[ Verse | (to be determined) ]

Riley was a bit… dumbstruck… “Ah, uhm… sir” she said quietly, “your ribs are showin’…!?” She had just about seen it all…

Avatar

Hector looked down and laughed “They show no matter what! Problem with the ragged thing, old thing”

Riley nodded slowly. “I see, sir” she replied. “Then again… well… don’t y'think y'might need a slightly bigger shirt?”

Hector looked at her “Sorry miss but…these are the only clothes I have, they’re what I was…was buried in…” he said sadly.

Her eyes widened. “W-wait–what!?” she gasped. Did she hear that proper!?

Hector nodded a bit sheepishly "Yeah...ah I didn't die in these rags but when I woke up there this...this is what I was in" he said softly.

“Rook hey! Hey, hey amigo! I need some help! Like now!” Hector said nervously, looking behind himself wildly.

“Depends on what did you do and if I can fix it with a baseball bat.” Rook said, looking over his shoulder to see what or who could be the problem.

“Well I might have angered one of the Land of the Dead’s most lived musicians and now he’s out to kill me for a second time on the risk I’ll ruin his reputation” Hector said with a wide grin, his gold tooth shined.

“..So, what you’re asking me is that I bust him before he gets to you?” She asked crossing her arms.

“What? No! I just need to hide!” He said looking past Rook nervously.

“Fine.” She said, stepping aside. “Don’t step on Pi, you’ve angered enough spirits for today.”

Hector bolted in quickly and tripped on the carpet falling to pieces on the floor “Oh yes, forgot you have carpet now…” he said as he put himself back together “Who’s Pi?”

A little ball python poked at his face. “That’s Pi. He’s my familiar spirit, so he always follows me around.” The python curled up, suddenly uninterested by the stranger. “And no, it’s not just a fancy name for my pet snake.”

“Oh so hes your Alebrijie?” He asked looking at the snake and tilted his head in his hands “Doesn’t look like one much but this is the living world so he probably wouldn’t” Hector added and patted the snake lightly “Lets just hope Cruz doesn’t have his”

“Pi helps me with..stuff.” Rook picked up Pi and let him rest on her arm. “What exactly can this Cruz guy do? I’d like to know before he comes and crashes my place.”

“Probably worse to me than to you, he’s pretty ticked and for us that and brings a certain type of power…not a good one either”

“I have the bad habit of interfering, so I doubt he’d be nicer to me. Could you be a little more specific?” A soft bark announced Thea, who walked over to him and sniffed him then sat down and scratched her head behind one of her horns. “That’s Thea..”

"Another one? You must be very powerful yourself" Hector his patting the dog on its head. "Sorry but now, I'm not sure"

"What does he have that I didn't?" Hector sighed looking up at a tall, white, tower with music and lights pouring out of it.

“Uuuuuhhh…. that’s a rhetorical question… right? *Vigos rose a brow looking at the skeleton figure besides him*

Avatar

“In a way…I guess he had fans and I…didn’t” Hector said and sighed deeply again.

“Does this… other person also happen to have a more human- look… *Pointing to himself* flesh tissue organs… those things?

“No one has that here, this is the Land of the Dead” he explained “And these are the slums of it” he pointed at the bungalows.

“Oooooooooo… *he made a bit of a face* we feel… out of place now.. and looking for a possible needle in a haystack… we sensed a presence that shouldn’t e here..

“You mean that lady that was here? If there’s a presence that shouldn’t be here it’s her! …In a way nor should I…”

“A lady? We thought for sure it was a kid.. as for you… we are perrrty sure you belong here” Vigos huffed at him*

“Kid? Maybe…” Hector shrugged unsure “I do but…I want to go home…home to my girl! She’s waiting for me but–but I can’t get to her no matter what I try!” He fussed and hid his face with his hat “I hate it!”

*Vigos frowned a bit listening to his story, he had heard many told the same way by many others who wanted to return to the living. When he looked for himself the stories turned out to be fake and the persons only wanting to commit crimes. He did want to help him, but it felt strange to use a form of interrogation on him. It was the only way he knew if someone was telling the truth. He used the third eye of his and reached with one hand where an extension of it formed to probe* If you are telling the truth… then you have nothing to worry about.. we can see memories of both this ‘life’ and former”

“Can’t say mine was exciting, born in a small town, music was always a part of my heart my language, met a nice girl and settled down and had a baby but then…then I left with my best friend to play for the world, to be the world’s greatest musician” Hector said looking down “But I died…and now I’m just about forgotten…I was trying to go home! Home to my wife and girl!”

*He did not find any hidden bad things in his memories. As a way of telling that was a small smile to him. Afterwards, he told him* We do not see anything severely bad that would keep you here… We suppose this is your lucky day.. *Vigos moved a bit in order to create a portal to where his family was* When you go through, you’ll be flesh and bones again.

Hector yelled and fell backwards, sadly falling to pieces as well, he pulled himself together and looked at the portal in disbelief “Really? But…but at time? I died in 1921! What if I go through and…but it doesn’t really matter if I see her again but…” Hector was conflicted with his first real chance of getting home “Would I stay there? Or would I have to return by sunrise?” He asked softly.

“You’ll return at the same time in which you passed…. unless you want to return at a different year? *Vigos asked him. He chuckled a bit at the assumption that he was just a mere ordinary reaper* No, you’d be able to live a full long life.. to be able to accomplish that dream of yours.. we promise that. As an incarnation of death itself.. we prefer to see those who are going to pass over into the next existence without any burdens or regrets”

“I really can go home…” he said and looked at him like a deer in head lights before he bolted through the portal and woke up on the street of the town he was touring in. “Back? I’m…I’m really back!” He thought and pushed himself up, his hands! He had skin! He looked at himself, he was dressed in his fine performance outfit! Hector was giddy with joy before he scrambled over to a window and stumbled back a bit in surprise. His face, it wasn’t his skull! It was his real, proper face! He laughed and pulled at his cheeks and stretched his mouth. “I’M ALIVE! AND I’M GOING BACK HOME!” He screamed at the night sky.

*Vigos knew he’d be ridiculed for such thing by other elders like him, but to see the man happy and alive, it was worth it to give at least one stranger their life back* We’d say you look much better this way as well.”

“And I do don’t I? Now I must get home to my wife and daughter, tell them what nearly became of me, and get that rat that killed me!” He said proudly and jumped when he heard the train whistle.

“We aren’t sure they’d understand the concept of time stopping. To them it could be an out of body experience being what was years in a matter of moments. We brought you back before news came to them of your passing. *He turned also hearing the train* We’ll find who did kill you and make sure justice has been done…. *Vigos paused with a smile* .. and don’t be alarmed if you see us at your concerts.. because we enjoy music very much.

Hector laughed and hugged Vigos tightly "Anytime amigo! If my wife doesn't slap me first for leaving her" Hector said and gave a nervous laugh.
