you yet.”

And lucky, too, that his endless resurrection had not yet gone on longer than she could dodge real death.

❝ as long as you’re still alive, then it doesn’t matter what happens to me. ❞   he grinned, that cheeky little smile that he always presented in times like these.   the demon was used to death, anyways. he could die again– it didn’t matter. he would come back, like he always had.   as long as she was still alive                                                                     he would be fine.

@nonavalon // starter call

“Doesn’t it? And who said anyone would sit and                      wait for you every single time?”

It was a question that was wholly rhetorical -- he meant more to her than she would willingly up and abandon without good reason. Both of them did, even if it had been some time since she’d spoken to Meliodas’ better half. But still, how presumptuous of him!

Avatar
…Hmmmm.” Sadly, she wasn’t familiar with the currency or value of what dragons’ bones would be here. But she did take care of pretty huge beasts…
Well! Start high and haggle down, I guess!
Image
“How about…ten thousand?”
Image

She fired back with nary a moment of hesitation.           “Seven.”

In truth, even the original offer was not at all a bad price. However, more coin saved was... well, more coin saved. These funds flowed from Merlin's own pocket, not that of the kingdom she presently served.

the immortal sin made a prompt release of musical laughter , ruby colored eyes following the shape of her body as if he was expecting some kind of swift sneak attack —— but he should start to expect  B E T T E R  by now , merlin would not grant him his wish of battle .

❝ are you saying that DRINKING myself under the table is doing nothing ? you ooooobviously ♪ don’t appreciate a nice ALE . ❞

She waved a careless hand, now turning bodily to face him.

“There’s not much value in booze when an entire bar’s stock            produces no more than a little buzz.” Her body’s capacity for alcohol was one of the few secrets Merlin had not kept from the rest of the Deadly Sins. She did not often try to drink herself into a stupor -- surely she would be unpopular with the local barkeeps if she cleaned out their shelves and cellars on a regular basis.

“In any case,” she continued, “drunk people fall for tricks.”

❇|| “Hmph.” She didn’t press the issue any further, a woman must have some secrets about her after all. “A master of magic.” She replies back in a bold tone. Even if she too had things she has yet to learn, she was too deep in her craft to simply claim herself as a ‘student’ any longer. The elder witch places her hand upon her hip as she studies the younger. She was strong— for a mage.
“What brings you here?”

“Curiosity, more than anything. However, I am searching for            a certain technique on behalf of a friend.”

Although Merlin did not recognize the magician across from her, she clearly possessed a fair share of power. This was a person she would behoove herself to stay in good graces with. And, if fate favored her, someone she could get something out of.

Image

She neither mocked nor quite asked seriously as she spoke to suggest:           “Perhaps a master could provide a little guidance.”

a LONG , muscular back was slouched over into itself —— a smirk playing on those frequently blood stained lips as he looked at his fellow sin while her back was turned to him , this almost unimpressed look in his eyes despite the shit eating grin . ❝ why don’t you stop playing hard to geeeeet ♪ , ❞ he began , gathering as much of her attention as he could possibly get from across the room . ❝ and let me fight you . ❞

She meets his eye with a sidelong gaze, chin tipped slightly back so she can look down her nose at him. Her shoulders barely shift to accommodate the turn of her head, and so her gaze is but a glancing one that does not quite connect with Ban’s own.

“Not all of us have the luxury of doing nothing all day, you know.                   I’m a busy woman.”

He sat up groggily, rubbing his head.
“Dinna know why ‘m on th’ flooooor.  Dinna remember what I was deein…Dammit~”  He blinked, trying to remember if the dark haired girl was familiar.  It seemed like she should be…but…
“Dinna know why I ken yer name, either. Ye look like some kinda vagabond or somethin’ though.  Ugh, my head hurts like heeeell. ♫”

However, even as he spoke he felt the pain slowly ebbing away.
“Did we get caught fer something?  Are we in jail?  Ach, if ye made me get caught…”
Crimson eyes darted around, trying to discern their surroundings.

“Can’t get caught if you don’t have anything to get caught for.            Maybe you're a delinquent, but I would never get in trouble for doing bad.”

She was not a vagabond, and much too clever to incriminate herself when she did do something untoward anyways.

The girl crawled to her feet unsteadily, using the support of a stool nearby her to pull her weight up. Her vision swooped and blurred before her, and she clutched the wood to stabilize herself. It bothered her to realize how helpless she was at the moment. But, hopefully, figuring out where on earth this place was would make her slightly less vulnerable.

When everything stopped moving funny, she looked around at their surroundings. From what she could see of the building she and this Ban boy had woken in...

“I think we’re in a bar.           But I’ve never drunk anything alcohol before, let alone passed out because of it.”

Part of why Merlin sometimes seems so detached, even callous with the way she experiments with / uses her magic is because of how she responds to novelty in general. The same moment she becomes aware that she can do something, she itches to do it. When an opportunity presents itself, only dire circumstance or pressing priorities can stay her. Once she knows how a certain spell or piece of magic works, the desire to use it recedes.

The days of wicca were long past & it was rare to meet any ‘maiden’ who still dabbled in the arts. Violet eyes linger over the other female momentarily, seemingly unimpressed. “And you are?”

"An avid student of magic. That is identity enough, wouldn’t you say?” She wasn’t fond of revealing any more than what was needed to get her point across.

“It seems appropriate that the question should go both ways.”

Starter for Bri’s Shin-Ah

No… Shin-Ah wasn’t convinced at all. She couldn’t see it, but his eyes were narrowed into a glare by now. Though the part about having little to go on was believable, if she truly was from foreign lands. Though… why would a scholar want to learn about the dragons, when they were mostly just legends to people?

… Your words are not too convincing… Why would a scholar… want to learn about us..?”

Shin-ah never let go of his sword, taking a couple steps back out of caution. If she really was planning something like he’d assumed, the blue-clad deity wouldn’t hesitate to at least try and fend her off. He knew that more than anything, his comrades needed to be kept safe. A low growl soon rumbled past his lips, gripping the hilt a bit more tightly.

Image

Is this truly… just curiosity? A sorceress… wanting to learn about the four dragons? I won’t… hesitate to chase you off… if I find that you are lying.”

She did like to lie, or at least to conceal any information about herself that was not necessary to know. More often than not, the lingering sense that she kept secrets lead others to mistrust her in some way. However, she had the opposite problem with this dragon. The explanation she gave was whole and unedited -- what she told him was genuinely all there was to it. And yet he still had no confidence in her truthfulness. Despite the inconvenience, Merlin appreciated the irony.

“As I said, I am a scholar of magic, specifically. The off chance that dragon warriors existed, or that there were, at some point, real-life counterparts who inspired the abilities described in the legend, is too enticing for my curiosity to pass up.”

Image

“Shin-Ah,” she spoke the name he’d communicated earlier, “from what I understand, I would be foolish to attempt to harm any one of the dragons.”

Imitate Meliodas?

       “How embarrassing.”

She clasps her fingers behind her head, elbows spread wide to the side as she leans back. For a moment she considers casting a glamour to take the mimic further-- then again, no. This is undignified enough as-is.

“Nishishi, I’m not sure what responsibilities or feelings are,        but they sure sound like a pain! But hey-- Her eyes spring open, and her lips form a grin that’s somewhere in between genuine and playfully mocking, as if she’s about to launch a terrible punch line.       “--melodrama’s a good enough substitute, right?”
