Everything In Between — Part 2

CHAPTER ONE

summary: a pregnancy should be a happy occasion

AUs: Husband!Namjoon, Idol!BTS, pregnancy

genres: love, angst (what’s new), and sad/conflicted namjoon :(

When you’re discharged from the hospital, the morning is the gloomiest Seoul has ever been. It’s a cliché, but it reflected your internal mood as you thought about everything that had transpired the past three days.

As you stood near the doorway, waiting solemnly for the driver that Namjoon had called for you, you’re surprised to see his face when the car door opens. He’s dressed in casual attire, nothing unusual about his expression that would give off the impression that you two had gotten into a massive fight yesterday.

When you climb in, you quickly close the door as you entered as to not call any attention from the other people. The tabloids didn’t need to know anything about your pregnancy or the risks that came along with it. Heck, Namjoon just found out. It wasn’t time for the entire world to know either.

“I didn’t think you’d come,” you said, voice small.

You don’t look at him. You’re scared to face him.

“I didn’t think I’d come either,” he said as the driver began to veer out of the hospital parking lot and back to the apartment complex you both called home.

“I thought you were mad at me.” You fiddled with your dress hem nervously.

“I am mad at you,” he said point blank.

You finally turn to face him in agitation. “Then why are you here?”

“Because I love you.” Sometimes it’s really just that simple. “Because I want to be here.”

You’re a bit dry in the mouth at his response. It almost echoes word for word that night. It was months after you had left to go back to the States because you were tired of Namjoon’s endless schedule and infrequent calls. You remember it so vividly because it was the lowest point in your relationship.

It had been the twelfth consecutive day Namjoon was in the studio when he was supposed to be taking a well-deserved break from tour before the band would have to go for another six month run across the world.

“Namjoon, where are you?” you had asked into the phone with a slight tremor.

You were scared because you knew that this would be the end of the road.

You promised yourself that you would not put up with a relationship where you had moved across the world to be with Namjoon only to be ignored and put on the bottom of his priority list.

“Y/N, I’m so sorry,” the words had flown so seamlessly. Maybe it was because he had already said them dozens of times before. “Something came up at the studio. They need me here.”

“What about me?” you asked. “Am I just supposed to wait around for you? Be available when you’re ready for me?”

Namjoon’s sigh brought clarity to the fog you were feeling. “I don’t think that. I just wish you would have a hobby or a life beyond spending time with me.”

You swallowed hard.

For this man, you had moved your entire life.

For this man, you had to learn a completely new language, live in a foreign country, and without friends or family you had made do with what you had.

For this man, you had given up so much of yourself.

You had made friends at the local community center you attended. You went to an international class where many of the students were fascinated by your American status and your English accent when you spoke Korean words.

Saying goodbye to them was hard.

“You’re really going to leave without telling your boyfriend?” Yoona, the girl in your international class, asked during your farewell dinner. Funnily enough, she was a BTS super fan and little did she know you were dating the leader himself.

“Yeah,” you said with a weary voice. “I think nothing really needs to be said at this point. He doesn’t want to see me anyways. What’s the difference if I just go back home?”

Yoona nibbled on the corner of her lips. “Must be some super jerk.”

She said “super jerk” in English, making you smile.

“He’s just busy,” you said earnestly. “I think it’s better off if I don’t bother him to make this whole goodbye speech. I really don’t think he’d care much.”

“Maybe give him one last chance,” Yoona said pleadingly. She wanted you to stay, her American best friend, and you loved the idea of moving fully to Korea but not now. You wanted to be home. You wanted to mourn the lost of what could have been everything that was now nothing.

“I don’t know.” You sipped on the bitter soju she poured you. “I dont think that’s going to change anything.”

Yet you do it anyways.

You let yourself get hurt one last time.

You had stood in front of BigHit for eight hours now. A lunch date could now be reserved for dinner. Namjoon had texted you once when you arrived that he would take a little longer to meet you.

You half-wondered if this was it.

If this was how you said goodbye.

The other half of you was just plain fatigued.

“Namjoon, I think I’m going to go home,” you told him on the phone.

The words had a double meaning in a way. You felt your throat tighten as the words left your lips. You wished more than anything to see his face one last time before you left but a phone call would have to do.

There was some shuffling noise in the background. “I’m really sorry about this. How about dinner next week at Nobu? We can celebrate Jin’s birthday with everyone.”

You were already heading out of BigHit by now, the elevator couldn’t come up fast enough. “I don’t think I’ll be here for that, but tell Jin I said happy birthday.”

“What do you mean you won’t be here?” Namjoon sounded half-attentive as he shared words with a producer about adding another bass to the remix.

You wanted to tell him, maybe he would say something to make you change your mind. Maybe he’d fill you with more empty promises. Maybe you’d pretend you believed him. “It’s nothing. Get back to your work, okay? I love you.”

“I love you too, Y/N,” Namjoon said with a hint of sincerity that felt so refreshing in that moment, but that was it—the truth was that you wanted more than just a moment.

When he ended the call, you hovered over the saved picture of you two: him with his dimpled smile and you staring up at him adoringly. You let yourself go weak as you cried on the elevator ride down.

“Y/N?” Jimin’s voice jolted you out of your sadness stupor for a moment. You had reached the first floor of the private lobby, and standing there was Jimin.

“Jimin,” you breathed out shaky.

“What’s wrong? Does Namjoon-hyung know you’re here? Did he cancel on you again?” he asked, a knowing empathetic lilt to his voice. You felt pathetic knowing that Namjoon standing you up was just a fact-of-life by now.

“I just had a hard day,” you told him honestly. “It’s fine. Please don’t bring this up to Namjoon. Don’t tell him you saw me, please.”

Jimin didn’t look quite happy to withhold anything from Namjoon, but he relented when he saw how desperately you were asking him. You wanted to leave without it being a whole show with Jimin or the rest of BTS involved.

You hugged him before the two of you separate. “Goodbye, Jimin. Thank you for being so good to me.”

Jimin frowned in confusion. He seemed to sense this goodbye was more than a “see you soon” kind of farewell. He held onto your arms after you two parted from the hug. “Let me grab Namjoon down here, okay? Don’t leave, it’ll be really fast.”

You didn’t say anything, and Jimin looked anxiously at you as the elevator doors closed as if you would disappear.

You never got to see if Namjoon came down.

You were long gone by then.

You had a flight to catch.

[09:12 PM] Namjoon: Jimin said you seemed upset. What’s going on?

You decided it was best not to answer. The driver had noticed your muffled tears and handed you a tissue which you gratefully accepted.

[09:25 PM] Namjoon: Where are you? I can’t find you in the lobby.

[09:53 PM] Namjoon: Are you on your way home? Is that why you aren’t answering on the train?

You paid the cab driver and tipped him extra. It wasn’t like you’d need the won anyways.

When Namjoon called, it surprised you. You thought he’d give up trying to reach you by now. Guilt ate at you. It wasn’t right to leave like this. “Hey, what’s Jimin going on about? He said it was urgent I talked to you.” Hearing his voice again made you go weak.

“It’s nothing.” You’re surprised at how calm your voice sounded. “I just wanted to wish you the best.”

“What?” Namjoon sounded confused. “What does that mean?”

“Let’s both be happy, okay?” you asked, handing your passport and ticket to the flight officer. You shoved your luggage into the conveyor belt. “I love you.”

One last time.

One last time.

“Why are you speaking like this?” Namjoon was upset. You heard talking in the background that was hushed after Namjoon shouted back. “Come back to BigHit, I’ll send a driver to your location. Let’s talk, okay?”

“I’m sorry,” you told him. “I really think we aren’t good for each other anymore. I didn’t want to…to…talk about this over the phone, but I had to catch my flight.”

There’s a moment of silence. “What airport are you at? I’m going there now. Text me the name and terminal.”

In your mind, you wondered if this was what you dreamed it would be like to have Namjoon acting like this over you. You thought you would be happier. “I don’t regret coming here. Tell the members I’m sorry I couldn’t say goodbye personally.”

“Y/N—just tell me where you are.” You heard more noise. You  even heard doors being closed. Keys were being jangled. People were talking. “This is crazy. Where are you going? When are you coming back then?”

When you didn’t respond, Namjoon was quick to realize the situation. “I love you, don’t do this.”

You stared out the window of the airport: stars lighting up the sky. “Look up.”

“What?” he asked, sounding out of breath. “Why?”

“We will always be under the same sky, isn’t that beautiful?” You asked him feeling a wave of sorrow wash over you. “I am so happy I got the chance to love you.”

“Please tell me where you are,” Namjoon was panting. “Y/N.”

“Namjoon,” you whispered. “Don’t.”

Those was the last words the two of you exchanged for several months.

You weren’t surprised to get a mass text from the boys.

[10:02 PM] Jungkook: Noona, Hyung is really upset. Please come back. :(

[10:05 PM] Hoseok: Y/N, this isn’t like you…

[10:07 PM] Jimin: Please don’t be mad. I told Namjoon-hyung because I had a bad feeling.

[10:07 PM] Yoongi: Yah, Y/N, this isn’t how adults communicate their feelings.

[10:08 PM] Jin: Y/N, you said you would be at my birthday!

[10:10 PM] Namjoon: This can’t be the end…

You couldn’t believe half a year had passed.

Another BTS World Tour had come and gone, and you weren’t sure what you had expected when everything ended between you and Namjoon. You didn’t expect him to chase you down at the airport or find you at home, but you were fine with that.

Life wasn’t a movie.

“I have a blind date for you,” your friend, Asuna, gushed after work one day. You were the new assistant museum curator after four months of working tirelessly half to distract yourself from the break up and half because you loved it.

“I’m not really looking for anything right now.”

You wondered if it was this hard to get over someone.

“Please, for me? I really think it’ll help you get out of this dating funk. Plus, he’s totally your type: tall, handsome, and intelligent.” She promised.

You frowned. “I’m not sure.”

“I’ll call you half an hour in, if you hate it or him, then just say family emergency and leave!” Asuna whined.

When you relented, it was a mad dash to get you ready for the date who was supposedly going to meet you tonight. Talk about short notice.

To be honest, getting your hair done, nails manicured, and buying a new dress felt good. You got a new promotion so why not treat yourself?

The restaurant was strangely empty however. “Am I at the right place?” you texted Asuna only to be met with a thumbs up. She send a winky face followed by: “Thank me later.”

You pulled at your dress as you sat at the table. You had come early to calm your nerves, and you decided to go to the bathroom the fresh up.

Your first date in forever. It would be fine, you assured yourself. You would walk in there poised and dignified.

Of course, that was the plan until you walked back to a table with Kim Namjoon sitting across. And roses. A lot of roses.

“What…?” You were star-struck. “What? You…?”

“That wasn’t the end,” he said plainly. “I gave you a heads up remember?”

You were frozen in place as you stared at him. He looked good. You knew he looked good because you were still watching his cams on YouTube. “Why are you here?”

That’s the question. That’s your question.

“Why?” he parroted as he stood up. If you weren’t going to go to him, he would go to you—literally it seemed. “Because I love you. Because I want to be here.”

“No,” you said firmly after getting your head back on straight. “I…”

“I am taking a break,” he replied. “We all are actually. We collectively told BigHit we needed a break after our world tour to breathe, to live, and, for me, to find you.”

“Still?” you can’t hide it: you’re over the moon.

“Still.”

That had been ages ago.

Now, you and Namjoon were married and had a child on the way.

After that, the dynamic between the two of you had been so different in the best way. Namjoon was still busy, but you became his priority. It took some time and adjustment. There were still tears, still fights, but you didn’t leave and he didn’t let you feel like you had to.

Even now.

“I’m sorry I lied to you,” you told him. “I was selfish.”

Namjoon took your hand into his own. “I was selfish too. I was asking you to give up our baby when I know how much you love him or her.”

You felt your heart lift. He finally didn’t refer to the baby as “it” like he had done that day. It was “our” and that was how it should have been for both your parts.

“What do you want to do?” he asked.

You know his answer is still the same.

“I want to go through with this.” Just like yours was still the same.

He took your trembling hand into his own. Your fingers gripped around his fingers tightly, not wanting to let go of this warmth you were now so familiar with. You could never get enough of him. You were greedy for his touch, his love, and more than anything, his heart.

“Okay,” he said. He squeezed back. “Okay.”

If only the both of you had know exactly what would be in store in the future.

“Are we sure that none of our men had anything to do with the shooting?” Kim Sang-hoon asked, for what felt like the 100th time in the 30 short minutes that Jimin had been called into a meeting in Namjoon’s office, along with the other members of the security detail.

“Everyone has been vetted, they’re clean,” Jimin assured him.

“How can you be so sure?” Sang-hoon pressed and Jimin wanted to claw his own fucking eyes out in annoyance.

Namjoon x Reader; Jimin x Reader

Genre: Angst, fluff, President!Namjoon, Head of Security!Jimin

Warnings: (Reluctant) open relationship, mentions of cheating, oral sex, technically public oral because someone else comes in the room lol

Three weeks later, things around the Blue House had gone back to being about as normal as it was possible for them to. You and Namjoon were still keeping to the agreement and faking the persona of a happily married couple, but the two of you definitely were not on speaking terms.

In fact, you had barely been seeing Namjoon lately, as the multiple things going on in your country had taken him away and made him focus on his responsibilities as President. You couldn’t lie and say that you weren’t happy that he was busier these days, because you were. Ever since you’d caught him with Hyejin again, you could barley stand being in the same vicinity as the man if you didn’t have to be. Luckily though, you had Jimin to keep you company.

To all my black followers and friends, stay safe.

Also, I would like to add that black lives have always mattered, will always matter.

It’s awful that we even have to say that because it should be a given. However, we need to say it loud and clear for the racists.

We cannot be silent.
