Greetings bugs and worms!

This comic is a little different than what I usually do but I worked real hard on it—Maybe I'll make more infographic stuff in the future this ended up being fun. Hope you learned something new :)

If you are still curious and want to learn more about OCD, you can visit the International OCD Foundation's website. I also recommend this amazing TED ED video "Starving The Monster", which was my first introduction to the disorder and this video by John Green about his own experience with OCD.

The IOCDF's website can also help you find support groups, therapy, and has lots of online guides and resources as well if you or a loved one is struggling with the disorder. It is very comprehensive!

Reblog to teach your followers about OCD

(But also not reblogging doesn't make you evil, silly goose)

Oh please, please spread information about this. It's so goddamn important.

I was diagnosed with OCD in December 2021, and it was a living hell. It's nothing like the pop culture representation of it. It was, without question, the worst experience of my life. OCD is a nightmare to have.

Those feelings you have when something horrible happens? Imagine having those feelings day in and day out, because in your mind, those horrible things are being constantly thought about as a very real threat. Your mind tells you to do the compulsion, or they'll come true.

The compulsions aren't something we like doing. The comic is so right about this. You could be rearranging your room a hundred times to get it exactly right because it makes you happy, and still not have OCD. The compulsions are born out of fear, that started rational and then devolved into things that don't make sense at all.

Because I was a psychology student and I'm someone who pays close attention to my mental state, I noticed the horrifying change in my behaviour and forced my family to take me to see a psychologist within a couple of months of symptom onset.

It's been more than two years of medication and therapy, and the OCD doesn't paralyse me anymore the way it used to. Most days, I barely remember it's there, sleeping in my brain and dormant. Treatment is possible, and I'm proof of it.

This is because I saw something was wrong and got help.

But even being a psychology student, until I got the diagnosis, I didn't even consider it might be OCD. I just knew something was off.

Why didn't I think of OCD? Because of the sheer volume of misinformation that's spread about this disorder.

I don't want other OCD sufferers to not seek help simply because of this popular misunderstanding about what the disorder is. So yeah. Please go through the comic, it explains it wonderfully.

yo if youre a cis woman who considers yourself an ally to trans women please take a second to read this

stop engaging with terfs, its not helping. it has never helped. stop reblogging terf posts to poke fun at them, stop directly engaging in arguments with terfs for the sake of getting off some petty insult or telling them off, youre not proving anything and youre not going to change their minds. doing something to “piss off terfs” does not help trans women, it just frustrates terfs, who will then take their frustrations out on trans women. terfs might tell u off or insult u but ultimately they see u as a poor victim who has been Brainwashed By The Trans Rights Activists™, youre not a target, youre not the one who has to deal with their anger, we are.

if u want to help trans women do things to uplift and support trans women, if u see a trans women is being harassed on this site by terfs throw some positivity her way. dont rile up ppl who are attacking someone else just to earn radical discourse brownie points.

Anti-terf activities that can actually be helpful for cis allies to engage in:

  • If someone makes a post about “please don’t reblog from (popular artist) cause they’re a terf,” feel free to reblog it! Help spread information about who terfs are.
  • If a trans woman makes a post detailing why terf arguments are absurd nonsense, feel free to reblog it! Help spread information about why terf ideas are bullshit.
  • If you see a post like that, or a general positivity post for trans women, and there’s some terf being hateful on it, just reblog from OP! Even if someone further down in the thread “totally destroyed” the terf’s argument! Don’t give terfs a platform on your blog.
  • If you see a post from a cis lesbian or feminist blog you don’t recognize, give it a quick look before you reblog! This goes doubly true if the post talks about people in terms of “males” and “females” or the person has words like “radical”/”rad” or “female” in their url or blog title. Put in the effort to not reblog from terfs so trans women don’t have to do it for you!
  • If someone close to you turns out to be a terf, cut them off and tell them why. Don’t think you can be an ally to us and still be friends with the people who want us dead.

But like the OP said, making a big show about arguing with terfs and mocking them doesn’t actually help us at all. I know it’s easier and flashier to fight a big evil enemy, but it’s better and more important to help the trans women who’re being hurt by them and by the world we live in.

Love and support trans women before you worry about fighting terfs.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

Not to just be constantly shilling my own stuff today, but can we take a moment to once again appreciate the attention to detail @ryehickman put into making sure Nathan's disability aids were visible on the main cover?

ID: Two images side by side. The one on the left is a red book cover with the words "Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites, from International Bestselling Author, Joy Demorra, Flirting with Fangs Edition."

It depicts two male characters, one wearing a light shirt, a visible arm brace, and hearing aids. The other is wearing a dark suit and has visible fangs. They are walking side by side, their arms around each other. Both are turning to regard the female character on the right, who is wearing a purple flowing dress and is, in turn, looking over her shoulder at them in an implied bisexual parody of the "distracted boyfriend" meme.

The image on the right depicts the same image but zoomed in closer on the main character Nathan, visibly showing his shoulder brace and hearing aids. /ID.

Like, I know I'm the author, and this is my book, but as a disabled person who relies on braces to keep my joints in place, it still hits me sometimes when I open up the files to do something, and I get to see a visibly disabled character on the cover of a romance novel. And the hearing aids are just so well done??? They stand out SO much, and it would have been such an easy thing to overlook or make into a vague squiggle, but they're immediately visible, and I love that. I love that SO much.

me as a writer: Oh no I can’t write that, somebody else already has

me as a reader: hell yes give me all the fics about this one scenario. The more the merrier

This one is so hard to accept. Reblogging to knock that into my brain.

Me as a writer: I feel like I’m repeating myself, I’ve already used that theme, I’ve already written that kink, that other character uses that speech pattern so this one in another fandom can’t, I feel like I’m writing predictable things, is this different enough from that other thing I wrote, are people filling out bingo cards by my work? :sobbing:

Me as a reader: oh hell yeah this hit the spot exactly, I hope this writer has written 20 more just like it

As one friend said when I felt I was reusing a theme too much, nobody ever says, Did Agatha Christie write about murder again?

I actually laughed out loud at the last one. A very good point.

“I love this, I hope there isn’t anything else out there like it!” Said no one ever

Sometimes you just really need other people to point out the obvious to you! Thanks, guys.

I remember being in a tiny fandom and reading every story a particular writer had written in that fandom, and then every other story they had written for good measure. Probably around 30-35 stories in all.

In every single story they wrote, one of the main characters either had, acquired, or considered adopting or buying a Bedlington Terrier. Always that one type of dog.

I never got tired of it. By about story 7 I was reading along thinking ‘when is the little lamb dog going to show up?’ and it didn’t even blip my weirdness radar.

Do your thing over and over again, friend.

Russia, 1881: We’re gonna kill any Jew that doesn’t flee Russia. We’re restricting Jewish emigration to Europe, but permitting emigration to the Middle East.

Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland, Slovakia, Croatia, France, and others, 1933-1945: We’re gonna kill every Jew in Europe. Flee to the US or Palestine, or die trying.

The US, 1927-1952: Yeah sorry we’re restricting Jewish immigrants to like. 300 people per country. So good luck getting in. We recommend that Jews go to Palestine instead. Btw we are looking to take in Nazi scientists if you know any

Egypt, 1947-1950: We’re rounding up all our Jews and deporting them to Israel

Iraq, 1951-1952: We’re rounding up all our Jews and deporting them to Israel

Algeria, 1962-1965: We’re pressuring and intimidating Jews in the hopes that they’ll all leave the country and go to Israel

Egypt, 1956: We’re rounding up all our Jews and deporting them to Israel (again)

Egypt and Libya, 1967: We’re rounding up, torturing, and killing all our Jews. The ones that survive can flee to Israel

Poland, 1968: The Jews in our country are already loyal to Israel. They will face dire consequences if they don’t leave our country and go to Israel

Ethiopia, 1974-1985: We’re going to marginalize and eventually try to kill all our Jews, and the only way they can escape is by being airlifted out of the country by Israeli helicopters

The US, 2023: Why can’t the Israeli Jews just go back to where they came from? Don’t they all have dual citizenship or whatever?

Hey btw, here's a piece of life advice:

If you know what you'd have to do to solve a problem, but you just don't want to do it, your main problem isn't the problem itself. Your problem is figuring out how to get yourself to do the solution.

If your problem is not eating enough vegetables, the problem you should be solving is "how do I make vegetables stop being yucky". If your problem is not getting enough exercise, the problem you should be solving is "how do I make exercise stop sucking ass". You're not supposed to just be doing things that are awful and suck all the time forever, you're supposed to figure out how to make it stop being so awful all the time.

I used to hate wearing sunscreen because it's sticky and slimy and disgusting and it feels bad and it smells bad, so I neglected to wear it even if I needed to. Then I found one that isn't like that, and doesn't smell and feel gross. Problem solved.

There is no correct way to live that's just supposed to suck and feel bad all the time. You're allowed to figure out how to make it not suck so bad.

executive dysfunction is inherently funny because it sounds so painfully fake that it wraps back around to being a good excuse. like if i was lying about not being able to do stuff, i would at least be able to come up with something more convincing than "i have not doing stuff syndrome"

I've been trying not to call people mean names when I get into arguments so now my default when I get a lil frustrated is to say "babe" which as u might understand is not particularly conducive to customer service

Had a guy piss me off so badly yesterday I called him babygirl

For reference im a scrawny 19 year old girl weaing top much eyeliner and he was a 40 year old man in an American flag carhartt jacket. We were both so surprised the disagreement just ended right there
