I feel like we should give it time. Comparing tristamp Meryl with 98 Meryl rn is not right. Because tristamp is clearly a prequel. Meryl is more naive, did not have a gun and was still a kouhai. This is not the 98 Meryl. She was basically taking the part of the viewer, meeting Vash, not knowing much about the world and following Roberto around. After eveything that happened (and is about to happen) she will definitely change. She learned and experienced a lot of horror, she have a lot more conviction in her ideals. I for one appreaciate that they decided to give her character development like this. The way things are, Meryl will come back more like her manga/98 version in S2, most likely with Milly. Im betting on a time skip of a couple years where Meryl will train her shooting skills and come back a lot more badass and possibly have more screentime and do a lot more stuff

you’re definitely right but i did say i was being too harsh maybe though i feel like they decided to fly too close to the sun with the little episodes they have if they season was 25 eps it would’ve been easier to span it out but anywho. i’m still not holding my breath

After seeing where they placed meryl at the end of the 11th episode I’m hoping she’s be more prominent in the end if not in season 2

You don’t just end in center dram in front of the main plot and not pick up from there right?

Though I wouldn’t be surprised if Wolfwood was brought in a change of heart moment

I feel like wolfwood might come in unfortunately but holding out hope is always a good thing except still i feel like the dynamic between vash and meryl is superficial at best esp from his side.

Really feeling your post about meryl. Feels like she's there just bc she's from the Manga and they felt they had to include her. I expected her to do more, have more of a purpose but she's just kinda there. I guess we have one more episode but really is upsetting that the 98 anime was able to do a better job in 98 and now in 2023 feels like we regressed and had to give her a mentor to give her development. I don't know man I'm just pretty bummed out that she's the main female in the story yet seems like the story doesn't care much for her. Hope this is just really long set up for season 2 but even then what a bummer to have to wait a whole season to get to meryl substance, if that's the case in the first place.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I never expected my post to get that much attention but I’m really happy we’re more than just a couple of people. I kept thinking maybe I was being too harsh. I kept waiting for meryl to get something anything but we are 11 episodes in all she’s been is literally a guest star? Why advertise her as a main character? I would’ve preferred her to basically be erased like milly at this point and I’m serious lmao. It is so disheartening to see her get pushed aside especially when wolfwood already gets a lot and a whole arc with loads of action with vash later on the first part was rlly vash and the girls so idk man. The 98 version being better with her and milly also even more insane when u consider how easily they could’ve been misogynistic and sideline her but instead in 2023 we get it. but yeah i’m not expecting much and I am completely turned off by the show lol so if it does get renewed I will most likely not care about it until meryl gets more than 2 seconds every episode also MILLY.

ALSO. adding roberto another male character who’s an OC for her only for him to take up screentime be useless and not even actually give her character substance like be serious orange.

maybe i’m just judging too hard and too early but i really really hate how trigun stampede has watered down the dynamic between meryl and vash and before shippers start talking. trigun 98 and the manga itself had this dynamic between both established before wolfwood came in, sure she wasn’t in on the action that much but they shared a lot of significant moments. even in the 98 adaptation the first half featured a lot of meryl (milly) and vash interactions which solidified their relationship as something that just couldn’t be labelled but was built on trust and care. in stampede they barely have that? (98 was able to establish this under 15 eps so i’m rlly scratching my head rn). and even with roberto this separation of the “core four” feels so Weird. i know it’s all for character depth, meryl feels so disjointed from the whole Plot.

edit: let me clarify that i know the rl between vash and meryl isn’t as prominent in the manga either (trimax esp) but they still share moments in the manga as a whole. i feel as if stampede doesn’t do them justice at all. idk but the 98 anime did give them a lot maybe i got greedy!

either way the series being 12 episodes while also being a reboot slash kind of different take on the series rlly does not do any justice to meryl as a character; roberto’s death we knew it was coming and i knew it was going to give her her character development but somehow it still feels so Off. maybe i’m just missing something maybe if and when milly gets added the puzzle pieces will start to fit but as of right now i’m sad at the execution of meryl and the dynamic between her and vash.
