Childe called for her as he approached with fast steps; there was a little box in between his fingers carefully wrapped with a pastel blue ribbon decorating it. “Sorry about the delay, work got me busy the last days of the year, but... Happy Holidays!”   Ah, completely unaware of her situation, Tartaglia had not only approached her carelessly, but was now extending a present towards her; inside  ——if she were to receive it—— she would find a hair pin with the exact design of the flowers she used to adorn her hair with.   “I hope you like it, took me some time to find the right person who could make it just right”.

Xiao stayed quiet looking at her as she replied. Had anything happened in the period they haven’t spoken? He was aware of how this place played with people’s memories, but he didn’t know there was an even more negative effect about the whole situation.     Foolish girl.    How did she forget about everything? It was beyond frustrating and the adepti was having a hard time sympathizing with the situation.    He sighed, memories or no memories, his word was still as solid as ever.    “Look, this city is an odd place; if you ever feel in danger or need help, call my name and I will be there. My name is Xiao”, he introduced ( again ).    “How... how long have you been in DC?”

“That’s nonsense, Sophie, you are quite the company if I say so myself”, Howl said dismissing her description of themself. He had met a lot of people through his years here in Washington and while he had matched with some interesting and entertaining crowds, no one had been as engaging as Sophie for some odd reason. Howl felt an inevitable connection with her, as if they had met before.    His dreams about her still caused confusion, but he was determined to understand the meaning behind them. “You are a beautiful and smart girl; I am definitely intrigued to know more about you, that’s for sure”, Howl grinned. There was a moment of fluttering warmth in the air after his words and right before he brought up the topic of her dress. “You have talented hands, it is a gorgeous dress”, the wizard added with a little smile.

“Definitely, I will try to find it before the holiday season is over; I am trusting these days’ magic for some inspiration to find the charm”, he grinned. In fact, if he could find it before Christmas, it would be great; Howl had a feeling that it could be a fun and nice little present. “Excellent! What I need is a black top hat, maybe with a gemstone on the side... what do you think? Would it be too much? I want to add my own personal touch to such a classic”, he explained. “Ah, I can come over this week for measurements, as for the design...”, Howl searched for something in his pockets until he finally pulled out a folded sheet of white paper, extending it to them. “It’s just something that has been in my mind for a while”. The design was a large coat that worked in fact as a cape with a pattern consisting of pink and blue diamond shapes. “Take as long as you need, I would not trust anyone else to tailor that for me”, he admitted.

Howl smiled and opened the door for her while offering his arm for them to hold. “Well, you will probably have to extend the closing hours, darling, because I will be stealing you from this place every now and then. There is so much to see out there”, he said with the smile widening. “Ready and excited”, he finalized before they started walking towards their destination.

“OH! Okay, yeah, that’s great then”, Itto laughed heartedly, glad that there were no bad intentions involved. His confidence always a bit too high, caused him to pat the woman’s back in some sort of camaraderie; but his hand was probably a little too big and a little to heavy for a simple and friendly pat  ( he tended to forget about his size ).   “Okay so...”, he began while walking backwards towards the box, “I already paid for the ticket so you just gotta pick one from the box and if we get the winning number, I get the prize”, he explained while pointing at the cow plush toy hanging from the wall of the tent. “Then we do whatever you want”.

“A mouse stole my cookie and I followed it all the way here... what’s your story?”   Itto was sitting on the floor with no cookie or chances of going out now. A snow storm had started and going out was not much of an option now, so now... they were trapped in the abandoned bowling alley.  The oni scratched his left horn when he felt something creeping on it ( probably a little spider ), but didn’t give it much importance afterwards.   “Well, we’re kinda trapped here all night and hey, this place doesn’t look bad, huh? I’ve slept in dirtier cells than this. Not. Bad. At. All.”​

“Woah, hey--- I was just joking”, Childe laughed while stepping back with hands in front of him. He walked towards the windows and leaned on the edge while looking outside. “Guess you’re trapped with me for the night, Traveler...”, he sighed; the falling snow brought blurry and distant memories of Snezhnaya and his family, “well, no reason to be gloomy about it. At least we are in the comfort of my home; so... you better get used to see me grand part of the night, blondie”, he teased with a smirk. Tartaglia tapped on the windowsill before heading to the living room. To say it was a humble apartment would be a lie, Childe had made some good money since he arrived and it showed. Furniture and decoration were lavish in a rather minimalistic style, but the brick accents and the cracking fire gave the whole atmosphere a cozy feeling.    “What do you wanna do? We can always confess crimes and sins before St. Nicholas arrives with presents in some days”.

“UH...”

Her way of speaking seemed a bit ominous and so, Itto stopped his actions altogether ( that included blinking and breathing ) as he analyzed if this was a good idea, but a deal was a deal and there was hardly a way out of it now.    “Okay yeah yeah yeah, probably almost anything you want. We ain’t here to hurt people or something so if you’re like one of those people who like... get off on hurting others it’s a no-no”, the oni specified. “But let’s get going yeah? I can already smell that prize”, Itto growled happily as he started walking towards the lottery stall. “If you get an 83 or 62 then I am getting the best prize in the whole market”.

Ah, shifts.    Howl worked every now and then for the police and he always ended extremely tired after just a few hours of arriving to the station; so he couldn’t imagine what full time jobs could be like. He leaned back o the wall and then bent forwards a little to be closer to her height.    Was this girl all by herself?    “With all honesty, I don’t think coffee will do you any good, but hot chocolate or tea could do wonders, what do you think?”, the wizard inquired with a little smile as he tilted his head. “And I actually know a really nice place; they also serve the most perfect biscuits”, Howl sighed dreamily as he already imagined spending the rest of his afternoon there. “What’s your name again?”

“Ah, trust me, I can recognize people who sweat good luck and you’re definitely one of them”, Itto declared with confidence. Upon closer inspection to the man, his hand instinctively went to his vision and there was some kind of... familiarity in this person. “Hey, man... have we met before? Your face is kinda familiar...”, the oni commented, “...maybe it’s your smell?”, he added and leaned down to sniff the Archon, “hm, well you smell expensive, but that’s about it--- ANYWAYS, the lottery stall... scam... yeah... not really. Well--- I mean, maybe it is a scam, but I cannot go home without one of those!”, Itto exclaimed pointing at the stall. “It’s a giant cow plushie! And it is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life!”, he huffed. “Yeah, yeah, yeah; I have looked at the other stalls, in fact, I helped to build some of them for a few bucks; but none of them have a big cow toy and I really REALLY need it”, he explained. “We can go check the other stalls after you help me pull one teeny tiny ticket, man”.

“With all due respect, Traveler, you don’t possess anything in your naked body I have not seen before”, Xiao retorted; although he was not wrong, he had also never had any previous experience of... well, you know... but he hadn’t been eager to do it anyways.  Lumine teasing went by without much effect.    Her quick acceptance was not odd, but it still flustered him to some point; after all, she was the first person ( aside of Rex Lapis ) with whom he opened so much.   “Yes. That is what I am asking from you; but don’t bother Rex Lapis with such a banal thing as my phone number. It is not like he needs it anyway”, the adeptus commented. “If you do not have anything important to do, I would appreciate if we went right now. I want to be done with it as soon as possible. Besides, I heard there is some kind of winter festival going on right now”.
