i’ll tell you what is not and will never be in my skill set and that’s making myself sound like a commodity that a boss would really want to purchase

repeat after me:

  • even if i don’t like my body today i will take care of it
  • even if i don’t like myself today i will still be patient and kind with myself
  • even if i do not love myself i will still take care of and be kind to myself, despite not wanting to

i will say that this coronavirus scare has definitely revealed that minimum-wage service workers are absolutely instrumental for society to function… all the hoity-toity business meetings can be cancelled, the NBA can be cancelled, public schools and colleges can be cancelled, government meetings can be cancelled, but the checkout line at the grocery store can’t be cancelled… in a perfect world i’d hope that this was a bellwether for better treatment of workers like me but i know we’ll just continue to get paid min wage with no rewards or thank-yous from the world during this time lolololol

I just want to add that teachers and school staff are still working. A lot of people are complaining about the homeschooling but there’s a lot of work behind the scenes.

We’ve been asked to generate weeks of adapted lesson plans in a very short period of time, while acting as messengers for panicked parents.

There are teachers scrambling to make sure that seniors are still able to graduate.

There are neurodivergent-education teachers who are bending over backwards to accommodate for their students with individualized education plans who use schools to access services like occupational therapy and speech therapy.

There are other school staff like food workers who are still going to school every day to make sure that students still have access to meals. Or, custodial staff that went above and beyond to clean the schools after they were closed.

Schools can be cancelled but our underpaid teachers and staff are still working beyond their means! And some of them are directly putting themselves at risk.
