A familiarity and a spark that had made it thrilling in a way she wouldn’t have thought possible. A feeling she would very much like to have again, dangerous as that might feel to admit. Gamora is not bound by anyone or anything now. She does what she wants to do. Including, but not limited to, traveling to Earth on a whim to see Peter Quill.

Okay tumblr, it's time for a Very Special Introduction.

This is Henry:

He was found drowning in a backyard pool in Texas.

The person who found him had no experience with birds, so she contacted my friend, who runs a lost and found pets group on Facebook and also does some rehab. We think he was about 6-8 weeks old at the time, not even fully weaned. (We think he escaped from a backyard breeder who didn't want to claim him and pay for medical treatment.)

My friend, who has multiple birds of her own, knew how serious near-drowning was and took him to the vet immediately. Unfortunately, despite attempted preventative treatment, he still developed pneumonia a few days later.

My friend contacted me at this point, because she was afraid he was dying and knew that I had experience with medical rescue/doing supportive care with very sick birds. I gave her the best guidance I knew, including how to get equipment to administer oxygen at home. (To be clear, he was still under the care of a vet at this time, but there was not great access to very savvy avian vets in her area.)

Then, @gamoraspeter and I decided that if he survived, we were going to adopt him. It felt meant to be for several reasons: First, we had lost Sunny, our almost 30-year-old boy, about six months prior, which left a big hole in our flock. We also already had equipment for doing breathing treatments and other medical supportive care for birds with respiratory problems, as well as a lot of experience with it. We also have a very good relationship with our avian vet and clinic, which would give Henry better access to care that he couldn't get with my friend.

At that point in time, the vet gave him significantly less than a 50% chance of survival, but he did survive.

He recovered from the worst of the pneumonia and was well enough to travel, but still had a very bad sinus infection from inhaling pool water. In mid-August, we drove over a thousand miles round trip to meet my friend in Louisiana and get Henry from her. We fell in love immediately.

Fast forward two months, many vet trips, and ten different medications: Last week, Henry was finally pronounced fully recovered!

And he's gone from a very sweet, sleepy sick baby to a (still very sweet) crazy little hellion.

May he live in chaos with us for at least the next 30 years.
