Hello loves, My name is Upile Chisala and I have been accepted to study for an MSc in African Studies at the University of Oxford starting October 2016. This is truly a dream come true but unfortunately there is the financial barrier.
I am a Malawian poet and a human rights advocate who just doesn’t have the money to make this happen on my own. As a storyteller my purpose in life is to bring stories from the margins into the light and I have done so in my writings as well as in my research work. This degree will allow me to do just that and to serve Malawian people by combining my love for the arts and my love for humanity.
I was born and raised in Malawi and am the last of 5 children. Growing up my parents worked to give us all an education and taught us to be creative and persistent in our paths to achieving our dreams. I have no quit in me. At 20 I graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in Sociology, a supplementary major in Law & Society, minors in Women’s Studies and Contemporary Social Studies. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Throughout college I worked, volunteered and interned.
I have poems upon poems encouraging black girls to dream, I am asking that you help support this black girl’s dream.
