Suzanne Collins watching her books become popular and get movie adaptations and witnessing people embrace and love the hunger games just like the people in the Capitol. 

Suzanne Collins: Clearly, you bitches didn’t get the message. Y’all suppose to be horrified and disgusted by the hunger games not get excited about them. This is not some fun tournament. This is not the Triwizard Tournament. This is not a game. She goes off to write Songbirds and Snakes. I’ll show you exactly how you became just like the Capitol citizens. 

People reading the new book: This book is boring. The hunger games are boring. It just doesn’t have the excitement it had in the original trilogy. Why not give us a prequel about Haymitch’s hunger games. Where is the pageantry and fun. 

Suzanne Collins: YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO LOVE THE HUNGER GAMES. Seriously, what do I have to do to get that message across. We are all doomed.

Can we just appreciate the FACT that Peeta loved Katniss with no expectations. He wasn't like I love her, so she should love me back. He didn't do all those things and risk his life and protect her,because he wanted to get something in return. He just wanted her to be happy even if that meant she was with someone else. He admired and loved her for who she was, and expected nothing from her. I STAN

i have a theory that i’m sure many of you share. i think katniss is related to one of the members of the covey through her father, most possibly maude ivory. some friends and i have worked thoroughly to collect some evidence, and this is what we have stumbled upon!

  1. katniss’ father knew how to sing, and pretty nicely. his voice was described as beautiful, so beautiful even the mockingjays stopped to listen. that’s one of the reasons katniss’ mother fell in love with him, and katniss herself inherited his talent for singing.
  2. katniss’ father loved mockingjays, and she did too—she became the mockingjay herself.
  3. katniss’ father knew a lot of songs: not only the hanging tree, which was forbidden, or deep in the meadow—which became a famous lullaby, but a lot more. maude ivory, who could learn a song in one hearing, probably passed down these songs. the covey couldn’t perform anymore, and even though the district knew deep in the meadow, and some other people the hanging tree, i’m not sure other lucy gray songs were famous. but katniss’ father knew a lot of songs somehow.
  4. in fact, katniss and mr. everdeen wrote their own songs too! a family talent, maybe?
  5. also, katniss was said to be able to learn a song in one or two hearings when she was younger— just like maude ivory. this is just too coincidential.
  6. mr. everdeen knew of the lake, the same lake the covey, snow and sejanus spent time in, with the same house. said lake was very deep into the woods, not many people could have known about it. her father told katniss that he had found it while hunting—but he could easily have lied. if only the covey knew about this lake, then why did katniss’ father know about it too? also, after all of the districts were fenced, no one dared to go that deep into the woods except him, i’m sure of it.
  7. the everdeen family house was at the edge of the seam, next to the meadow, the same location of the covey house.
  8. also, there’s the physical resemblance: the brown hair, for example.
  9. mr. everdeen named her daughter katniss—a plant that existed in the lake. moreover, the only location that we’ve been able to see the katnisses in is the lake.

It’s been said before, but I am all for the idea that, to Snow, Katniss Everdeen was Lucy Gray Baird rising up from the dead to haunt him.

This small, dark-haired Seam girl, making a scene at the reaping. Drawing the Capitol’s attention in the parade, and in the interviews, and with her training score. Haunted by tragic love as she enters the arena. Singing to Rue as she dies, and adorning her body with a rainbow of flowers. Cheating the Games to bring her and Peeta out alive.

And then - unwillingly - figureheading a revolution. Being hailed the mockingjay - the very thing that Snow so hated, that he so passionately wanted destroyed. Refusing to relinquish her own agency, refusing to play the Capitol’s game by its rules. Singing The Hanging Tree, by the lake. Dancing with Prim at Finnick and Annie’s wedding, spinning around the room to folk music.

It must have felt, to Snow, like Lucy Gray (and a little of Sejanus) reincarnated - Lucy Gray, coming to haunt him. Coming to destroy his empire from beyond the grave. Taking her revenge, after all those years.
