Ben stared up at his grandfather. Vader was tall and while the boy was still growing, people had already remarked to Ben how tall her was. Now he understood why people were frightened of his grandfather. Not only did Vader posses great strength over the Force, but his very presence was intimidating.
The pull to the dark side. The teen thought about it for a moment. He had thought he tried hard to be a good person, but he knew that he was perhaps not the best of people. But he tried, he tried so hard. He wanted to be as wise as the Jedi Master he had been named for. He wanted to be as strong as his uncle. He had dreams to be a great Jedi Master one day, perhaps even to one day be a member of a New Jedi Council. That is all it could ever be, a dream.
Dreams fade or are torn. His delicate heart and mind had been stirred since hearing the news.
“I feel betrayed.” Ben found himself telling his grandfather. He hand holding the lightsaber lowered and he deactivated the weapon. He looked down the weapon. It had been a lightsaber that had been meant to protect, passed from his grandfather to his uncle and finally after being found again to him. He returned his gaze to his grandfather, his brown eyes looking straight at the mask. “And angry. Why would they keep the secret from me? Why would they lie to me? Am I not trustworthy?”
The poison had worked its way into his mind and his heart. Yet, it was only giving strength to feelings that were already there. No amount of mediation would help.
Now was time to make a decision. Sure, he could go back to the temple, but he was uncertain if whether or not his grandfather might kill him before he reached it. Even if Vader did let him go, his uncle and parents would figure out that Vader still lived and would fight him again, making sure to kill him once and for all.
“What is your offer?” Ben asked finally, starting his move.
There was a war going on inside Ben, one he was all too familiar with. He had been there himself a long time ago. Would he follow in his grandfather’s footsteps or not? Vader felt confident enough to say that yes, he most certainly would. They were a lot more alike than he and Luke ever were and this is why this plan would work.Luke had always been too kind-hearted but Ben, oh he was so similar to him back when he was young.
“You have every right to feel that way.” Ben was lowering his guard, turning off his lightsaber. Now was the moment to strike and do what he came here to do. “It’s only normal to think they don’t trust you… After all what other reason could there be for lying about so many things?”
Of course, there were many other reasons that could be offered but Ben was so angry that he could not think of them right now.
If he hadn’t been wearing his mask, one would actually have noticed that Vader was smiling. “You can come with me and I can be your new teacher. Leave your lying family behind. We can rule the galaxy together and I promise you I will always tell you the truth unlike the rest of your family. You have so much potential Ben and I can help you become more powerful then you could ever have dreamed off.”
