“Kurt Cobain’s suicide note was forged!” FALSE
“The note found at the scene by the police was immediately labeled as a ‘suicide note’. The police report states that it was ‘apparently written by Cobain to his wife and daughter, explaining why he had killed himself’. But this note was not addressed to Kurt’s wife and daughter and it says nothing about ‘killing himself!’. This note was clearly written to Cobain’s fans telling them that he was quitting the music business. There was only a short footnote to Courtney and Frances and the handwriting contained in those lines has been questioned by several handwriting experts.” - Tom Grant
On April 8, 1994 (the day that Kurt Cobain’s body was found), the suicide note found at the scene was sent to Janis J Parker (a forensic document examiner and handwriting expert). Parker spent two weeks analyzing the sheet of paper. On April 22, 1994, Parker concluded that the entire note was written by Cobain’s hand.
Janis J Parker is the only forensic document examiner (handwriting expert) that has examined the exact note found at the scene.
What about Tom Grant’s “handwriting experts”?
Well, Tom Grant’s “handwriting experts”, who only examined a faxed copy of the note, may not be as credible as he makes them out to be. What kind of handwriting expert “changes their mind”?
All other handwriting experts that have been sent a copy of the note have either concluded that the writing was all Cobain’s, or stated that “the copies are not good enough to make any firm pronouncement”.
Tom Grant has also questioned the meaning of the note, claiming that it was a retirement note to Kurt’s fans announcing that he was leaving the music business. The following excerpt does not match the personality of a rational person who just wants to leave a job:
“Jesus man! Why don’t you just enjoy it? I don’t know. I have a goddess of a wife who sweats ambition and empathy and a daughter who reminds me too much of what I used to be. Full of love and joy kissing every person she meets because everyone is good and will do her no harm. And that terrifies me to the point to where I can barely function. I can’t stand the thought of Frances becoming the miserable self-destructive, death rocker that I’ve become. I have it good, very good, and I’m grateful, but since the age of seven I’ve become hateful towards all humans in general. Only because it seems so easy for people to get along, and have empathy. Empathy! Only because I love and feel for people too much I guess“.
How would Kurt Cobain distribute this so called “retirement note”? How would Kurt’s fans know who Kurt’s childhood imaginary friend “Boddah” is? Would it really be necessary for the “murderer” to forge a suicide note, when according to a variety of Kurt’s friends, everyone was expecting an overdose?
