Sorry it’s early but you really can’t use fanfiction terms in a non fanfiction context like if someone is trying to sell me a book to read and they tell me there’s an enemy to lovers I would be annoyed because why are you spoiling the story lol

sorry op this is kind of a tangent but this is why i hate how booktok has not only affected how ppl talk about their fave stories, but how it's basically gnawed its way into how publishing companies promote books. it basically encourages authors to build their entire story entirely around marketable tropes so that they turn more of a profit

"it has enemies to lovers!" "it has friends to lovers!" "this is a slow burn!" WHAT IS THE PLOT??? what makes your story unique?? why should i read it??? describing your story entirely in tropes and fanfiction terms makes your story sound extremely uninteresting lmfao.

Fanfiction is for when you want to read familiar characters in a setting where you already know what's going to happen. I care about this coffee shop au because I already love these characters and just want to see them in fun familiar situations

Books are original content for new stories new characters in new situations. Why should I care if it takes place in a coffee shop? Give me a reason to love these characters!

ok turns out the tiktok ban did get passed and i have to reiterate as shitty as the app is and how harmful it is, the fact that the ban came as a result not of any actual good reason but because the us government wants to silence people is actually horrible and is inexcusable. if this is how harmful things are treated—only if it inconveniences the government—then it shows just how corrupt america is tbh and endangers actual free speech. the reason why that amendment was implemented in the first place is to allow criticism of the government yet when you do that you get gassed, arrested, even killed. fuck this country man.

I realize this is not at all the point but I'm losing my mind at the idea of a boring hotel costing $225/night. my fellow americans, for $225/night you can get an absolutely banger hotel. I stayed at a swank art deco hotel in chicago for $180/night. the hotel in boston I stayed at with the $7 glasses of milk was $279/night, but is currently offering rooms at $178. I've only stayed in an AirBNB one time (for two months, at $60/night), but if those prices are normal for airbnb and that's a normal thing you can afford, holy fuck just get a hotel. $225 is like one tier below "the hotel personally picks you up in a horse-drawn carriage and throws rose petals at you."

It becomes very clear when people only consider trans people who are white, skinny, pass perfectly, and are stealth as ‘real trans people’

People talk about trans men and it becomes clear they aren’t counting non-passing trans men, pregnant trans men, fat trans men, and trans men of color.

I see this from other trans guys so much. So many other trans guys will act like they are better because they pass, they are white, they are skinny, and/or they don’t want to get pregnant. So they leave trans men of color, non-passing trans men, fat trans men, and pregnant trans men out of the conversation.

Nah it’s not derailing! I’m just talking from my own experiences and I don’t mind when people add on with their own.

People hold trans people to incredibly high standards to be respected . Fatphobia, racism, and the pressure to ‘act cis’ are HUGE problems in trans spaces … it’s horrible . And when all that stuff combines with transmisogyny it just gets so much worse.

People only focus on the ‘presentable’ trans people to appeal to cis people. A trans person who is white, skinny, and passing is more appealing to cis people than a trans person who isn’t any of those things.

When trans people try to appeal to cis people they always end up leaving all the ‘unappealing’ trans people behind.
