MIMATO WEEK 2023 (DAY 5 & 6)
Everything’s Coming Up Roses #2
Note: Posting a continuation of my Regency Era AU from last year for the prompts "moving in together" and "marriage proposal", neither of which are related to the plot of the chapter at all 🤫 In this AU I decided to use made up English last names for the characters since the setting requires it, so I hope you don’t mind the oddness of that.

Knowing that he would occasionally get the chance to go back home during his retreat at Sunnyhill Manor, Matt’s luggage had not consisted of much, but the same could not be said for Mimi. When they stood at the entrance loading the trunks into the carriage Matt and Tai watched with mouths hanging open as the servants attempted to fit everything to the best of their capabilities.
“Maybe you ought to leave a few things behind,” Sora said with a sheepish smile, her one hand resting around Mimi’s shoulders as they watched two maids attempt to fit a few circular boxes through a window of the carriage.
“I most definitely will not. It could lead to a major mismatch of my outfits if even one little thing was missing.” Mimi responded with a frown, confused that her friend would even bother to suggest something like this.
“I don’t see how you will be able to sit in there with all the-” Tai commented, stopping mid sentence to wave his hands haphazardly as he gestured at the state of Mimi’s carriage. “Unless of course, you don’t have a problem riding with Matt.”
At his words, Mimi blew up her cheeks in a pout and stomped down the entrance steps to inspect her carriage.
“You just had to say that,” Sora said as she moved closer to her husband and smacked his arm lightly.
“Look at the state of the thing!” Tai argued back even as he linked his arms with her.
Matt held back an eye roll and turned his attention towards Mimi, who was busy peeping into her carriage from every direction, hoping to find enough space for her petite frame to fit inside with all the hefty trunks. Somehow, the sight of her ticked him off. Maybe it was because of the alcohol he had consumed last night still running through his veins or the fact that he hadn’t gotten enough rest in the morning to be truly ready for the difficult day ahead, but he no longer felt like putting himself down to make her comfortable. Especially since she had had no problem avoiding him the previous night as she spent every minute stuck to the Doctor.
He had done her a favour by inviting her to his home, the least she could do was tolerate being in the same carriage as him for a few meagre hours.
“I don’t have time for this,” Matt muttered under his breath and thundered down the stone steps swiftly towards where his own carriage stood parked.
“Mimi, come on, get in his carriage or you’ll be left behind.”
Sora’s voice floated in his ears as he spoke with the driver about the route to take and checked the condition of the horses. From the corner of his eye, he saw that Sora had managed to pry Mimi away from her packed-to-the-brim carriage and was now coaxing her to sit inside the other one. He attempted to drag out the conversation with the driver till he could see that Mimi was settled in. When Matt finally moved forward to take a seat inside, he felt a familiar tap on his shoulder.
“I’ll see you in a few weeks.” Tai smiled at him when he turned around so he nodded silently in acknowledgement.
Before Matt could turn back, however, Tai suddenly leaned in closer and whispered in his ear.
“You always say I know you better than anyone, so have faith in my judgement alright?”
When Tai stepped back the smile on his face was almost negligible but the satisfied glint in his eyes was hard to miss. Matt wanted to call after him and ask him what he meant by that but his friend had already begun to climb the steps back into his house, his arms draped around his wife’s waist as he said something to her and both of them laughed loudly as the doors opened to them welcome them in. Only Sora turned around once to wave at Mimi and give him a courteous bow before the couple disappeared out of sight.
