HOW TO LOVE GOD

You’ve heard the famous Bible Verse that says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

But how do you do that?

To be able to do that is to be entirely consumed by the love you have for God and many of us want that. We want to be overwhelmed by our love for God. To see nothing else but Him. To depend solely on Him. To have a connection, a bond, an interaction and a solid relationship with God.

We want that.

But every love has a price. Every love demands a sacrifice and in this case, it requires all your heart, all your soul and all your mind.

Can you do that?

Doing that will require absolute surrender. And are you capable of absolute surrender?

Everyday our minds are split in fifty ways to a million. Worry. Duty. Family. Future. Work and so many other things our lives depend on. Where can we find the strength and the faith to surrender all to God?

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

So now we know, we can surrender through prayer(calling out for help) and thanksgiving (faith that help is on the way).

And when we surrender the things that take our minds off of God, we can effectively love Him without holding back.

So how we love God?

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15

And how can we find God’s commandments?

By the constant refreshing of our minds with the reading of the word of God and by the physical application of what we’ve read in God’s word to our daily living.

“But whoever keep His word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in Him.” 1 John 2:5

Here’s a way I read the Bible. When I come across a bible verse that speaks to me, I contemplate on it and write it down as best as I understand it.

For example, John 15:10 says, “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.”

Then this is how best I interpret it in my journal according to what I feel God is saying to me. “Jesus says, if I live my life based on his rules and guidelines, then everyday of my life will be in God’s love, just the way Jesus did and lives on in God’s love.” John 15:10

To interpret a bible verse as if it was written just for you will require you to meditate on God’s word and allow it to sink in, till you understand how you are supposed to live a godly life.

By obeying God and applying His word to our lives, we take back that first blessing God bestowed on Adam and Eve before they were cursed. He gave them a simple rule and the downfall of man was birthed by disobedience.

When we place our own self-interest above God’s interest, we have failed to love Him.

God wants us to build our lives with the brick of his Word so that we would be like that house on a rock that survived temptations and trials but still stood firm.

Jesus is the Rock of Ages. Obeying Him means building our lives on Him and no matter what happens after that, we know we will come out on top, standing firm and unshaken.

“The Lord keeps close watch over the whole world, to give strength to those whose hearts are loyal to him…” 2 Chro. 16:9

So there you have it. We love God by obeying His commands and not just that, we love Him also in the little things, like saying “Good Morning Father. Thank you for this day”. We love God by acknowledging Him as God, Ruler, Father, Friend, Lover, etc in the small things as well as the big things.

Thank you for reading. God Bless you. ❤
