i must not stir the pot. stirring the pot is the notifications-killer. participation in the discourse is the little-death that brings total activity obliteration. i will face the bad opinions on the internet. i will permit them to pass over me and through me. and when they have gone past, i will turn the block button onto their source. where the discourse has come from there will be nothing. only i will remain.

modern social media should stop offering "sync with your phone contacts to follow them" options and start offering "block all your phone contacts so they never see your account" options

one profession that does need better gatekeeping is people who write or translate subtitles. brother that is not what was said.

#pay them more and they'll improve#<-prev#GIVE THEM MORE TIME AND THEY WILL IMPROVE#GIVE THEM MORE RESOURCES AND THEY WILL IMPROVE#my exp doing transcription & closed captions for that kind of company is strict timeline w very limited options for resources/communication#if you've ever been annoyed that subtitles lack continuity between episodes#I guarantee you it's bc two different people did each episode#and probably didn't get to talk to each other#if you're annoyed that something was transcribed incorrectly and a simple bit of inside knowledge would have caught that error#I guarantee that no inside knowledge was provided to the transcriptionist#likely no background information on the topic at all#I'd be happy to do this line of work again but so far I'm not fast enough to consistently meet the deadlines AND#maintain my standard of accuracy
