the day after I posted this last time I was notified that I was selected for a really cool mentorship gig and got an unrelated glowing review at work

I have a job interview tomorrow. I can't risk it.

Carmen hears Tina before he sees Sydney. There's an appreciative ooo followed by a wolf whistle. "You look good, mama. You got a date, or what?"

Sydney snorts. "No, I'm just hanging out with some friends."

"What friends?" Marcus quips from somewhere around the corner.

Carmen imagines Sydney is rolling her eyes right about now. "You're just mad you weren't invited."

"Bet I get invited next time," he says, a smile creeping across his face. "Tell Mimi I said hi."

And it was in this exact moment that I realized they were gonna eventually fuck

Who do y’all think would be the first of the kitchen crew to sniff out Carmy and Sydney’s dynamic if and when it happens on the show? My money is on Tina or Gary. Tina is sharp and Gary stays in the cut probably observing everything.

Tina was very smart woman period. Not only that but she was quicker than most people to catch on details. So, when things started to get a lil weird between Carmen and Sydney, her first instinct was to watch. Not the long stare, not like those Carmen gave to Sydney once in a while when he thought no one was looking. Tina used to give fast looks here and there and notice those small nuances.

Like how much Sydney valued his opinion about everything. Especially the new plates for the restaurant: she watched Carmy expectantly while he tried her food and couldn’t hide her brightest smile after his nod of approval.

Or when Syd used to come full of new ideas and Richie would get so mad, but Carmy was open for changes (“She is changing everything, cousin, I am telling you!”). Maybe Richie was realizing as well but that fake Italian had his mind inside his ass so he pretended not to see.

Or the time some big guy decided to complain about his food and Sydney not standing the man screaming at Gary, went out there to put order and the guy started screaming at her as well. Carmy waited impatiently for a few minutes until he heard the words “Stupid bitch!”. Carmy was the first to go out there (followed closely by everyone else) and kick the guy out there.

Sure for her co-workers that was just him standing up for an employee (Mike would have done the same), but Tina saw the small touch on Syd’s shoulder followed by a gentle smile Carmy rarely gave anyone before he passed her back to the kitchen.

“Are you okay, chef?” Tina asked, her tone sounding more teasing than worried.

“Yes. Thanks, Chef.” Syd passed her back to the kitchen, avoiding her stare. Tina hid her smile as Gary got closer, standing at her side.

“Are they-?”

“Mhm. You tell me, Gary.”
