pretty much every right-wing resistance to universal basic income in the USA-- it'll create a two-tier society, too many people will choose not to work, it will cause inflation, the stock market will crash and lose trillions-- , Trump's tariffs are already doing that.

as of MINUTES AGO TODAY, on the day they were intended to take effect, Donald Trump paused them for 90 days to avoid the consequences-- or to demonstrate his power to mulch and restore trillions on a whim. Or to desensitize the Dow to his shenanigans so he can in the future do whatever he wants without it responding negatively.

whatever reason it really is, if he didn't do this there would be immense adverse consequences. there still will be. Conservatives believe a 'Welfare State' would tank society somehow. But they're doing that already with an 'abusive household state.'
