They had only just crossed the threshold into Kokiri forest, but it felt as if they had been travelling for years! At least they didn’t have to deal with the intense heat of the desert sun… Still the forest seemed dark and sprawling….

Muna waved off Salami’s protests, the Deku seemed very inviting! “Umm… hello, we’re not really looking to buy anything, we just wanted to know if you knew of a ‘Fado’ and where we could find her?”

Hmph, rude.

“H-hey! Whoa… just a —” Muna jumped back to avoid one of the various deku nuts launched her way. That shield sure would be a good option right about now… The gerudo let out a huff, “hmph well if I did have that much money I wouldn’t be giving it to one as rude as you!”

Munoora clamped her mouth shut almost immediately. Where had that come from? She hurried back to her travelling companion. “Come on Salami, maybe we should check out this village the Deku mentioned?”

Well, the only “village” in the woods I know is the Kokiri’s home so, yeah. Let’s try going there.

I told you Deku Scrubs were mean. Heh, heh, heh… ow. My face. Hm…

Muna was immediately transfixed by the fairy floating above them. Her eyes monitored its graceful movements from behind her mask. “Oh... um yes the journey here wasn’t an easy one! My name is Munoora and I’m ... not entirely sure why I smell like a fox...”

She nudged Salami, “the happy mask salesman has an important message for you ... urm this is his PR representative”

Father?!

Salami, my dear boy, have you lost it!? Get away from that thing, it’s twice your size! Let one of the older patrons take care of it.

No need to be frightened, my good sir! I’ve only come to visit my son’s place of work!

Your son? Ho, ho ho ho! What kind of a joke is this?

Joke? This is no joke! It might not look it, but Salami is my youngest son!

I look like this because of a curse. You may ask the boy himself if you don’t believe me!

Mr. Mask Salesman, did you really think my pale skin and black fingers were normal?

… You did.

It’s a great look on you though. Really, it is!  Ehm–but your father…not so…Ah but!! He seems to be getting along just fine. Look at him, out and about like this, very good! I appreciate your excellent taste in hats, Mr. …Salami’s…Dad..?

Mr. Pastrami, at your service! You must be the Happy Mask Salesman, yes? I’ve heard many good things of your masks! My hat? Why thank you!

Wait, wait, wait. Ho ho ho, wait. Salami… Your full name is…

Salami Pastrami???

“Ok, you're right,” Muna grumbled as she tried to avoid the long range seeds that were still being spat in their direction. Following the brief direction that the scrub had given them, it wasn’t long before they came upon the Kokiri’s village. They were directed to the one villager they had been seeking. “Fado? We bring important information you must hear!”

The poe appeared before the woman, flower in hand and extended waiting for her to take it. It had been about to say it was from a shy stranger, but remembered that it had asked the ghost to remain silent. Why? It had no clue.

Avatar

A sudden black mass appeared before her with no prior warning what so ever. The effect was frightening to say the least! If there was one thing Munoora hated most it was being startled.

Her carving tools toppled to the floor along with the mask she had been hard at work on. She might have screamed, but with all the common she wasn’t sure.

Having covered her face with her hands in her fright, Muna opened one of her eyes and peeked out though the gaps her fingers left.

"A-a flower… F-for me?" She stammered.

V e r y hesitantly she reached out with one hand to take the offered gift. It would be rude not to, right?

Avatar

It was clear she wasn’t going to get any closer to “Little Flower”. Munoora was curious, not heartless, she wasn’t about to snatch the flower away just to sate her curiosity. “It is very pretty! Thank you again for your delivery. Would you let me know if you see this mysterious stranger around?”

The poe relaxed when she didn’t make a grab for its flower. It was on edge because of all the strangers that had been questioning it lately. “This One could bring the stranger to you if they ever appear again!”

By "bring the stranger to you" Muna assumed this would be under the stranger's free will, so she was happy. "No one has umm... sent me flowers before, it would be nice to meet the person. Thank you again Poe, I hope we meet again!"

Hah! What are the odds of that weird Masque Merchant having an undead inventory manager like how the Mask Shoppe has that poe? It'd definitely expose them of being copy-cats if they suddenly hired a gibdo or something!

Muna tapped her lip thoughtfully with the end of a carving tool. "He did seem to have quite the story... I'm not about to call him a liar buuut, it is rather a rather strange coincidence. News about a poe's employment here is sure to spread, so I will keep my eye out for him!"

The mask maker considered her own flower before examining the one worn by the poe. How was it still blooming anyway? Some sort of magic, she supposed, stranger things had happened… “It still blooms! C-could I see it? I won’t hurt uhh, Little Flower…” Perhaps she could put to rest the rumours about this creature being a false poe depending on its answer?

It had to stop itself from reaching for the flower again. “You want to see Little Flower? Uh… Its very fragile so This One doesn’t like people touching it…” The poe backed out of reach and fidgeted. “But you can look at it, if you want.”

I’m not sure… I have a bad feeling about this. We shouldn’t have left the shoppe, Mu-Mu…

Muna considered Salami’s words. She would have been more concerned without her mask of course, but right now things seemed to be going well and the forest was quite beautiful. “He wouldn’t have sent us if he didn’t think we could make it! Come on I think I see a Deku scrub, lets ask it how much farther!”

"Ah! But where are my manners." The Masque Merchant bowed "I am..." He blinked and rubbed his chin "What was my name again? Hm. The missus will be mad if she finds out I forgot again... Oh! Err, well my name isn't very important. Well I suppose it is. Was. At least back in our homeland. I was wealthy, you know! Ah, but I bought this masque shoppe to appease my wife. She absolutely loves making masks."

The mask maker pursed her lips to avoid giggling at the strange little man. But really, who forgets their own name? “Oh? Can I um— ask where you come from?” She might as well attempt small talk, she wasn’t really that good at it though…

“Perhaps you should bring her when you visit again? I’d like to uh… meet a fellow mask maker…”

“That all sounds very… scary! I’m glad you both were able to escape. I don’t know much about Termina, but I hope the moon didn’t fall on it, that would be terrible… A-a pirate!” Muna suddenly regretted announcing her desire to meet the woman. “

“I-I see…”  Muna managed, the similarities between the two businesses didn’t seem as striking. But she wondered… was any of what he said true? After all, he couldn’t even remember his own name. “Well umm… it was nice to meet you Mr. … other Mask Salesman… Maybe, if I work up the nerve, I might come visit…” The chance was small, but her curiosity had been piqued.

The mention of impending doom was not lost on her. The appearance of the king of evil had been frightening, but his plans were always thwarted somehow, weren’t they? There was still that task that Keat had given her and Salami to complete… Munoora attempted a parting smile, “I-I’m sure it will… work out”.

There seems to be many of us! I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought something was up! Another piece of evidence to consider: I saw the "poe" and a sage together. They had talked for a while and eventually the sage played the Song of Healing. The "poe" went from innocent to enraged! You could see from its posture how angry it had gotten. It became hostile and snapped at the sage when he questioned it! Any other poe wouldnt have reacted that way! Its definitely not what it seems to be!!

Muna wasn’t sure how many people she was dealing with at this point… better to not question it. The more important question was, how did these people manage to follow a poe anyway? She couldn’t very well go on making excuses for a poe… let alone the only one she had met. “Thank you… for all of your, uhh- information. I’ll be sure to remember it. For now… is there anything I can help you with a-around the shoppe?”

Muna giggled, “it’s really alright, I’ll be more prepared next time… uh- that is, if there is a next time”. She considered the ghostly poe with its own little flower. How interesting, didn’t they only travel with lanterns? She had heard that once. Her mind wandered to recent warnings of the poe in question.

It had forgotten things about being alive? The thought caused her to shiver, “H-how… uh, how long have you been erm… dead? I see you have a flower yourself, d-did a stranger give that to you too?”

“This One doesn’t remember when it died. All it knows is that it died a very long time ago.” The poe adjusted the flower out of habit to ensure it was still firmly attached to its hood. Where had it said it had gotten the flower from again? “No stranger gave This One Little Flower. It found it in one of the Deku Palace gardens a long time ago.”

The mask maker considered her own flower before examining the one worn by the poe. How was it still blooming anyway? When someone else asked what it was hiding & reached for its flower, the "poe" protected the flower & didnt deny their claims! Instead it said that they should stop before they cause trouble! If it really was innocent it wouldnt have freaked out & threatened them! Think about it, poes don't simply go wandering! They're tied to where they died!! When we wrote it a letter, its whole personality change & it got all serious. Its not a real poe! Ask it sometime & watch its reaction closely!

Muna tapped her bottom lip thoughtfully, “Hmm it sounds like this flower is of some importance to the poe. Umm, I would have been upset if someone tried to take something of mine… I-I would consider it rude, wouldn’t you?

“Tied to where they died? Well that is interesting… W-wait, you said we, how many of you are so suspicious of this poe?” All this talk of the poe being something sinister was making her curious to see if their was any basis for such speculation…
