So how old Saiou is

I am going to try and explain what we know of Saiou’s age, just so it’s somewhere. And no, we don’t have any official information on that matter, all we have are hints from the anime.

In the sub, the only time someone refers to Saiou’s age is here:

(fansub from @kaiowut99 )

Where Chronos notice he’s young for a manager upon meeting him. It’s not so much the manager part that matters than that Saiou is visibly young. So we know that, in-universe, Saiou does not look like and adult.

Following that aspect, we can notice that in season 4 he looks significantly different.

Meaning that he is, indeed, at the end of his growth. The last thing we know is that, 10 years before, when he met Edo, he was still a child or teenager (no there’s no way to tell more precisely based on visuals).

So, given all that, we can give an age range: something around late teenagehood - early 20s. 17-24 maybe. Pretty much the same range as Ryo or Fubuki. You could go for the upper limit or even a bit higher by giving an explaination to the growth delay (transition, effect of the light...) though there is none in-canon.

Now, all this is in the sub. The dub change things a little. (And I don’t have screenshots for the dub because I don’t have access to an english dub with subs).

Chronos’ comment is removed. Season 4 doesn’t exist. Instead, we have Chronos commenting in ep 73 “he’s a bit older than our average freshman” which I take as meaning he does look like an adult in this universe.

Finally, while we do have the flashback up there (where Saiou talk about his premonition), we don’t have the ones from the graveyard. So this one could be anytime after. Still, Saiou was still a child or teenager when Edo was a kid. So he could be pretty much anywhere in his 20s, likely between 23-27.

So how old is Saiou? It entirely depends on what canon you want to follow. If you’re more into the sub canon, he’s a late teen or very young adult. If you’re into dub canon, he’s a young adult.

And if you’re wondering how that’s possible with how he looks, the truth is he only looks old because of his terrible health. Once he’s not looking like a walking corpse, he does look younger (and very cute).

Bohman is a good character you guys are just mean

Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains is one of the better received spinoff series. Though, like any of the Yu-Gi-Oh spinoffs it's not without its faults. Usually I'm the first to admit the flaws in my favorite silly card game shows, even while I myself take them way too seriously. However, there's one common criticism I can't bring myself to agree with.

That is calling the main antagonist of the second season Bohman "boring" or "badly written." I've noticed fans unfairly blame Bohman for season 2's writing flaws.

Forget for a moment about whether or not you find Bohman's stoic attitude interesting or likable. If you look at characters not as people, but as narrative tools the author uses to say something about the story's themes then Bohman has a lot to say about VRAINS cyberpunk themes.

I really want to properly write about transmasc cecil and all the feelings he holds for people around him someday, but right now I just can't stop thinking about how he'd view Kain. The thin limit between "desire" and "jealousy". A teenage boy/young man who can't stop looking at his best friend and he doesn't know if its because he wants him or wants to be him. Cecil cutting his hair incredibly shoer while staring at Kain who can grow them long and only look more masculine. And who is so confident and proud while Cecil can't even look at himself in a mirror and hides himself under a thick armor.

It works so well in reverse too. Kain's resentment coming from dysphoria and paranoia that maybe his friends don't really believe he's a man (and maybe that's why Rosa would never be interested in him).

Yu-Gi-Oh GX Season 2 - The Fool's Journey

This is an analysis of Yu Gi Oh Gx's season 2's use of Tarot, in regerence to the Fool's Journey, specifically in regards to our proverbial fool and favorite idiot Judai Yuki, and every other Tarot card referenced in this season. Of course, this requires coming through every season 2 episode to look at each individual card Saiou pulled from the deck or referenced so pardon me this is going to be a long one.

FFIV liveblog: okay. misconception. i thought the paladin role was the big hot shot deal within mysidia with regards to the legend but it's the sword that kluya gives cecil that really shocks the elder. okay. daddy set up giving the sword to cecil one day in the far future, after hearing the mysidia legend? did kluya give the prophecy? have an inkling of what was going to happen? someone would need it someday?

theoretically could a paladin exist without the sword? doesn't seem like it - it's what changes cecil from dark knight. fun ideas! to me anyway, because this is my hyperfocus! is paladinny-ness, which the ffiv world knows about but hasn't ever seen, about just receiving the light, being "chosen," or is it about redemption, choosing your own en-lightening? aside from cecil's situation (a bit of cheeky spiritual nepotism), if someone else could be a paladin, can they be someone who hasn't been a dark knight/spiritually ill-defined official Bad Guy? or is that redemption a key definition of "paladin?"

see, it doesn't seem important (and it really isn't) but the christian reading of FFIV would necessarily lean towards redemption being in the definition - but it also breaks down cecil's parallel as the christ-figure, because he's the sinner.

I think the missing link is that ffiv isn't so much stemmed in Christianity as much as it is in chivalric romance, matter of Britain, Arthurian legends and the such. Christianity and its value system of course plays a huge role in this mythos but in a specific way, for example with a strong inter-webbing with celtic traditions.

In that scope, the importance of the sword as a proof of value makes sense: matter of Britain are filled with legendary blades (Excalibur, durendale...) who are proof of their wielder's worth. Acquiring the blade isn't so much a matter of redemption as much as proving yourself worthy. The knights, no matter if they were always righteous or sinners, need to accomplish trials to be granted a holy status. Resisting temptation, defeating a particular foe, remaining faithful... actually this reminds me even more Cecil's actual trial, where he is rewarded by either a paladin or a dark knight sword to recognize his worth (or lack thereof).

It's not about sins, it's about worthiness.

And Cecil is closer to Arthur than any saint nor christ. Becoming a paladin corresponds to Arthur raising Excalibur as proof that he is both the rightful heir to Uther Pendragon (Cecil being recognized by Kluya) and a valiant, holy knight (Cecil facing his dark knight self).

I know there's a lot more to say about matter of Britain and FFIV but I'd need to go back to my research so it'll take a little while.

Last Line Challenge

Rules - In a new post, show the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or however many as you like.)

Thank you @wordlesslyjenneh for the tag, the timing was just right i only continuer art and writing yesterday (so you get both).

The man collapsed right before her, holding his mouth. Blood was already pooling between his fingers. His comrades stared at Cecil for less than a second before unleashing their rage at him. Not sending the first shot was all they needed for an excuse.

From whatever the last part of the vampire AU is named, I forgot.

Which is also Cecil but in a very different context.

As for the tag: @loganelfreeces @st-highwind @estinininininen and if anyone else want to do this, i'd be happy to pretend you were tagged all along.

More Saiou eps rewatching (early tournament arc) and now i feel very strongly about this little time (which was what, one or two weeks?) where Saiou just spent all of his time sitting all alone in a room talking to himself and not going outside even once. I strongly believe the Light had no direct influence on his health beside numbing sensations, he really went to the hospital for a year because he like. didn't eat nor sleep for too long. After the light took full control his body could have just collapsed at any point.
