When drawing from life there is always a time limit. Study your subject to decide what about it interest you most. Then proceed to draw only the features which contribute to that notion.

I used to skip this block-in stage, jumping right into the features, but it is important to get the foundation right first. It’s very easy to place the eyes when you have sockets for them. It’s much more difficult to change the shape of the head once the eyes and other features are sitting on top.
