Garrett took the plant from her, hands already becoming sweaty from the nerves he felt from just holding it. “Oh. I actually just ate but I guess we could do something else. I’m not busy right now.” He set the plant on a table near the window. “How often should I water it and how much?”
imageimage
“Oh... yeah sure. I can just grab a granola bar or something on the way. What did you wanna do?” She moved past him to shift the plant a little further from the window. “Just keep the soil wet if you can. Not like soaking, but damp. It’s pretty self sufficient. And partial shade will keep the flowers nice. They might droop a little because really they shouldn’t start blooming until end of summer, but if they need a pick me up, or you over water them or anything, just let me know and I’ll give them some love. They should be pretty hard to mess up though, the more I grow the more resilient they seem to get.”

“Oh, I didn’t know you were going,” he lied. Garrett rubbed the back of his neck. When she presented the flower Garrett was genuinely shocked. He hadn’t expected a gift let alone one that he could potentially kill. “Oh! Um, thank you,” he said to her. He couldn’t help but feel guilty though. “Honorine Jobert,” he repeated. “I love it.” He smiled at her.

“Really?” She let out a sigh of relief. “Oh, I’m glad. That you like it, I mean.” She handed the jar over to him. “I was wondering if you wanted to go out - dinner or something? If you’re not busy.”

“Hey,” Summer murmered as the door opened to reveal his face. “I, um, missed you at the Valentine’s Day party. I looked around for you.” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, smiling. “I have something for you. Not.. like a Valentine’s Day present, because that’s kind of lame. But, I was thinking about what you said, about the powers and stuff. I grew you a flower. Um,” she held out a glass dome with a few white flowers blooming inside. “They’re called Honorine Jobert... and they, they bloom in late summer but they flourish in the fall. And I just think they’re really beautiful, and it’s not gonna die... I mean I’m pretty sure it won’t, I’m not sure about this whole magic thing, but I think I did it right. And it’s for you.”

Garrett shrugged. “I don’t know. Talk about your art or your flowers or something. How’s that going?”
imageimage
“Well, I got a new sunflower and I named her Meredith. It’s not her season, obviously, but... well you know, magic. And art is going well, inspiration is striking a little bit better now that daylight savings is working in my favor.”

“Probably not, but I don’t really care,” he told her. “Nope. Nothing to talk about. Do you need to talk about something?”

Summer took a small sip of her own drink, setting it down on the bar. “Okay. Well... not that I’m aware of, but if you have a topic of conversation you’d like me to discuss on I’d be happy to hear it.”

“Well, it’s Saturday night so I say fuck it. Whatever. I’m stressed and decided forgetting my problems tonight,” Garrett said to the person standing next to him in the bar. He had a lot on his mind and things that needed to be addressed but didn’t want to. “I just plan on getting shitfaced, in all honesty.”
imageimage
Summer bit her lip, eyebrows furrowing slightly. “I feel like it’s usually you saying this to me, but are you sure getting shitfaced is the best coping mechanism? Also do you... need to talk?”

“It’s not so bad. It’s nothing compared to where I’m from,” Elsa said with a bittersweet smile. “The winters there could get so cold, I swear the glass would shatter if you shut a window too quickly.” But then again, the cold rarely had much of an effect on her, so what did she know.
imageimage
“I don’t know if you’ve watched those commercials, but not so bad is not the same as good.” Summer shuddered. “No offense, but I’m glad that I’m not from wherever you are.”

“Just invest in a good quality heater and only leave your house if you absolutely have to.  Have groceries delivered or food delivered if you don’t cook.  That’s my method of avoiding the cold winter,” Georgette replied shrugging at the question.  “Because despite the cold New York is still 100 times better than Australia.  Nowhere can compete with New York.”

Summer wished she could some how explain the fact that her body literally felt like it was coming undone in this kind of weather, but she’d have to settle for people thinking that space heaters were enough. “Oh trust me, I basically bought Macy’s out of space heaters.” She sighed. “Well, Australia’s pretty great, but I unfortunately feel like New York won’t let go of me.”

“Legit I’m gonna freeze my ass off. Remind me why I don’t just move back to Australia? It’s so fucking cold here.”

Pushing a few hairs from her face Lyria looked around the coffee shops grounds like hawk for it’s next prey. “Oh come on..” She said softly to herself. Moving down to all fours she caught glimpse of the beloved lyric journal she had. “Bingo!” She said to herself as she weaved and crawled her way to it. Just to have a foot land right in the middle of it. Looking up she groaned, tapping the others leg. “Excuse me.. hi.. um.. I kinda need this , please.”

Summer looked down, surprised to see the girl on her hands and knees. “Oh, sorry.” She picked up her foot, gently, bending over to help the girl out. “Hope it’s not ruined or anything.”

Garrett had seen the blog post but he hadn’t really paid much mind to it. He knew his friend group could be…complicated. But Summer wasn’t in love with two other people, right? “Yeah, but once you get too drunk you’ll just complain even more than you’re hungry.”
imageimage
“Ah, you know me too well. And yet...” She tilted the cup to her lips, downing the rest of her drink. “Another?” She held the cup out towards him. “Because you love me?”

“Are you enjoying yourself?” Garrett asked when he returned to his girlfriend, two drinks in his hand. He handed one to Summer and took a sip out of his own. “Can we get something to eat after this? I’m starving.”
imageimage
Summer smiled at him, taking the drink, grateful he hadn’t brought up that stupid blog post yet. “Absolutely, there’s nothing good to eat here. I’ll just drink until I don’t remember I’m hungry.”

“You’re not being the slight bit convincing, but I’ll stop pressing the issue.” She stated with a soft sigh. They were a pretty twisted , confusing bunch.

Summer sighed. “As if our friendship group wasn’t confusing already, now I’m supposed to, what, analyze my feelings?” She looked at January, speaking to her as a best friend for the first time in longer than she could remember. “You know I haven’t even told Garrett that I love him? Why? He says it to me all the time. Why can’t I say it back?”
