“Nonbinary people don’t owe you gender neutrality” means “nonbinary people can have full beards and look 110% masc and not tuck and still be nonbinary” just as much as it means “nonbinary people can have long hair and wear makeup and have boobs and still be nonbinary”

Nonbinary does not mean “feminine lite” it means “nonbinary”

This post was specifically aimed at the INTENSE double standard within the community.

I can’t even think of a fluffy way to say this but if a nonbinary person is masculine presenting without being gnc in some way, they’re thrown under the bus. By transphobes, by allies, by the community. 99% of comments or replies to a post about nonbinary gender presentation are always some flavor of “let nonbinary people be feminine” Which is good!

But when every discussion and every post and every media portrayal is “feminine person that wears fancy makeup and either binds or wears sports bras” it’s a problem!!! Just get it out of your head that nonbinary is “woman lite” or “gender neutral afab” or “masc but only if they’re super gnc about it”

To me, what really separates Chocolate Guy from all the other “surprise it’s a cake” people is…. I want to eat his stuff. It’s not foam-cake covered in fondant, it’s sixteen kinds of chocolate over delicate wafers and juicy compotes and mousse-you-can-feel-by-seeing and I Want To Eat It All. (Like, I might feel bad taking a bite out of, say, his beautiful telescope, but if I had the chance I would be all over it.)

These mushrooms? I’d pop like six of them if given the chance.

I never wanted to eat anything more…

Give me the shroom!

No ones asking you to go outside and make out with a wasp or become the worlds #1 wasp advocate we’re asking you to stop making “death to all wasps” and “wasps are evil” into a personality trait because, for people like me, who do work with and care about these creatures and their importance public perception is so incredibly interlinked with conservation

“Save the bees” for example, is incredibly popular but public is almost entirely applied to the European Honey Bee, a commercial species that is farmed by humans and therefore has the benefit of human protections. The bees actually dying out big time? Native bees. Unsurprisingly the commercially beneficial honey bee often directly competes with native bees, harming their populations, and those native bees (which are often solidary species) don’t get the benefit of human care. But most people aren’t thinking about the native bees when they want to help, because they don’t even realize that the bees really struggling are ones that buried 3 feet in dirt and not the cool honeycomb building ones.

Wasps? Who have an actively harmful, negative stereotype where people hate them because their “big mean bully bugs”? do you think they’re getting researched? Funding for conservation? You think people are looking to donate to campaigns that focus on helping obscure wasp populations? Research for obscure flies? Tracking parasite populations? No. You can’t even make a positive comment on social media without getting a literal hoard of people telling you how much you need to know that they personally hate wasps and will kill on sight. The research done for these species that people hate so much? It’s usually done by a literal handful of people.  People who like bugs and wasps aren’t asking you to be their best friend and invite them over for tea. We’re asking that people remove this public, widespread unfounded hatred for an entire group of species, a species group so diverse some people think it might actually outnumber beetles, so that people who do care about them can.

you don't have to like wasps to respect them. there are over 30,000 species of wasp, all of which play a vital role in their ecosystems - yes, including yellowjackets and paper wasps, which hunt pests and are smart enough to recognise faces. they aren't evil, or mean, or bastards, or particularly out to get you, they're bugs, and calling them evil has a very real effect on wasp (and invertebrates as a whole) conservation - just google the Jaw's Effect.

Why is it that when charismatic megafauna cause harm or death to humans its brushed off as an accident, something the animal had no control over? "The shark just mistook him for food, the bear was just protecting her cubs." Yet, when a smaller, less adored creature causes harm to humans, say, a wasp, it then becomes about the moral character of a creature that has no concept of morality to begin with? It's almost never "the wasps were just defending their nest", it's "I did nothing and the wasps stung me!! Wasps are evil!!"

Funny, how that works, really
