I truly love how queer can mean "Eh I'm some flavour of Not-Cishet but I don't care to know the specifics beyond that" but also "I absolutely do know the specifics but we will be here all damn day if we get into it" and like. Everything in between. I think that's incredibly powerful of us tbh.

Many lgbt teenagers and young adults growing up on the internet today have socially conservative beliefs that they voice at all times that they got from their conservative parents which they’ve never challenged because they think the life experience of being gay or trans makes them politically progressive

This is why I hate it when people say something homophobic and then go “so you’re really accusing me, a whole ass lesbian, of being homophobic 🙄” like yeah

Just because you’re part of an oppressed party does not mean you cannot hold bias against other groups or members of your own group. Bias is learned and ingrained through society and family and it takes real work to unlearn it. No one is perfect, no one is without bias and you are in fact going to fuck up now and again—what matters is if you learn from it and grow.

"adults should be mindful of minors online" is a perfectly reasonable statement!

however. "being mindful" means:

  • adequately tagging/warning for non-child-friendly content to ensure that minors are able to avoid it
  • not discussing inappropriate topics with minors or in spaces that are supposed to be safe for minors

"being mindful" does NOT actually mean:

  • never ever creating content rated higher than PG even if it's all properly tagged and warned for because it's still possible that a minor might potentially see it

The pandemic still happening is literally not because of individual anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, anti-lockdown people, etc. Like, don’t get me wrong, they have definitely killed people (though far, far more culpable are the media personalities who widely perpetuate these ideas), but even if everyone with access to them had worn masks this whole time and gotten the vaccine as soon as it was available to them, we would still have vaccine-resistant strains emerging from places like India and Botswana, because people in those places didn’t have as much of a choice about receiving the vaccine

The variants were directly caused by the exact thing epidemiologists have been warning us about since the beginning: patents on vaccines that were developed with government funding, and inadequate distribution to areas that can’t manufacture their own vaccines because of those patents. That’s what allowed the virus to circulate and mutate in those areas and produce new strains. This is a direct A to B causation that cannot be blamed on anti-vaxxers in the US or Europe - simply put, none of this will end until the vaccine patents are destroyed

And I feel like this should be obvious, but even if everyone in the US and Europe and wherever you live was fully vaccinated and quarantined and we somehow completely eradicated the virus in those places and you were able to go to comic book conventions again, the pandemic still wouldn’t be over, because a pandemic is by definition worldwide. You should care about people in other parts of the world because they’re people who deserve a good life just like you, not because they impact your ability to eat at restaurants

It’s literally the same shit they do when they try pin environmental problems on individuals using plastic straws and not giant corporations dumping on a scale that completely drawfs that.

Or the old “You’re being underpaid because of those illegal immigrants, not because the CEO is hoarding wealth like a dragon while he pays you all the barest fraction of what your labor’s worth”.

Like, please ignore our institutional policies and direct your vitriol at your neighbor.

And to those who say, but second hand books and read them, what about the one who buys a second hand book, reads it, thinks wow how awesome is this i need to find more and starts supporting JK not knowing what an terf asshole she is.

You are still perpetuating the fandom.

It does make me wonder if she was a homophobe, racist, facist etc whether her ‘fans’ would still be like - but you can support the art but not the artist’ She isnt like Lovecraft who everyone knows he was a racist bigot. He is dead, his work is known for it’s time but it’s not affecting current policy, like JK Rowlings work IS.

The UK anti trans bills that came in were also a direct result of HER LOBBYING PARLIMENT.

I still think that my favorite urban legend/folklore fact is that there are certain areas in New Orleans where you cannot get a taxi late at night not because it isn’t safe, but because taxi companies have had recurring problems of picking up ghosts in those areas who are not aware that they are dead and disappearing from the cab before reaching the destination and therefore stiffing the driver on the fare causing a loss for the company.

An occupational hazard of cab driving I had not previously considered

I love that the nola problem here is not “ghosts in my taxi cab,” but “ghosts are FUCKING BROKE DEAD BASTARDS & I GOT BILLS

Horror is when ghosts get into cabs and scare drivers Magical realism is when cab companies have to develop policies to prevent ghastly fare-theft

In a book about the tsunami in Japan in 2011, the writer talked about how there was a huge increase in reports of ghostly activity. Apparently in Japan treating ghosts rudely is basically considered the stupidest thing you could possibly do. For months after the tsunami, taxi drivers would pick up a passenger only to have them give an address in one of the devastated areas. The cab driver often looked up halfway to the destination to find their fare had disappeared. Not wanting to be impolite to the person (even if they were dead) they’d drive to the address, open the door to let them out, then drive away.

Things with no gay/queer rep can be progressive and groundbreaking actually and need to be part of the discussion of representation in media

Like,,,,

A show about an interracial disabled couple (that’s written well) is just as progressive as a show about two gay characters

A show with multiple well written POC characters, especially in leading roles, is progressive and should be part of the discussion

Representation has never only meant queer rep.

And I hate that so many of POC and disabled people see that shows and books that represent them, not get included or acknowledge in the discussion about representation.

Just because something doesn’t represent you, doesn’t mean it’s not representing someone else.

Yes queer rep is good, of course it is (I’m neither cis nor het) but I can not begin to understand how so many of you will just,,,ignore shows that represent POC and/or disabled people in a well written and positive way because it’s not what you are. Or tell us that when we mention them as good examples of rep that it’s not really representation.

The world exist outside of you and your experience.

Anonymous asked:

jessica rabbit is literally a sex symbol though she can't be asexual?

she is in romo with a rabbit because he makes her laugh and aside from using her looks to get things out of people she literally never once shows interest in anything or anyone sexually through the entire movie and is clearly appalled when anyone makes advances towards her like there is canonical evidence that jessica rabbit from the classic motion picture who framed rogger rabbit is an asexual character

Avatar

I am here as fuck for this. Jessica Rabbit for new asexual icon.

“She can’t be asexual because she’s hot tho”

“I can only see her as a sexual object so I can’t imagine her not wanting to have sex with me.”

I’ve always remembered the line “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way” as Jessica’s admission that while sexualized, she isn’t inherently a sexual entity.

I mean hell, literally, her line before is “You don’t know how hard it is being a woman looking the way I do.”, to which Eddie responds; “You don’t know how hard it is being a man looking at a woman looking the way you do.”

I think that’s pretty damning evidence to her asexuality. The whole plot point with Jessica is how everyone is either convinced she’s sleeping with every human and toon around, or why does she stay faithful to Roger.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit does a great job at satirizing Hollywood/American culture and ideals when it comes to appearances. It also does a great job at hiding some really well thought out challenges to how we look at others in plain sight.

I completely believe that Jessica Rabbit is an asexual romantic (hetero/bi/pan/etc not sure, and to be honest, I don’t know if that part is important, as she’s married to the toon she loves).

I LOVE this headcanon <3

This is important!

This headcanon is just so perfect I had to draw it

This is so important, because this isn’t just about a cartoon.  The idea that attractive people can’t be asexual (or that if they are it’s ‘a waste’) is a very common myth that does very real harm to very real people.  At best it pressures asexuals to engage in sexual activity whether they want it or not.  At worst, it’s justification for corrective rape.  And it goes hand in hand with the idea that asexuals are just ugly people bitter about their inability to find a sexual partner.
