“Heh, these steak dinners must be pretty famous back there,” He couldn’t help but tease, now beginning to grow ever more curious about them.  While ramen was definitely his favorite, steak was probably a close second.  No way that steak could ever be bad!
“He’s gone now, so no worries,” He shrugged his shoulders, simply wanting to leave it at that.  Talking about his dad would only mean acknowledging the bastard and as far as he was concerned, the man was better off forgotten.  “Choosing your family, huh? I think I can agree with that - maybe it’s silly but I always thought of my friends as being kind of like my family,” He admitted, his face softening at the mention of this lonely old woman.  “…I think it’d be nice to have a new grandma - I never really had one and this old lady sounds nice enough.  I guess I don’t see the harm in humorin’ her if what she really wants is just companionship.  She seems kind of lonely.”

“Yeah, not like we had much going for us. My friend, Chie, is a total carnivore, too. I swear half her brain is just dedicated to thinking about meat...”

“I don’t think it’s silly at all! You know- I used to really hate living in that tiny town, but I really grew to appreciate it and all the people living there. Sure, it was boring at times, and there were way too many gossipy housewives, but there’s something nice about having a close knit community like that...”

“As scary as it is, I kinda wish everyone could see their shadow... or at least, like- have the feeling of accepting themselves and stuff. Keeping that stuff inside just... feels shitty beyond belief.”

Maybe if it were coming from someone else - like a classmate perhaps, he might have found that to be rather pretentious or snobbish.  However, Yosuke didn’t seem like he was bragging or flaunting anything, he was just stating a fact and Ryuji could respect that.  “I mean if you can afford it, then go get yourself some fancy stuff,” He chuckled, one brow furrowing in confusion at the steak dinner part, wondering if this was a common occurrence, maybe.  “Well, uh, save one of those steak dinners for me sometime, yeah?” He joked, nudging his friend gently.
“Couldn’t hurt to,” He shrugged his shoulders, not wanting to overstep his boundaries.  “My Ma’s definitely the closest person in my life - probably my best friend, come to think of it,” He admitted with a slightly self deprecating chuckle.  “…As for my old man, as far as I’m concerned - he’s not my dad at all.  My life’s better off without him and I want to leave it at that,”

“Yeah, yeah... I’ll add you to the list.” He gave a smile anyway. Hopefully, he wouldn’t get into fights with Ryuji. Granted, it tended to be girls that he had such a hard time talking to. Him and his stupid mouth...

“Oh yeah? Damn... Sorry to hear that, man.” He didn’t really know anyone with a great dad, but some had it worse off than others. “Family’s not really... I mean, it’s not like it’s not important, but... I think we kinda just choose the people who are special to us. There was this old lady in the town I moved from who just thought everyone she met was her grandson. Pretty sad, but... I don’t know. Maybe some people could really use a new grandma?”

Part 1827811 of why I love the Hanamura brothers: Yosuke’s parents don’t just tolerate Teddie being there, they actively make an effort to include him in their family and into their lives. I mean Yosuke’s dad watches movies with him and gave him a job at Junes. Even if he is the head manager of the Inaba branch, he would’ve had to pull a lot of strings and tell a few lies to hire some random kid with no paperwork off the street. Also Teddie calls Yosuke’s parents mama and papa on multiple occasions and that makes me so soft because Teddie’s never had parents before and now he knows what it’s like to be part of a family.

“Heh, that’s a memory you don’t soon forget, huh?” He had taken quite some time to get to that point.  Asking his Ma for money had always felt like something that was out of the question and he’d always been too young to get a job, but he did recall the small money awards that he would win from local sports competition.  His Ma had been kind enough to let him hold onto a great deal of his own money and spend it on what he wanted to.  “However rich your family is, it still feels good to buy something for yourself,” He agreed.  “I bet putting on those clothes for the first time must have felt awesome - same with the headphones.”
“Your parents sound pretty cool in my opinion - a little stern maybe, but there’s always worse, yeah?”

Yosuke nodded. He almost, almost missed working at Junes. Retail could be hell, especially in a place where everyone knows you, but he had worked his way up to assistant manager, and his coworkers treated him well. The adults anyway. Still, he wouldn’t trade his freedom for anything. “I like fancy stuff, what can I say? And it’s good if you... get into a fight with your friend and need to buy them a steak dinner.” He sighed. Maybe that wasn’t such a relatable problem.

“Really strict, but... maybe that’s just another way of showing they care. I guess I should call them sometime... You get along with your parents, Ryuji?”

Yu: BISEXUALS ARE NOT CONFUSED!!
Yosuke: Actually, I am. I don’t know how to do taxes or how an engine works.

“It was Fang actually. My, err, ex-shadow? I am not really sure what he’s considered any more besides well himself. Still he’s managed to become an amazing cook actually. I honestly don’t know how he does it.”

He paused his chewing. “A shadow made this?” he asked, mouth full of cookie. Mage swallowed. “Well... it doesn’t taste weird or anything, so I guess it’s fine. Especially if he made it out of like... real food, and not rancid tv world stuff.”

“Man, you’d be right about that,” Unwrapping the headphones, he handed them back to Yosuke with an appreciative smile and nod of his head.  “Earbuds would probably be easier for sharing but something about them just makes me feel a bit weird,” He admitted - earbuds just seemed so tiny and small…! “How long have you had your pair for?”

He easily slipped his headphones back around his neck. Maybe, he really should stop dwelling on sentimental stuff. “Yeah, probably lose something like that... These were the first thing I bought with my own money. At least like, you know, from a paycheck. It’s not like my family was poor. We were practically royalty when we moved to a small town.” He laughed, although it was still a bit of a sore spot. “But my parents- especially my dad, always taught me to work for the things I want. So, I ended up saving for stuff like flashy clothes and stuff like that. It felt really good.”

“...You know, as much of a pain that my parents could be... I think I’m really grateful for that.”

Gift from Sora @magicianrankup
Sora approached Mage with a wary smile and a plate of sugar cookies. “I know you said you didn’t want any gift but I still wanted to give you something. So, I hope some sugar cookies would be okay? I didn’t make them by the way. I had someone who can bake make them for me.”

“And who was that someone?” It took a cookie and bit into it.

Sora blinked. He… Forgot? Now that was something he’s never herd before. His vampiric nature was very hard to forget about. Usually it was his defining feature. Maybe it was cause he didn’t talk to Mage very often. Though hearing he had forgot was kind a nice. He was going to ignore the pain in his head that caused his to wince at that thought.
“Actually I can go out into the sun as long as I am wearing this.” He points to the gem hanging from the necklace he never takes off. “I just have a lot of time on my hands. So I’m trying to keep busy.”
He chuckled and nodded. Had he told Mage about his situation? Suppose he should say something. “Thanks Mage. Hearing that actually means a lot to me. You can summon outside the tv world? I can only do that if I’m in these things called Merge Points back in my world. Though no longer being able to summon Jiraiya has kind a sucked. Makes it very hard to get the materials I need for making.”

“Sun-resistant stone, huh? That’s neat. I honestly wish I had more free time.” School was such a pain, and there was way too much stuff to see in the city.

“Merge points? I don’t get it. Uh, the method he showed me is... kind of super painful? I’d avoid it unless it was completely necessary. You using the junk you get from killing shadows to make stuff?”

“If you can’t summon anymore, you should... reeeeally check that out. Even if most people don’t have personas, it’s not a good sign to lose one...”

@magicianrankup sent - “Yo Ryuji! You like music, right? You’re cool.” What kind of punk didn’t? Even if Ryuji was pretty nice for a delinquent. Just like Kanji. Yosuke handed his headphones over. “Check this song out. It’s amazing.”

“Ah yeah, I like listening to music,” He was hardly a music buff but he could appreciate a good tune every now and then.  Truth be told, Yosuke already had him at ‘cool’.  “Thanks, man.” Holding the headphones up to his hear, he bobbed his head up and down as he listened to the song, his body intuitively responding to the catchy beat and tune of the song.  Lowering the headphones ever so slightly, he turned to his companion.  “What song is this? I definitely want to download it now!”

“You’ve probably never heard of them,” he answered easily. “I’ll text it to you, okay? The song title is really long.” It seemed to be the trend these days. “I should probably go buy some earbuds if I want to share my music, but I’m so used to the headphones.” Yosuke sighed. “They’re just like... oddly comforting to me? Feels weird when I don’t have that weight on my neck.”

Sora shrugged his shoulders. “It’s something for me to do outside my part time job and seeing Fool, along with my other mates. Besides I am actually pretty good at it.”
He chuckles slightly. “You don’t have to worry. Wood is the only thing that is as dangerous as the sun to me. Besides even if I do manage to accidentally hurt myself it’ll heal instantly. So there is really no need to worry.”

“...I forgot you were a vampire.” He sighed. “Carry on, then, I guess. I couldn’t imagine being allergic to the sun. You gotta compensate with different hobbies somehow when you can’t exactly go biking into the sunset...”

“Call me up if you need a diarama, I guess. Scarf showed me how to summon in the real world.” As strange and traumatic as it was.
