Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (Coming Early 2022): Speculation time!
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is the Borderlands Spin-off that was officially announced on June 10th, at the Summer Game Fest.
- What is so interesting about this to me is that everyone has been pretty adamantly stating that this is not a Borderlands game. It’s obviously starring Tiny Tina (circa Borderlands 2 by her look) and drawing inspiration from the Borderlands 2 DLC, Tiny Tina’s Attack on Dragon Keep. So what is this game?
- Comments made by developers or voice actors during the brief interviews seem to insinuate that we will be able to create and customize our own unique character (a big change between Wonderlands and Borderlands).
- There is definitely going to be looting and shooting… but now we have spellcasting and some melee weapons. To what extent we do not know.
- Tina has been named our “Bunker Master” by her very own Voice Actor, Ashley Burch. So a “not-Borderlands” game taking place inside the head of a Borderlands character during what is likely a Bunkers and Badasses campaign.
- Might we add that the individual seen in the trailer seems to share some characteristics with Clay from Borderlands 3? The timeline of events would insinuate that Tina met (or at least knew of) Clay prior to the events of Borderlands 3… that is of course if we are assuming that Tina is drawing from people and places she knew to run her campaign (like we saw with Salvador and the dwarves, Maya and the fairies, etc.).
- Again, we do not know how heavily this game will play into the actual lore of the Borderlands universe. If anything, I could see a “post-BL2 / pre-BL3″ intro cutscene, gameplay in the Wonderlands, and a “post-BL2 / pre-BL3″ ending cutscene (Think of the Borderlands The Pre-Sequel formula)
- What can we expect? What do we want to see? I’m personally excited for a Borderlands-style, looter-shooter, high-fantasy epic tale and hope that we see the utilization of unique gameplay and gameplay mechanics to make this new game feel unlike anything in the Borderlands franchise. I would love to see spell casting, swords and axes and other melee weapons, alignments / proficiency traits, augments, maybe smithing / crafting? The possibilities are endless and I cannot wait for more information.
