Just read someone claiming that being ok with killing someone breaking into your house is a "facist usamerican opinion".

As a victim of a home break in, where I got beaten up for the sin of dropping a plastic bag holding snacks I had just bought, where I then had to witness an aunt and her daughter crying their eyes out tied to a bed, fearing they would get raped, myself fearing the same for them after I too was tied and gagged next to them.

And also as the son of another victim of a break in, who got stabbed in the gut and almost died of blood loss half naked right in front of his infant daughter.

I have to say

Kill all home intruders, if they have committed the sin of breaking into the place most safe for you and your family, with the intention of taking everything you worked so hard to get, not to mention the lives of you and your family, you have all the right in the world to respond with deadly force, no questions asked.

Friendly reminder that is morally right to shoot at home intruders, and whoever says otherwise is a potential home intruder.

The definition of fuck around and find out is home invasion. You better come armed and armored.

I'm from a third world country with strict gun control. Higher crime rate than the USA.

I'm friends with people who were robbed, at gunpoint, in their home.

Also, how is saying everyone should have the right to use force in defense of themselves fascist, exactly? Were they one of those people who go "Oh, burglars don't want any trouble! Just give them what they want!"

As if home invadors have never just capped their victims. Or threatened to kill them. Plenty of people, around the world, wish they had the kind of self-defense freedoms Yanks enjoy.

What an ivory-tower opinion.

For the record: I don't think home invaders should be killed on sight. I think they should be held to the same standard as any other criminal.

Which means that sometimes it's appropriate to stop them by any means.

Personally, I think the only circumstances it's not okay to stop them by any means is if they're fleeing the premises.

If you're already scared them off, then obviously you can't kill them anymore. That isn't self-defence. But if they're in your home, you should be allowed any means to get them out. And unfortunately, in such a situation, it's often safer to shoot them than try to hold them at gun point to get them out. If they valued their life, they wouldn't have broke in to begin with.

This post is basically ignoring all the systemic elements regarding crimes for the favour of condemning to death people who commit crimes.

Like... Yeah sorry to burst your bubble OP or Americans but it is quite close to fascism. It's barbaric to basically all of the countries that aren't fucked by guns culture (which is most of western Europe). The fact you don't even realize it attests to the brain rot you've been under and wow are we so surprised by the evolution of the US, really? The fact you believe you "worked so hard to get everything you have" too... Like yeah bruh, as if all of your life wasn't determined by where you were born or what kind of family you got. When life doesn't go our way it's other people's fault, when it does go our way it's because we * worked so hard *, it's never about luck or systemic shit going on. Those poor people and criminals should just have made better choices and work harder!

Legitimate trauma shouldn't have a place in justifying death sentences and punitive justice actually (or anything political, really), that's why I'm extremely dismissive of it. It's a call to feelings and I frankly do not care. Otherwise I'd start killing all abusive men I've ever known (self defense amirite), become a radfem (all men deserves to die if they do something bad to me or anyone, they cease to be people) and all that. Killing and retributive justice is not the answer to prevent crimes and traumas in the long run actually. But don't worry, the large majority of people think like you and will continue to do so because we're a species who likes the killing and the hurting of what we consider "bad people" and we don't like thinking about the complexity of crime. "Kill bad people, they deserve it."

Fascism… Do you people even know what that fucking word means anymore??

In Colombia we have one of the strongest gun laws in the world, yet when I got beaten up in what was at the time my own home, all four guys had revolvers, I got one jammed in my ribs as it was tied next to my crying aunt, her face which haunts me to this day.

Regarding the socioeconomic factors, both mom and dad grew dirt poor, dad had to join the army to escape poverty, having never finished primary school, mom clawed her way up by moving away from her shitty town and working from age 15 onwards while finishing high school at night, and even so they were never rich, they reached a good enough place in life to have me and my sister, and while they were poor, neither ever stole from anyone, let alone break in, because their parents (in case of mom her grandmother because her parents were completely absent) instilled in them the importance of an honest life, and how no matter how bad things were, they have absolutely no right to take away something from someone else.

You people disgust me, always willing to justify criminals while insulting victims, people CHOOSE to steal, to break in, to kill, socioeconomic status means nothing, it’s good morals and education that mark the difference between a good person and a cunt.

Breaking and entering your home carries the same responsibilities and code of conduct as if your country was invaded by a foreign aggressor.

I'm sorry, person who has no life experiences with violence and self-defense, but if some motherfucker breaks into your home - and you have no clear idea of their maximum level of intended violence aimed towards you and your family - they get treated with the assumption they intend on doing the worst.

I remember reading that in some of Lovecraft's later letters, he had a profound change in his racism and otherwise unpleasantness. Do you know what I'm talking about? Might you know where to find those specific correspondences?

(Going to be citing letters throughout this, which can easily be found by googling Lovecraft letter to [named correspondent] [date]. Don't have time at the moment to hyperlink everything.) I wouldn't say profound, but he mellowed out. His most extreme racism shows up largely in his 1910s to 20s writings, which is when he was talking about a "Teutonic master race" of which the Anglo-Saxon was the superior breed, the genetic inferiority of the Celts, and praising the KKK. This started to diminish largely due to exposure to people. He learned he was partially Welsh, and he began a deep friendship via correspondence with Robert E. Howard, who, like many Irish-Americans of the time, had a strong connection to a fantastical image of his Celtic ancestors revived through the late Victorian imagination. His anti-Celtic statements were always something of an affectation of British Imperial attitudes rather than anything that really made sense for a turn of the century Rhode Islander, and they were the first thing to fall away. His antisemitism also shifted after his meeting with his wife of seventeen years, Sonia Greene, and friendship with Robert Bloch; apparently he would still say dumb shit but they were quick to call him out on it. In his November 8, 1934 letter writer John Vernon Shea, he expresses embarrassment on some of his older and then still lingering views and specifically asks Shea not to quote them at Bloch. Possibly the most influential figure in his social circle, however, was James Ferdinand Morton, Jr., an anarchist political writer, Baha'i convert, and NAACP member frequently who took Lovecraft to task for his racism and basically helped him see that the KKK was a terrorist organization. Lovecraft had hideous views but he was also a rather soft sort - not from an anti-racist angle, but actual violence was a thuggish act unsuited of a gentleman. This was also what was causing some of his shifts in his antisemitic statements in that 1934-37 period; he was still bigoted, but didn't like the news that coming out of Europe.

But he also never dropped his anti-Black racism, and I would recommend looking into his correspondence to Morton, particularly his March 23, 1931 letter, where he dismisses Franz Boas' well-evidenced skepticism towards the then fashionable anthropological racial divisions. He was willing to change and even deconstruct his views on everyone else, but kind of put his foot down when it came to Black people. By 1934 (and note that he died on March 15, 1937), his attitudes had largely shifted to a kind of Anglo-Saxon Cultural Supremacism mixed with his growing sympathies with non-Marxist Utopian socialism (somewhat of the Edwardian progressive H.G. Wells sort), best expressed in his November 22, 1934 letter to poet Natalie H. Wooley [Collected with his letters to Robert Bloch] and a January 18, 1931 letter to Morton . He basically started to ease up on the genetic racism (though the anti-Black racism never went away, at least not in anything recorded his writing) and pivoted to a notion that anyone could plausibly achieve an equal level of civilization as the WASP/"Nordic," but he still had a strong streak of racial/societal separatism, expressing a distrust of "cultural mongrelism" as late as January '31 [to Morton]. The one thing I would push back on is the common statement that he was unusually racist and antisemitic for his time, which really isn't true considering that his most extreme statements were also platforms of mainstream political parties in the 10s to 40s, and the pulp fiction published alongside his works were pretty much just as shitty, if not worse. It's just that he and Howard are some of the few pulp magazine writers from the period that we still read, so the cringe lingers. He was always a bigot, despite some evolution, but what's particularly interesting about him is that he was willing to maintain a social circle of people who would call him out on it. Complicated guy, but I think a lot of this is wondering what he would have become if he lived to see the 40s to 60s and kind of hoping that he would have kept changing.

The way Legolas and Arwen approach falling in love with a mortal is really, really funny to me because
Arwen: I will give up my immortality, and my chance to see my mother and father again, because I would rather die with you than live forever after you’re gone.
Legolas, building a ship: Hey Gimli have you ever heard of this little thing called breaking and entering because we’re going to do it to heaven.

TRAILER FOR PRIMITIVE WAR DROPPED!

So, to give some backdrop to the story:

It's the height of the Vietnam War, and a specialist US Army team is sent into a valley that US Intelligence has found to be the site of Soviet and Viet-Cong working together.

They go in... and find that the Soviets have opened a rift in space and time and brought dinosaurs into the 'present day' (the present day being the 60s').

It's unashamedly stupid and silly and I want to see it!

Well, damn! Didn't expect there to be a movie made out of this - but I'm all for it.

You can take the trash out of the trailer but you can't take the trash out of the trash

People like JD Vance have their place in the world

And that place is the back lot of a truckstop diner, selling crystal meth

Not in the world of politics

hey Elvis is the glass half full or half empty to you?

Woah mama it depends on whether you're filling or emptying

Endless optimism is a foolish way to look at the world, unable to see the strife and suffering. Endless pessimism will never make anyone happy, especially not you. You need to take the good and the bad, the dark and the light, the full and the empty. Hummina hummina hummina

so, if it was previously empty, and you add half water, its half full, but if it was previously full, and then you take half away, its half empty, is what your saying?

Woah mama the glass is always half full and half empty. It's what you do with the glass that determines the state it's in, literally and metaphorically. Any situation will be only what you make of it. *Wise hip thrust*
