for all the times it seemed that others found wriothesley to be sly and untrustworthy, neuvillette failed to see the truth behind those words. a simple oversight, perhaps, but one that was no doubt damaging, no matter how much the duke tended to ignore their words. even now as he relayed his feelings, attempting even to assuage his doubts, the iudex couldn't help but find him exceedingly sincere despite the tension he bore, likely wondering if he would ever reciprocate such ardent affection in the same way he'd professed it. the truth was that despite his usual eloquence and decorum following most situations he was entrusted to handle, this was entirely out of his wheelhouse. even if he desired a more intimate relationship with the duke, he felt himself entirely detached from what that implication truly meant. would he be able to give wriothesley what he wanted out of this new relationship? of that, the chief justice was wholly unsure. a simple, cordial relationship he'd maintained over the years was something entirely different than what they now expressed they both wished to pursue, and it had been quite some time since neuvillette could say he felt such a strong pull toward another.

before he knew it, there had been a longer pause between wriothesley's most sincere promise and a timely response which would have surely eased his nerves. it wasn't without cause though, given that he was entrusted wholeheartedly with these precious feelings from someone whose presence he felt secure within. truthfully, the whirlwind of emotions this man managed to stir in him were exactly those which he struggled to express, but there was simply no shortage of warmth blooming throughout his body when he kissed his knuckles. such a complicated thing love could be.

' i.. ' a sharp breath was inhaled as he desperately wished to compose himself. surely the iudex of fontaine whose renown was so widespread because of his impartiality and steely expression in the face of many difficult cases could keep it together in a situation like this? it was difficult— as much as he wanted to, it was as if all the words he'd ever known simply failed to present themselves on his tongue. with a long exhale, neuvillette decided to allow his own candid response to shine through. ' please do not misunderstand— i do not need any more time to deliberate. in fact, i do not need to deliberate at all. i came to see you today to make that clear, but your candor has left me quite stunned to say the least. '

—that much was evident in the way the rosy color had left neither his cheeks or the tips of his ears, but neuvillette thought it best to be honest so that his intentions were not misconstrued.

' i'm afraid that even with some experience in the past, i cannot promise to know how to proceed, but i can promise that i will try. you are worth that much and so much more to me. ' & a slight maneuver would have their fingers laced together, the depths of the primordial sea staring perhaps a bit too genuinely back into those beautifully frigid eyes.

As patient and calm as Wriothesley attempted to look so as not to put any pressure on Neuvillette, there was no denying the tension that settled into his body as he waited for a proper answer. He was serious that there would be no hard feelings between them if he was ultimately rejected, but that didn't mean it wouldn't sting like hell when he'd made the effort to rip apart his own chest and lay his heart out bare for the Iudex to see and judge as he saw fit.

In the end, Wriothesley knew they were very different people from very different worlds. Where Neuvillette could bask in the light as a symbol of justice for all to see, Wriothesley's place was in the shadows dealing out punishments in a fortress that would never see the sun. Where Neuvillette was always going to be seen as a warm, beautiful, noble soul, Wriothesley was the cold, intimidating, ruffian many would seek to avoid when he walked down any street in the Court of Fontaine because everything about him screamed danger. On paper they just weren't compatible in the eyes of the public but Wriothesley wanted in ways he could not satisfy if their relationship remained friendly at best or professional at worst... and then he got his answer, and the tension would ease, and Wriothesley felt himself wanting so much more as the Iudex intertwined their fingers and let him know that for once in his miserable life he was actually wanted back.

"I know you said you were speechless but did'ja really have to take me down with you?" Any usual instinct to never break eye contact flew straight out into the sea as Wriothesley's intense gaze faltered and he felt his ears and neck going hot in the face of a reality he couldn't have actually seen for himself. Neuvillette actually wanted him, Neuvillette valued him, Neuvillette felt he was worth something.

"Fuck." He swore under his breath, squeezing tightly where their hands were so incredibly intertwined. "You've done so much for me, seen so much in me that nobody else bothered to glance twice at. You-... I don't think there's anything you could do to change how I feel so if we've gotta go in blind here and figure it out that's fine with me. Any way you try is fine with me. The fact you want to at all is-... it's already worth more to me than you can imagine."

The truest Neuvillette 🤝 Zhongli moment is how people in the fandom continue to erase their friends and personal growth and how they have put in the effort to find places for themselves and grow love for their people by reducing them to "unga bunga dumb aggro man fixed by woman and nobody else has ever mattered to them ever" kinda bullshit

'I suppose that's the best way to go about it, if you're really wanting to experience everything as deeply as you should in another country. It's nice to hear that you were able to have an enjoyable time anyways.' Kimiko wonders when the last time she's done that is, really; she's mostly stuck to Liyue Harbor outside of a few commissions, and she's never really taken that much time off. Perhaps she should, and she has Zhongli to thank for inspiring that desire... At least to a certain degree.

'I've heard about Sumeru. I've always been interested in the library and academy there, though I know it's a bit... mysterious. I'm not sure if they're receptive to outsiders.' That doesn't necessarily mean she'd stop trying, but she does wonder. 'Inazuma does seem to be calming down, at least a bit. I've thought about going back home myself.' As complicated as that might be. 'Who are those connections you speak of? I didn't know you knew anyone there.'

"Ah." Perhaps he had said too much already without catching himself. While he was not fond of lying it would not be wise to state outright he is most acquainted with the Electro Archon or her familiar, Guuji Yae, however...

"Well, throughout my time in Liyue Harbor I have met many travelers from various nations. Some by happenstance as I am out running errands for Director Hu or Dr. Baizhu, some at the markets selling their wares that I find particularly interesting, and some who have sought me out as a consultant or guide for my knowledge in various subjects. Not all connections have turned to friendship, I have even had some which were left in quite a sorry state, but I do not believe I would be unwelcome were I to pursue a conversation with some of these people in Inazuma."

nothing is said from her as the other speaks , a neutral expression always on her face as she politely stands there , blinking up at the other . "" no need to apologize , i would have appreciated had someone done the same for me . "" but then again , had that happened , said someone would have been greeted with a small glare ( how she hated unnecessary conversations --- she even pondered for a few minutes if she were to tell the man of the feather or not ) .

by his clothing , lynette had already deduced he had to be someone of importance in the nation of wind ; but now she is sure he is more than just a knight --- perhaps a captain ? head tilts , looking at him up and down as she tries to take a guess . hmm , better keep the information coming , she supposes . "" lynette . may i know yours , as well ? ""

"Kaeya, and it's a pleasure to meet you Miss Lynette." The Cavalry Captain responded in kind with a hand over his chest and a polite bow of his head. In many cases a proper Ordo salute would be the proper course of action, but such stuffy formalities were never really Kaeya's style and something about the girl's keen gaze had him far too curious to put up anything but a more casual front.

"I find myself a bit worried seeing a charming young woman traveling all on her own- not to say Mondstadt is unsafe or that you seem incapable, but what brings you to Mthese parts? Seeing the sights? Visiting a friend? I do so hope you haven't found yourself lost in any way."

One of the benefits to uninterrupted time with his lover was getting to be affectionate with him whenever the mood struck at any time of day. Getting to see Zhongli through every part of his day, from waking up until they laid down for the night and Childe fell asleep in his arms. And right now Childe was watching his lover prepare for bed, slipping into silken clothes, letting the long golden strands hang down his back; the subtle intimacy of the brief period of domesticity for them was going to stick with Childe for a long time after he left Liyue again.

Though the silk fabric hid Zhongli's slender waist from view, the Harbinger very much knew it was there and didn't hesitate when the urge struck to let both hands rest on Zhongli's hips and squeeze hard as he pulled the former Archon back a step so their bodies could be pressed together. Lips sought out the unblemished skin on the consultants neck, peppering gentle kisses in no discernable path, simply giving his lover affection because he wanted to.

"You know, for as much as you like to mark me up, it's a shame they don't last long on you."

Pausing at the base of Zhongli's neck, Childe didn't wait for a response before lips parted wide enough to let teeth bite and clamp down on his lovers skin for a long moment. His teeth would never be sharp enough to pierce like Zhongli's fangs so easily could, but Childe could still leave a mark on the skin and suck an additional one beside it for good measure. Even if Zhongli's normal clothes would conceal the mark from everyone else, the two people that mattered would know that it was there, that Zhongli was Childe's just as much as the other way around.

"Doesn't mean I can't still mark you as mine too."

Avatar

Casual intimacy was the thing Zhongli had come to crave most any time Childe was away for long periods at a time. There was much to enjoy about their other activities they'd often get up to, but the ease of seeking each other's touch and to be enveloped in familiar scent and warmth was a treat unlike any other, which is why Zhongli so easily melted into Childe's hold, content to press back against his chest and be held as his young lover peppered kisses along his skin.

Of course, naturally, his rascal often had ulterior motives in mind and before he could so much as take a breath to form a response he felt teeth clamp down at the junction where his neck met his shoulder. "Ajax!" He'd gasp at the unexpected turn of events, but surprise would ease into mirth as he'd let slip a content chuckle once Childe voice his reasoning for the sudden sting of a a bite that unfortunately would not be a mark left for very long.

"Whether I am marked or not, I remain yours regardless. I, however, cannot complain about your dedication to this display. It is rather enjoyable to be desired." For centuries- for millennia- he has known worship and praise and adoration, but so few times has he been coveted in such a way. So few times has he been able to turn in his lover's arms and see a fiery passion in their eyes that burned wholly and solely for him.

"If it brings you enjoyment and comfort, you may mark me as you please." Zhongli continued, an arm lazily resting over Childe's shoulder as the other tangled into his messy orange locks. "But one should expect the same in return."

By now it was too late to ask himself what he was doing here, but Dan Heng still found the question rattling around in his head regardless as he stood before the statue in Scalegorge Waterscape which eerily mirrored his visage. There was so much history here, so much he still felt the pressure of that he for so long tried to avoid, but it was quiet here- secluded- the perfect place for another meeting with that man who's haunted him in every conceivable way.

"I'm surprised you actually came." Though he had no intentions to use it his fingers found themselves gripping Cloud-Piercer just a bit tighter as a precaution when he heard footsteps approaching from behind. There was no need to turn and confirm who it was because the hairs he felt standing on the back of his neck could only confirm that it was that particular gaze settled on him now- one he had become far too familiar with but in a way that was not so familiar as it had once been.

"I have a question for you, one you may not like but it felt like something I should ask in person." Only now would a glance be cast over Dan Heng's shoulder, curiosity getting the best of him about whether or not his current company would react. Honestly, he didn't even know what answer he wanted out of this question or what it would mean to him, but it was something that plagued him ever since he regained more of his memories and pieced together the identity of the man with the beastly eyes who once used to regard him a very different way.

"I know we aren't... them... not anymore... but, do you still think about him? Outside of the mess that was caused which lead to where we are now. Outside of the price we must pay for those past sins."

"Ah, is there?" Sure enough a quick examination of his clothing came up with the culprit, a feather lodged just inside the cuff of his sleeve that looked entirely out of place with his outfit. With a quick pluck it was sent fluttering off on the wind, The Cavalry Captain meeting his helper with a charming smile.

"The friendly little bird I'd stopped to chat with on my walk earlier must've left that behind and it might've become an embarrassing sight if I'd walked around with it stuck to me all day without noticing. Oh, how it would wound the pride of any knight to be seen as so unobservant and on top of that the color was rather ill-suited to me. Orange clashes so awfully with blue... but you have my gratitude, young lady! Might I, perhaps, know the name of my savior to thank you properly?"

continued from ( here ) for diluc + @inanthesis

now that was more like it. after promptly asserting himself into diluc's affairs, he felt that going into more detail was the least alhaitham could to remedy the simple offense of irritating him by skipping the most basic of introductions. in fact, he was quite surprised to see a rather charming smile gracing his lips as he recounted his findings about the city of old mondstadt. it had been quite some time since he'd last been there himself, and diluc found that he did not miss it as much as he had when he was younger and filled with much more zeal for exploration than now, all things considered. from what he remembered of his brief time traversing sumeru, and even shorter time spent in the desert, he was right in that the ruins here were far less complicated, but perhaps that was for the best. it was quite concerning to imagine any number of brave drunkards wandering around the old ruins only to find themselves a victim of a more complex ruin machine.

the young master's arms folded patiently over his chest, deciding that the conversation had become sufficiently more palatable with the sudden change in the scribe's expression. ' i'm curious about the verdict you've reached on that. would you say that my adversaries hold a candle to the true product? '

"Well, to be honest, since my experiences purchasing the wine were through vendors already stationed in Sumeru, I felt that now would be the best time to do a proper taste test so that I might be able to answer that question more thoroughly. After all, it's best to be certain that the control variable has undoubtedly come from the original source and how better to do that than to come to Dawn Winery myself and speak to the man in charge." Alhaitham explained with a casual shrug of his shoulder. Unfortunately he couldn't be entirely certain that any so-called dandelion wine he's had previously was authentic, and to show his seriousness on this matter he already reached into the pocket at his back to produce his Mora pouch, holding it up for Diluc to see.

"I am, of course, willing to pay as I'm well aware you have no obligation to let me sample your wine without proper monetary compensation. Any subsequent talk of illegal business happening in Sumeru I'm willing to offer freely as having your insight may help me take the case to the Matra with more information."

Golden hues look to the piece of Mora in the others gloved hand. He thought for moment as they shifted back the glitter mora inside of the fountain. There would be no harm in accepting the small gesture from the other as he gentle takes it from the others hand. "Thank you...I will decide what to do with it at a later time." How odd he too wore gloves. Another similarity between his archon and this sovereign. "It is true we Adepti wish nor need little. But even one as myself wishes for something." He would never speak what it was out loud. He did not want to seem ungrateful.

He tucks the piece of Mora into a small bag that was hidden in his waist belt. He was ready to leave for now.

"I do not wish to linger longer than needed....there are still mortals left in the plaze...I do not wish to inflict them harm being closer than I need to." Even with the medicine he took regularly and the now real vision lingering on his arm he still feared for the safety of those who were not protected by a vision themselves.

Though the small ones who wandered around seem very unaffected by him. "The little ones...they are new. I heard one of them refer to themselves as a ... Mel...o-zine?" He struggled with their name. He did not mean any disrespect he just did not think he heard them addressed correctly.

"Melusine." Neuvillette gently corrected, waving for Xiao to follow him so that they might set off toward their destination.

"I was the one to introduce them to the Court of Fontaine not long after I became the Iudex over four hundred years ago. Their integration was... complicated to say the least but now I have been assured by a trusted companion that they are cherished members of society. It doesn't keep me from worrying over them but they are incredible creatures with incredible sight and highly perceptive natures. Many have even chosen to go through the rigorous training to join the Marechaussee Phantom, an elite detective force which operates directly under me." His pride was apparent, Neuvillette even donning a soft smile as Blathine skipped by with a friendly wave.

"If you have a chance before you leave I do recommend speaking to one of them. Any Melusine will immediately impress you with her diligence and sense of justice, but be aware that you must treat them with respect- not that I believe you would disrespect them on purpose. There are laws in place to protect them, and many would be quite displeased- including myself- were any of these lovely girls to become upset."
